“Ok. Here’s what we do. These are simple tachyon based sensors.” Sara’s eyes flitted back and forth. “A tachyon beam could confuse the sensors. Either trigger them all simultaneously, or create a field for us to cross.” =/\=Kiernan to Chimera. Prepare a focused tachyon beam targeted between our present location and the fortress ahead of us. Fire on my mark.=/\= “Everyone gather yourselves. We’ll be moving soon.”

=^= Commander, what is going on down there? =^= Sarah asked as she looked over at Sheriye. She wasn’t even sure if the Chimera could fire a tachyon beam.

=/\=Captain. We need a few minutes of ground cover. There are sensor traps set up all along our path. They’re Tachyon based. If the internal workings are designed to react to changes in a tachyon based field, the addition of new tachyon beams is a change their computer might not be ready for. It might trip all the sensors with information they don’t understand.=/\=

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

=/\=Chimera. Fire… now.=/\=

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan

OOC I can’t presume the chimera is doing anything.. Ill cross post and see what the Captain does.

Luke

Sarah raised an eyebrow. Not much warning, she really wondered if the Commander had even bothered to look at the status of the Chimera before heading to the surface, because she wasn’t sure if they could even create a stable tachyon beam.

“Lieutenant, see if we can generate the tachyon beam that the Commander is asking for.”

Captain Allen - CO

Talkrit looked about for a moment, “What is a tach-e-on beam and how can your ship reach the land.” He looked towards the ocean then towards the sky. “Our longest cannon can not reach more than kilometer, mayhap two.”

GM

“It is quite a complex story to tell,” Neribi murmured, preparing for the word to move out.

~Asani Neribi~

Talkrit looked for a moment inquisitively. “We appear to have plenty of time.” He responded as he waited to see if this Taychon beam was to be used.

“Would we see this beam, will there be an explosion?”

“No, it disrupts things, sort of like magic, without really exploding anything,” Neribi replied.

Talkrit - GM

From the bridge of the Chimera a discussion could be heard between the Captain and the CSO and eventually the Caitian Science Officer’s voice came over the comm.
=^=Tachyon burst ready, Commander.=^=

Sheriye CSO

=/\=Fire at will Sheriye.=/\= Sara looked out, glancing back and forth between her tricorder and the field. “Be ready to move.” She said to the team.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

There was no visual evidence that the Tachyon beam was fired. The hand held tricorders of the officers noted there was a flood of particles that overloaded the sensing systems of the Orions, both concealing the Federations approach while simultaneously likely alerting the inhabitants that something weird was going on.

GM

“Move. They probably know something’s wrong, but they don’t know where. Move and move fast.” Sara waved the team on.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

“Aye,” Neribi replied, moving out quickly, but with awareness and caution, keeping her eyes and ears open for signs of an impending attack.

~Asani Neribi~

“This is insane,” Talkrit commented as the leapt forward with the rest of the Federation officers spear gun in hand. “We did much the same, when we attacked a few days ago… although we targeted the gate, what is this tay-key-on, beam that this assault would be more successful than the last… with fewer marines.”

Kate motioned her marines forward, and they left up, running towards the fortress. She sprinted forward so she was in the lead, covering the XO for whatever he had planned. She didn’t have to look back to know her squad had spread out, with half joining her up front, while the rest staid back behind the rest of the team, keeping them covered from all angles.

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine

There wasn’t much going on at first beyond the mad pounding of the feet of the Federation officers. Never did 2500 meters seem so far. On a good day, an in shape officer could cover that distance in 10 minutes, perhaps less, but ten minutes was a long time crossing a relatively open field.

With the sounds of heaving breathing and pounding in their ears, they almost didn’t make out the sounds of moving/shifting dirt. It was as if a doorway in the ground was being opened.... perhaps one, perhaps a half dozen.

GM

Clear the field!” Sara called, loud as she dared. She, unlike those she lead, stopped and opened her tricorder. She had heard some sort of faint sound. Something underground. She knelt down, hoping to catch it soon. Whatever it was.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

-bump-

There was some confused looks as the groups scattered. Many continued towards the fortress wall. If they were going to run they might as well run in the right direction… forward.

As Kiernan opened her tricorder it revealed a series of underground passageways leading from the for to various strategic positions along the field. It now became so obvious why the Orions were able to massacre the Nelay marines, aside from a huge technological advantage, they also had the advantage of preparation and positioning. Two things it seemed that they continued to possess.

GM

They’re under us.” Sara took a deep breath. “Jesus.” she had to get her team clear. She thought for a moment of history classes in school. Earth’s First World War. They were in no man’s land. She stood up, turned, and ran after her team. Again as loud as she dared “Underground tunnels! Hit the fortress!” She’d have time to explain later. For now, it was all about surviving.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

Strangely enough there was some sort of confusion among the Orions, instead of a massive cross hatch of hostiles popping up around the Federation security officers one.. then two panels slid open and like green whack-a-moles the Orion warriors came into view unleashing a series of shots. One of which struck a red shirted security officer turning him into dust before Kiernan’s eyes.

