Tenkiller had Ivanovic moved to one of the holding cells and two guards placed outside. Meeting them as they entered, Tenkiller remained silent as the Engineer was moved into the cell and the shield brought up. Thankfully, the holding cells had a dedicated generator so they would be functional for a few more hours. Once the suspect was inside and secured, Tenkiller pulled a chair over and sat down in front of the field. He began going over the accumulated oddities… ‘evidence’ being a strong word at this point… surrounding Mr. Ivanovic. He didn’t speak, he didn’t look up… and most importantly he didn’t offer any explanation as to why the man had been brought in.

Tenkiller, CoS

“I don’t know why we are having a conversation in the the brig, Tenkiller. Fifteen years of service and I get this sort of harassment, the Captain, whoever that may be will be hearing about this.”

Grigor Ivanovic
GM

Tenkiller kept looking at the PaDD in front of him for several more moments before looking up as if something had just occurred to him. “Hmm? What? Oh, I’m sorry. I wasn’t listening. What did you say?” he said flatly. “Oh, and before you answer, I guess I should let you know that anything you say can and will be used in… blah, blah, blah. I’m sure you know that.” and he went back to looking at the PaDD. Tenkiller wasn’t about to read the man his rights. He wasn’t technically under arrest yet, after all. “And I’m sure someone will be hearing about this… but I don’t think it will be the person you think.” and he chuckled to himself.

Tenkiller, CoS

“I said you can’t do this to me, you holding me here can affect my career. What will everyone think? What he hell are you thinking?” Tenkiller couldnt tell if he was actually angry or full of bluster, what was clear that he was hamming it up at least a little bit.

GM

Tenkiller didn’t look up, he just held up his index finger in the universal sign of ‘Just a minute, I’m busy.’ and let the man stew for another few moments. He then asked, still looking down at the PaDD, “Eight letter word for ‘person engaging in physical subversion’, ending in ‘u-r’. Any ideas? I tell ya, these Times Crossword puzzles get harder and harder…” Tenkiller knew he could probably break Ivanovic. But that would take time they didn’t have. His only option was to make Ivanovic think his ending was inevitable, whatever ending his imagination conjured up, and Tenkiller was simply there to make sure it went off as smoothly as possible. Tenkiller hoped that by remaining passive and unresponsive, Ivanovic would try to bargain. He knew that human nature was pretty constant… If someone is faced with an inevitable and undesired outcome, they will try almost anything to avoid it. In this case, Tenkiller was hoping that Ivanovic would try to cut a deal to make whatever outcome he imagined more… palatable.

Tenkiller, CoS

“GRANDEUR, as in illusions of, as if you have the power to hold me here without cause.” He looked at Tenkiller, “I hope you took a picture of those pips because you won’t be seeing them again for a long time.”

Sill without looking up, Tenkiller said “Naw. More like chewed out. I’ve been chewed out before.”

The Captain arrived outside of the holding cell, pressing the chime he waited for a response.

CO

Tenkiller looked at the feed from outside and smiled. “Ah, good. This should be fun.” and he set the PaDD down. Opening the door, he said simply “Captain Jones.” and stepped aside so the officer could enter.”

Tenkiller, CoS

“Who is that?” Apparently Grigor didn’t get the notice that they had a new captain.

Grigor Ivanovic
GM

Tenkiller looked at the man in the cell and said “Unfortunately for you, this is the new Commanding Officer. Oh, Captain? Mr. Ivanovic has requested somewhat emphatically that I be demoted and thrown in the stocks. I’m paraphrasing, but the sentiment is there. I’m not quite sure he is actually aware of how much trouble he is in… or how much we know about his extra-curricular activity.”

Tenkiller, CoS

The engineer squinted slightly at Tenkiller’s words. “You still haven’t told me what trouble I’m in. You can’t hold me without a reason… without a charge.”

Grigor Ivanovic
GM

Tenkiller looked at Ivanovic and said “We have a reason. And I can’t charge you, Mr. Ivanovic. Not for what you are involved in.” and he then jerked his thumb at Jones. “But he can. Now, I’m not a gambling man, Grigor. But I would be willing to bet that there is a penal colony in your very near future. Of course, if you help us out before you are charged, that could change the nature of your Court Martial. Just a thought, you know.”

