Captain Jones was assessing the situation on the ground and on the ship when an emergency communications came from Star Fleet Command,=/\= USS. Chimera, Lt. Cmdr Sara Kiernan is ordered to board the USS. Liberty which is at your current location and return to Starbase Halcyon for permanent reassignment. Authorization for immediate selection of Executive officer given. Step promotion authorized at discretion of the Captain. End Message =/\=
Captain Jones reread the message. The USS. Liberty was on the surface still so he relayed the instructions, the Chief Science Officer should be headed to the ground to take over the away mission anyway. Thinking of the crew and who was on board he tapped his comm badge, =/\= Lieutenant Tenkiller report to the bridge immediately. =/\=

=/\= Copy, Captain. On my way. =/\= came an immediate response. Less than two minutes passed and Tenkiller walked onto the bridge. Coming around to the Captain’s chair, the Osage Security Chief looked at Jones and said “Here, sir. What do you need?” as he shot a glance at the Security officer on the bridge who simply shrugged in the universal sign of ‘I have no idea, but it wasn’t me.’

Captain Jones looked up, “Ah Lieutenant, I think you would agree that things have been horrible since I have taken over, quite frankly I can’t believe that I took command of a ship while it was in combat and disabled. This ship needs stability, The Executive Officer has been reassigned effectively immediately, im not really sure what is going on with that but I need a Number One who can take control of this vessel and make things work the way they are supposed to. Frankly I think that’s you, I am asking you to take over as the permanent Executive Officer.” Jones stared Tenkiller in the eyes to see his reaction.

Tenkiller didn’t flinch, but the corner of his mouth turned up s he suppressed a grin. “You know, sir. I like a CO with a sense of humor as much as the next guy, but maybe right now isn’t the best time for jokes? Just a suggestion, Skipper.” he said with is trademark Oklahoma accent. His eyes flashed with mirth at what he truly and obviously thought was a joke.
