Leo walked up to the door of the CSO’s office to report in for duty. He looked at the door, walked up to it to press the buzzer. He stepped back before he even pressed it. Straighten his uniform. Stepped forward. Stepped back.
Leo turned away from the door, pacing the corridor for up to a minute before walking back up to the door. He took a deep breath as he went for the buzzer again but stepped back once again. “Ensign O’Reilly reporting to duty… ” He muttered to himself as he walked back up, took another deep breath and pressed the buzzer this time, then stepping back quickly and held his breath as he waited for a response.

Unknown to the new Science Officer his pressing the button by the door was redundant as the doors swooshed open on their own. As the young officer nervously waited he would see a Caitian standing before a screen display on the wall beside her desk. Her fur was a vibrant red, black and orange mix in coloring and was glossy as she was very meticulous with her grooming. She appeared to be engrossed in the display and was muttering to herself as she studied it, tail lazily swishing back and forth with her ruminations.

Leo remained frozen in the corridor as the door opened and waited a few seconds once it had opened before he tentatively took a step forward up to the door. That’s when he noticed Sheriye and that she was distracted. As he noticed this he let out the breath he’d been holding. After a quick glance at the floor of the office, Leo brushed his hair in an attempt to buy time and make sure he didn’t look messy, the latter of which failed as his hair went straight back to its original position. He held his breath once again and stepped forward into the office carefully in an attempt not to make a sound.
Now inside the office he noticed his hands shaking slightly and hid them behind his back taking up a formal looking position. He looked at the CSO and opened his mouth to speak but no sound came out. He straightened his uniform and tried again this time looking at the floor by her feet. “Ensign O’Reilly reporting for duty,” Leo whispered so quietly he could barely hear it himself. He pinched the palm as he tried again to help himself focus. “Ensign O’Reilly reporting for duty,” He repeated, louder this time, looking up just afterwards hoping to cover the fact he’d been looking away.

Being a Caitian, Sheriye had actually heard the young Ensign enter the office when the door had whooshed open but she appeared to be trying to finish a train of thought. Once the young man successfully got out his second introduction of himself she snorted in irritation and finally turned.

“Rrelax, Enssign. I am not going to bite you.” She said in her purring Caitian accent. “Have a sseat, you look like yourr going to fall down.” She added as she moved over to her desk and deftly hopped up onto the seat. A move that would more then likely unsettle the new Ensign even more but until she could requisition a proper chair for Caitian anatomy, it was how she had to sit.

Leo was caught off guard when she jumped onto her seat and stopped for a second as he moved towards his seat. This was brief however and he continued over to take a seat at the opposite side of the desk to her, albeit at a slower pace. When he reached the seat he sat down slowly, with clear uncertainty, as if expecting that he might not be allowed.

Settling herself comfortably on the chair she looked toward O’Reilly.”Sssoo.” She said languidly as Caitians never did anything in a hurry.”You arre my new officerr. Tell me about yourrsself and how you have gotten herre.”

Leo shifted in his seat slightly, just before he answered. “There isn’t really much to know about me. I grew up on Earth, this is my first assignment after leaving the academy. Um…” He paused to try to come up with more knowing that wouldn’t be enough. “That-that’s all I’ve got.” As he finished saying this his eyes quickly looked around the part of the office he could seeing, taking in his surroundings, although he made sure that his head barely turned at all in an attempt to keep it subtle.

OOC: Sorry, I was away for the holidays:)

The office was typical starship office with the normal carpeting and requisite desk and chairs. Along one side of the office though was a long counter with shelves above that were full of old style books. The counter held various scientific equipment for the CSO to work on various projects. In the front corner though was a non regulation large floor pillow. A few datapads were scattered on it at the moment to show the CSO obviously used it for extended reading time.

Sheriye studied the obviously young, nervous officer for a moment. “What made you want to join Sstarr-Fleet, Enssign? Do you have family in the Fleet?”

While Leo took in what he saw around the room as he refocused on the CSO, the only break being a brief pause as he noticed the pillow. By the time she’d finished talking he was focusing back on her. “I think it was partly that I wanted to see space and what’s out there, but it was mainly I thought I’d be best doing something science related and encouragement from my family. My sister is also in Star-Fleet and my parents both use to be.” Leo replied, idly moving hands as he spoke.

“Ahh” Sheriye said finally getting a straight answer from the young officer.”And what iss it that you arre hoping to find and disscoverr out herre? What iss yourr passsion to sstudy?” She asked leaning forward.

“Well, I… ” Leo thought for a second and without even thinking brushed his hair slightly, like last time it made like difference to his hair, which went right back to where it was as soon as his hand had passed. “I’m not really sure, I guess for discover something new, something nobody else has ever seen or recorded or something. As for passion, I’m… well I’m not too sure. I guess Biology was often the one I would find most interesting, the way things interact with each other and evolve over time, but they all had there interesting points.” His voice was clearly showing he was calming but not by a lot.

Sheriye grinned,”Ah well, on a sstarrsship you will learrn many thingss and ssee many thingss. You will have a chance to find yourr interressts. I think the perrfect place forr you then is on the brridge wherre you can watch and learrn. Sso I would like you to rreporrt to the brridge and man the sscience sstation therre. Ssend me rreporrtss of what you ssee and find.”

OOC: Currently we have an away team on the planet and have just finished a fight with the Orions who were deviling the planet here so your character could just continue scans of the area and the away team to keep an eye on things.

Leo nodded and while noticeably uncertain he was also clearly slightly excited by the prospect of being on the bridge. “OK,” was all he could think of to reply before going silently again. After a short silence he asked nervously. “Is that all?”

“It iss. Dissmisssed, Enssign.” Sheriye said with a curt nod. After the Ensign left she rose and returned to what she had been working on with the display.