GM

The XO swore under her breath. “Draw weapons! Return Fire! Fighting retreat!” She started taking shots into the squad of Orions.

There was no where near the level of fire that the Nelay had dealt with during their attack a week ago and they were able to fall back with relative ease. In fact there were more Federation officers then Orions who were firing on them.

On board the USS. Liberty Gunnery Sergeant Haygen was working the sensors and detected Star Fleet Comm badges, giving the pilot the coordinates he turned to the Marine Platoon, “Marines, I have no idea where we are, what is going on, or what our mission is. With that said we are Marines, Our job is to find things that need killing and kill them. If earlier down there was any indication were going to get to do our jobs! Grab your gear and suit up. Get ready for whatever we are about to face.”

The gunny then looked to the Pilot who informed him that they would be landing 400 Meters from the signal. The vessel landed with a thud and the doors opened. The Marines ran off the ship and formed around the area. Gunnery Sergeant Haygen hit his communicator, =/\= Star Fleet Marines Alpha 7 to Star Fleet personel on planet, We are a platoon size marine force landing 400 meters from your location, Requesting your sitrep and clearance to proceed to your location. =/\= Haygen swiveled his head looking for any sign of hostilities.

Gunnery Sergeant Haygen
Marine Senior NCO

OOC: So about 20 - 40 marines are landing. There aren’t any ‘anti aircraft’ weapons in the area in fact you can land right in the middle of the field. The hand weapons would have only moderate effect on a liberty with the shields up

=/\=Marines Alpha 7, this is Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan. Orion ambush, under fire, repeat under fire. Land wherever and whenever you can.=/\= “Everyone! Backup on the way!”

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

GM

“Understood Commander,” Kate said as she fired another shot from her rifle. She hoped that the reinforcements would be quick, they would only be able to hold of for so long. Her first responsibility was to get the officers out of harms way, and then get her team out of there.

Haygen heard the fear in the Commanders voice, just like a Fleet Officer to be afraid of a little phaser fire. He tapped the communicator once more. =/\= Well calm yourself down Commander, provide suppressive fire until we get one target, ETA 2 mins. =/\= Haygen turned to his Squad leaders, “First Squad left Flank, Second Squad Center left, Third Squad Center Right, Forth squad Right Flank. Vee formations on movement 400 meters north, set up heavy weapons teams for suppressive fire and advance on the enemy position. Don’t forget we have some space heads out there who need saving so try not to shoot them if you can help it.”

The teams broke into positions and they began a rapid jog towards the fire. Haygen could hear the weapons fire from their position and felt his pulse begin to go rapid, the adrenaline rush that he loved so much, that kept him going was pulsing through his body. he quickened his pace and moved coming into view of the battlefield, weapons fire coming over his and everyone else heads rapidly. Haygen had a snarl like smile on his face as he began firing in the direction of the opening, he moved directly towards the group of Star Fleet Officers to meet with the Commander.

Gunny Haygen
Marine NCO

“Fall back!” Kate yelled to her team as the reinforcements arrived. She fired off a couple more shots before she ducked down and ran for cover. As she reached the line she turned back to help provide cover for the rest of her team, when she noticed one of her men helping another the last 150 meters. He was dragging his leg, it looked like he had probably been shot in the leg. Without hesitating she slung her rifle around her back and ran back out. It only took her a minute to reach them, grabbed his other arm, and slung it over her shoulder.

As they finally reached the line of reinforcements she came to a stop. “Medic!” she screamed. It only took a moment for one of the medic’s to come running over, and she let him take the wounded marine. “How’s the rest of the team Commander?”

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

“So far, they just seem to be taking pot shots, one down, but we need to get organised before they can take aim.” The image of one Starfleet Officer turning to dust haunted Sara’s mind. She approached one of the members of the marine reinforcement unit. “You.” She grabbed at the shoulder of his uniform. “Where’s the commander of your unit?”

A frantic call came from the Chimera above over the comms.=^=Chimerra to Away Team. Sstatuss rreporrt!=^=

Sheriye CSO

=/\=Chimera, Kiernan. Situation; under hostile fire, retreated to marine reinforcements.=/\=

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

The defense started getting more organized during the Federation fall back. The disrupter fire was sporadic as not to reveal their positions, but despite this the Federation officers were able to note that the number of ports that were opening and firing were growing more numerous.

The one Nelay, Talkrit, looked at the new arrivals. “Now you appear from a flying boat. ” He shook his head. “Why can you not use such magic just to return the gems to us.”
