Sara moved into cover. “Probably the Orion we didn’t down. Can’t be a terrific shot if he needed Talkrit 100% exposed. Clear shot from across the room.” She grabbed Haygen. “Help me get an angle on him. If he’s shooting across the room, he’s probably around the corner we didn’t clear.”

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

OOC: Sorry if I wasn’t clear, the hallway is in front of the room - picture a box (room) with a 2x4 on top of it (hall) - the opening (no actual door) is in the middle. the shot came from within the room with the little lizards. As a group, you were outside the room in a hallway. When Talkrit entered the room he became visible to the shooter and that’s when he was fired upon. There was no shot possible from within the room until that time. Nor is there a good shot from outside the room.

To create a good firing shot, one would have to enter the room exposing themselves dramatically. This can be done, at risk, or one can poke their head and arm around the corner probably exposing themselves to a better shot by the hostile than they could get off. You can re-author your action if you want or just press forward.

Haygen moved to the area, “We could throw a couple of disorientation grenades into the room. Then move two , two man elements in to secure the room”

Haygen

“How would it affect the youngin’s though? We have to think unconventionally…”

A flash bang grenade generated enough sonic power to disorient a Gorn. A creature that was probably 10 times as hardy as these small lizards. There was no guarantee that it would not do permanent damage to which ever lizards were nearby, and the blast would certainly critically injury any that happened to be on top of it. Given the density of creatures in here, that was almost a certainty.

Kate looked around. “XO, we need to get Talkrit out of here. Can you arrange a medical transport for him out of here? We might have a chance to save him. Maybe.

“Gunny, smoke grenade. Send two men in, one each way. Hopefully we can get him in the distraction. Minimum stun setting only. Distract, and subdue. Understood?”

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

Gunnery Sergeant Haygen nodded, “Understood, Johnson your with me” Haygen set up on one side of the door as Johnson stood on the other, he prepped the smoke, “On your order Lieutenant”

Haygen

“Ok Talkrit will be going to sickbay, but I’ll be right here.” She surrendered control of the firefight to the Marines. =/\=Kiernan to sickbay, one native for direct transport. He goes nowhere but sickbay.=/\=

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

Talkrit’s eyes drooped as he spoke. “Prop me up and send me in first. I’m dead already.”

Talkrit
GM

=^=Aye Lieutenant, we’ll site to site the native straight to sickbay. Powering up.=^= The transporter room was taking agonizingly long to beam out the native.

“Hold tight Talkrit, we are going to get you through this, and save the young as well.”

Kate looked back over at the Gunny and nodded. “You have a go Gunny.”

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

One marine peeked around the frame of the doorway before pulling a cylindrical grenade from his pouch, he looked at it for a moment before pulling the pin, releasing the spring, after another pause, he threw the grenade in the direction he suspected the shooter was. The room was massive one grenade would take a while to fill it, but proximity to target was helpful.

Johnson, looked to the sergeant.

GM

The gunny had the smoke in his hand, looking at Johnson “Go” They thew the smokes and counted to ten to make sure they had effect and then quickly peeled into the room and immdiatly turned to the left and right perspectivly. Haygen survayed the situation looking for any movement or sound.

Gunny Haygen

Coughing when exposed to smoke is based on the irritation of the smoke and on the subconscious expectation that smoke would make you cough. Even as the smoke filled the room the adult Orion started coughing long before the miniature lizards made any sound, scurrying away from the cylinder canisters of colored fog. Unfortunately the smoke obscured both the marines entering the room and the Orion within it. Leading to several ‘off’ the mark shots from the Orion.

Without a clear shot none of the Federation personnel opened fire. However there was a form that was clearly adult, standing upright and firing, if one of the players wanted to take a shot at it.

GM

Kate ducked back around the corner of the doorway as the Orion started shooting at them. They had to end this quickly.

Pulling out her rifle, she led with it as she turned back around the corner. It was hard to see, but you could clearly see one large form towards the back of the room. She quickly did a head count of her marines, and counted them all all still towards the entryway.

One shot, that’s all she had. Sighting down the rifle, she targeted the Orion’s center of mass and fired. The smoke it harder to see, but she was certain that she had hit her target. Keeping her rifle up she quickly moved forward into the room towards the Orion.

(I fricking hate it when I put text inside another persons post.)
The breaching troops were moving and didn’t really want to shoot and run with so many biologicals about, a missed shot could be tragic. Hawkins on the other hand has a less risky shot as it was reasonable to assume the Orion would be firing at the Marines running about and not at the Lieutenant that followed behind and who took a measured shot.

There was the comforting hum of the phaser rifle as the recoiless weapon just warmed slightly as it discharged it’s energy at the Orion who crumpled and fell.

“Target neutralized. Clear the room.”

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

Sara followed Hawkins, phaser in hand. God help us. With Talkrit in sickbay, the team would have to find a new guide among the Nelay, or remember Talkrit’s guide on her tricorder.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

OOC: I have no confirmation from the ship that Talkrit was beamed up and treated in medical, but we can assume.

Aside from the crumpled Orion form there was no more hostiles in the room. What there were was hundreds a miniature lizards, and several hundred of crystalline gem stones, that if anyone bothered to touch were warm.

GM

“Rooms clear Lieutenant,” once of Kate’s team said as they finished checking the room. “All we got is what appears to be a bunch of their young, and a ton of gems. I think they moved all of the treasure here el tee.”

Kate nodded. “XO, we need to spread out and finish securing this fortress.”

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

“Agreed.” Sara paused. “Marines can lay that one out. I don’t care if you shoot them all or force them out. Whatever works. I have the map that Talkrit used. He gave us a few possible locations. That’s Starfleet’s priority. We’ll follow in and sweep for the gems. When we find them, I’ll signal you. If you clear the fortress first, call that in and come in as backup on the search.”

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

Surprisingly there were no more surprises in the the fortress, with the exception of the lone Orion that ran from the first engagement. The one inside the room was not the same person. There were no other ‘living’ Orions about. There were out numbered and out supplied by the Federation troops and the Orions (at least) one used the tunnels to escape into the surrounding area. The hand scanners of the officers nor the scanners of the shuttle could locate them.

Gm

Haygen hit his comms after receiving a briefing from his team =/\= Lieutenant, structure is secure. Permission to set a parameter”

Gunny Haygen

=^= Set a perimeter Gunny. Keep an eye on the sky, and make sure no one tries tunneling in on us. =^=

After returning to the bridge Jones felt he needed to speak directly with the Away Team =/\= Captian Jones to Lt. Commander Kiernan, your status Commander? =/\=

CO

=/\=Things are getting easier. We’ve achieved entry into the fortress, the marines have cleared the Orion presence, and the Starfleet team is about to sweep for the gems.=/\= Sara opened her tricorder and showed the map to her officers. She assigned groups to go in different directions. At the end of her orders, she added “good luck. Let’s get going.” With that, Sara turned and walked towards the room she was assigned to search.

-Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan, XO

=/\= Very good Commander, keep me apprised of the situation and let me know what resources you may need. =/\=

CO

“You heard the Commander,” Kate said as she turned back towards the teams, “move out. Keep your eyes and ears open.”

Flipping her own tricorder, she held it up in her left hand as she held her rifle in her right. She headed towards one of the other rooms and started a quick scan, trying to see if they could get an idea of where the gems were.
