IC: =^=Roger that… Dusting Off.=^= With that the Liberty lifted off with the aforementioned cloud of dust.

She paused for a moment before she leapt over the battle field between the fortress and where the Federation personnel were holed up. Every few moments the Liberty’s main weapon swept out before her in a low but wide arc… silencing the few attackers. In general the Liberty wasn’t a close support weapon, more a delivery craft, but against the relative small arms of the Orion defense team she was more than sufficient to lay waves of suppressing fire.

As the Liberty took off, Kate ducked down and turned away from the oncoming dust. As it blowed away, she turned back towards the fortress.

Haygen and his Marines made it to the Away Team, The marines with the Gunny fanned out in thier teams and started fire suppression, fireing short bursts and rotating between one another to keep a steady stream of fire while conserving power in the weapons. “Well LT, You may not have sent the invitation but it looks like a pretty fun party you have here.”

Haygen

“Oh you know me Gunny, always up for a good time. But it’s not my party…” Kate trailed off as the XO walked over.

Sara walked over and said “It’s actually my party, as you do delicately put it. Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan. We’re pressing for that fortress.” she pointed toward their objective. “The Orion stole some precious gems from the natives. Now we’re caught here. Now you’re up to speed.”

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan

GM

“I think that means it is time to take back the fortress. Hopefully with the Liberty giving us some air support, this will be a breeze.

“Commander, we can have the wounded stay back, but we should capitalize on our advantage now before the Orions have a chance to recover.”

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

Unfortunately there weren’t any injuries, the two officers that were hit by disrupters on kill and they did their job too well.

The gunny assessed his marines, they were already moving the heavy weapons teams into position. The assualt teams were prepared to move. “If we are going to do this, we do it now.”

Haygen
Marine

OOC: How many marines are we talking about. Heavy weapons team(s) - assault team(s)… how big are these teams, pairs, squads, platoons, companies???

Sara looked over at the field and said “Agreed. Get the wounded to a secure position, then we move out.” They couldn’t hear it in her voice, but she was scared. Not of dying, but of losing others in the unit. She surveyed the team, watching them work toward the end of rushing a horde of Orion.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

The Orions on the defense, at least at this moment, were vastly outnumbered and suppressed by the Liberty’s periodic fire. In fact the Liberty was only using a fraction of the phaser power as it had enough force to blow complete holes in the terrain so large that it would cave in the underground network… or just vaporize it in total.

GM

OOC: Haygen brought a platoon which should be 27 Marines with the losses he has suffered so far. There should be two, two man heavy weapons teams, the rest should be broken into 4, 6 man assault teams.

The Marines and Star-Fleet personnel were more than capable of laying down enough suppressing fire to breach the base at any chosen location.

Haygen looked at the Star Fleet Officers, “No time like the present” He moved to observe his personel. The teams were in position and ready to engage. =/\= Fire Support teams begin suppressive fire. Assault teams start moving towards the bunker, leapfrog your teams forward. Breach and secure. =/\= With that Haygen began moving forward at a rapid pace. Firing his weapon as he went. Moving forward then taking cover and providing fire for other teams to move forward. The teams made quick progress with this method.

Haygen

There was significant waves of phaser fire that silenced the Orion disrupters. It wasn’t a matter of putting up a good fight the Orions were completely out gunned in the open field and seems to have slipped away in their tunnels and scurried back to the ‘fortress of caves’.

“Coming Commander?” Kate asked Sara. She waited just long enough to see if the XO would be joining them, before rounding up her own team and joining the assault on the base.

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

Sara made sure the entire team was moving and then sprinted into the fray. She was a decent shot, for a science officer.

It was over a hundred yards which, when they were under fire seemed like miles uphill, was very simple when the tides were turned. They reached the original objective, which was a flat face of granite like stone that rose over 20 meters and seemed very thick. But they presumed there was a open space behind it.

GM

Probably too thick to just cut through with phasers. It’d need a decent size charge for an explosive to work” She started scanning the wall and what lay beyond. In her head she was swearing at Haygen. They were going to have words about the chain of command later.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

The tricorder was strangely ineffective. There had to be some sort of jamming going on, on the other side of the stone barrier. The Nelay Marine had kept up and looked at the Lieutenant Commander as she first looked at the wall and then at the small black box. “It is a meter and half of stone at most points on this face of the wall.” He said, somehow divining what Kiernan wanted to know.

“It would take a dozen men a day to chip through it… unless your weapons have more magic than meets the eye.”

Talkrit Nelay Marine
GM

Haygen stepped forward turning and yelled “Demo!!!!!!!!!” a young marine came running, “Alright you ugly bastard, you get to blow somthing up.” Turning and looking to him “I want a door, not a pile of ruble, a door. Don’t try and hit the ship in orbit with debris.... just make a door. Can you do that Marine?”

Haygen

“Say 3 by 3 - 2 meters deep, standard metamorphic rock.” The marine tapped the wall for a moment. He reached in his back and pulled out a daisy chain of linked disks. He splayed it about the wall, three meters high and down the sides about two and a half meters apart. He then paused and added a few more disks at a couple of points. “And a little more just in case rock on this planet is harder than typical.”

He smiled and Haygen “Fifteen seconds?” He questioned picked up what had to be a detonator and pressed a button before he received confirmation. “Fire in the hole!!!” Yelling , he bolted about 10 meters down the wall and turned his face away from the explosives.

Talkrit tilted his head as he looked at them. “What does it mean, fire in the hole? There is no hole, there is no fire.”

GM.