Tenkiller, CoS

OOC: Copying in CE’s request

IC: Tenkiller’s badge chirped and the CE’s voice came through. =^= Engineering to Tenkiller, I could use a few officers to make my way to science with to pick up the dilithium chamber, what with our intruder alert going on. =^= Tenkiller didn’t take his eyes off of Grigor, but tapped his badge. =/\= Tenkiller to Team Bravo. Report to the Chief Engineer immediately for escort. =/\= and he then said =/\= Tenkiller to Engineering. Team on it’s way. ETA one minute to your location, Chief. =/\=

Tenkiller, CoS

=/\= Roger that chief I’ll put them to good use. =/\= Came Heather’s voice over the comm’s

Heather Argeneau, CE

The captain walked into the room studying the officer, “Mr. Ivanovic, as you should know I am Captain John P. Jones, The Captain of this vessel. The Chief of Security here is acting on my behalf. Since you are a Star Fleet Officer you should also know that I can hold you in the brig at any point I deem it necessary. The fact is im here to lay out a deal for you, it will be the only deal that you ever receive, it’s a one time offer and it will expire. Are you interested in hearing it?”

CO

This was a new tack and it gave Grigor pause. “An offer?” He didn’t give much back concerned that any statement would be used against him at a later date.

GM

bump to keep it on the main page

Waiting for the CO’s response.

The Captain walked over and sat down in a chair, he leaned back slightly keeping his arms in front of him relaxed. “Right now every piece of your life is being torn apart and reviewed. Every communication, every item you have ever processed through any computer, your room is being searched. So you will understand that what I am offering you expires rather quickly. If you are willing to start telling me everything about the sabatoug to this vessel I will ensure that you never see the inside of a federation prison. Before you answer you will understand that should I hear from the security teams conducting this investigation with any more evidence against you this deal expires. So it’s really your choice, come clean and save yourself or you will face your entire life in the worst prison I can possibly send you to.”

CO

Tenkiller looked back down at his crossword. “I hear the penal colony on Mafru IX is a real &^%t hole. Even the Klingons think it’s too bad for their criminals.” And then he looked up and at Jones. “OH! What about that hard labor camp over by the Neural Zone! I mean, it’s run by the Romulans, but I’m sure they’d love to get their hands on a bonafide Star Fleet Engineer.” Tenkiller paid no attention to Grigor. His tone was conversational, like he and the Captain were old friends reminiscing about past fishing trips. It was then Tenkiller looked at Grigor for the first time, even though he still spoke to the Captain. “I mean, it’s not like we’re gonna document where he ends up, anyway.” he said flatly and with the fullest conviction possible. He knew, of course, that wasn’t the case. But he hoped Jones would pick up on the way he was setting up the suspect.

Tenkiller, CoS

Grigor for the first time visibly swallowed. He had covered his trail, but was that good enough to conceal himself from a focused search of his whole life. Was that even legal,he wasn’t certain, but the deal the Captain offered might be too good to refuse. “I want it in writing.” He said after a few moments. “No prison, no rehabilitation, for answers.”

Grigor Ivanovic
GM

Tenkiller chuckled. “And there it is.” he said and looked up at Grigor. “Oh, and the eight letter word for ‘person engaging in physical subversion’, ending in ‘u-r’ is ‘Saboteur’. You really should learn that term if you are gonna have the job and all.”

Tenkiller, CoS

Jones pulled out a PadD, and handed it to Grigor it stated ‘In exchange for the cooperation of Grigor Ivanovic as the Captain of the USS. Chimera I hereby grant immunity for the act of Sabotage on the engines of the USS. Chimera. Should any information be found to be false or mislead this authorization is null and void’.

Jones watched the man, “It’s to late to cover your tracks, it to late to escape. It’s not to late to save yourself from never seeing freedom again. Every fact you tell us we will verify, if you hold back this deal is gone. It really is your choice.” Jones looked at Tenkiller, “Lieutenant, just to be clear if Mr. Ivanovic attempts to escape I consider him to be a threat to this ship, as such you are authorized and ordered to use deadly force.”

