Remy felt as if he had just taken a sledgehammer to the side of his head. The words echoed in his mind over and over again, “. . .don’t know if I’m coming back. . . “

Ayla would feel him tense up. Remy still held her tight, but pulled back, searching her eyes for some explanation. “What? . . . Why?. . . I don’ understan’? Why would you no’ come back? Dis is you’ place, beside me. . . Maybe you jus’ need some down time.”

“I spent three year in a coma, Remy, and I’ve spent most of life away from home. My parents are dear to me and that is where my son is. I need this time with them.”

The pit in his stomach was growing larger by the second as fought back the tears that would sure to come. “I’ll put in an order for a temporary counselor until you come back.”

She just sighed.

He was running out of ideas and options. “Cher, please. . . we’ll come up wit another idea. We’ll make somethine work.”

“Remy…”

“Ayla, I lost you once and a miracle brought you back to me. . . I don’ wanna leave it up to chance to bring you back again.”

He stood up straight as he came to a final solution. “I will give up my comis_SHON and retire from Starfleet. My pension can take care of us and you’ father until. . . when dat runs out, we can become pirates, like we dreamed, no?”

Boudreaux (CO)

“I’ve no want for money.” She moved closer and placed a hand on his cheek, gazing deeply into his eyes. “I’ll compromise. Give me six months to see what is what. I promise not to make any permanent decisions until then, okay?”

“The other side of this is the mental block that K’Mar put into my mind to help with my PTSD. It’s working, but there’s some more healing to be done and I can do that there without the rest of the symptoms taking over.”

At this point, Remy was willing to take what he could get. He knew Ayla had a stubborn streak and once her mind was made up. . . “Six months, ” he sighed.

He forced a smile even though there was no joy behind it. “I was wit’out you for tree years, six months should be a cake walk, no?”

“I canno’ preten’ to like dis decision, bu’ I understand why you ‘ave to go. Family is de mos’ importan’ tine dere is.”

He pulled her close once again and held tight. Using all of his senses to remember everything about the love of his life; the touch of her skin, the smell of her hair, the taste of her lips, everything. . . . .”You are my balance, cher. You make me wan’ to be a better man. De sins of my past disappear when I’m wit’ you. . . .I love you Ayla Sharise, wit’ everytine dat I am. . . :

She rested a hand on his cheek and leaned in, kissing him deeply.

“I love you too. Don’t you forget that. And I’m only a message away.” Ayla gazed deeply, her hazel eyes taking in the features of his face that she so loved.

“I know you do, cher.. I will message you every chance I get, jus’ to make sure you don’ forget me.” He smiled again, but this time there was true feeling and laughter in the smile.

Sighing deeply, she took a step back and gazed at him sadly. “I need to start packing.”

He pulled Ayla close and held her tight one more time. “When you are finished, please come back ‘ere an’ spen’ dis las’ night wit’ me?”

Boudreaux (CO)

Her smile shone deeply from her hazel eyes, conveying all the love she possibly could without words. Ayla nodded. “I’ll be back shortly.”

It was hard to leave and she didn’t want to, but it was necessary. She had no idea what the future would hold, and she certainly hoped this wasn’t the end for her and Remy, but she also knew she had to give him room to move on if after six months she couldn’t return. Leaving him hanging wasn’t fair.

OOC: I think that’s about it for me. We can safely assume that it was a bittersweet rest of the evening and they made sure to make their feelings well known. I wish I could have kept on here, but even the ship I have retained have required juggling. Thank you all for the wonderful writing here.