Tenkiller reached down to his hip and pulled out the phaser. Tilting it so that Grigor could see, he set the power to maximum. “Aye, Sir.” he said to the CO. He then looked at Grigor and said nothing, just held the weapon at the ready.

Jones looked back at Grigor “I certainly home you understand your current position Mr. Grigor”

Captain Jones
CO

Tenkiller, CoS

Grigor took the PaDD and signed it, “Ten days ago I was contacted by Orions who knew of me and my family due to mostly legal trading with my father’s freighter company. Knowing I was on the Chimera and knowing, somehow, that the Chimera was likely to be dispatched to any emergency around or near the Nelaycross system they wanted me to be ready to keep the ship from ‘intervening’ in their business.”

“I was certain to make clear that, keeping the Chimera out of their business, would not include me harming anyone or endangering the crew… I created a backdoor in the comms system that allowed for undetected communications so I could keep them abreast of what I was doing and they could tell me what was needed.”

He looked up and paused. “Is that what you need?”

Grigor Ivanovic
GM

Captain Jones kept a cool even face, “Who else were you working with on the ship, and how exactly did you disable the engines?”

CO

“There was no one else. You think two officers would try to disable the ship. I re-aligned the crystals so they would cause a feed back loop and the whole system blew and damaged the chamber.”

GM

Captain Jones sat back and looked at the man. Then turning his head to the Security Chief “Lieutenant, verify everything this man has said, gather all records and logs, ensure that your report is highly detailed.” The Captain picked up the padd and read aloud “ ‘I hereby grant immunity for the act of Sabotage on the engines of the USS. Chimera’ Remember to separate out the specific act of sabotage to the engines, I would say that would be from the time he began working to realign the crystals, everything else according to this deal that Mr. Gregor Signed is still in play. Mr. Gregor is to be confined to the brig until he can be transferred to Star Fleet Security at a later time. I want guards on him at all times.”

“Aye aye, Captain.” Tenkiller replied.

The Captain stood and turned to Gregor, “Mr. Gregor you are hereby relieved of all duties aboard the USS. Chimera, your rank and privileges are hereby suspended until you are bound over for trial. You are being held on the official charge of Treason.”

Captain Jones
CO

Tapping the comms, Tenkiller mumbled a few commands and within moments three guards arrived and took up positions. “No contact with anyone save the Captain and myself. If he attempts to escape, shoot him.” and he turned to Grigor. “Bad thing about being formally charged with treason. You are now a Class 1 security threat. If you so much as twitch in your sleep wrong, you will be shot. And no, I am not joking. Mind yourself, Grigor.”

Tenkiller, CoS

OOC: Well that makes sense, I was confused when you offered to cut him loose. Technically you can’t use the confession he just made as evidence for those charges nor as a basis to start a search (fruit of the poisonous tree and all), but knowing what you know finding what you need would be relatively easy.

“You can’t do that, you said you’d set me free.” Grigor worked through the logic of what the Captain said and what he had just signed. “You tricked be… you can’t trick me..”

Grigor Ivanovic, former Eng
GM

OOC: Actually subterfuge is completely legal, I use this tactic for confessions quite a bit in RL. I asked only question’s about the actual sabatoug of the ship, You chose to give further information than what I asked so it would still be usable in court, which won’t really matter for the sim.

OOC: Fair enough for me. Grigor is displeased and I’m sure his lawyer will try to twist it around, but it is fair to say there is jail time in his immediate and long term future.

IC:

Captain Jones turned back to Grigor, “Mr. Ivanovic you have absolute immunity for the act of destroying the engines, I said nothing about your conspiracy against Star Fleet with the Orions.” Turing back to the Security Chief “Chief lets get to work”

CO

“Liar, this will never stand up at a court marshal.” Grigor was practically foaming at the mouth as he stood up suddenly, he paused as he considered his ill conceived thought about attacking the Captain. He might be able to wiggle out of the conspiracy charge if his lawyer was clever enough. He’d never get away with striking a superior officer. In front of witnesses, and probably being recorded. “You’ll pay…” He said instead impotently as he plopped down in his chair deflated.

GM

Tenkiller looked at him and said “Not as much as you will.” and then turned back to Jones and said “Ready, Sir. Lead the way.”
