Elsa’s voice came over the comms =^=Georgio to Sickbay, you have an emergency beam in coming. Phaser shot to the chest.=^=

MCO

OOC: This is retroactive in the sim… so this thread would have happened about a half an hour ago in game time.

A native Nelay, a bi-pedal lizard appearing mammal, had taken a disrupter shot to the chest. The disrupter was set on kill, but not disrupt and hadn’t vaporized him. It had done a fairly good job in disintegrating a large part of his chest, including the lungs, stomach, kidney and liver. If not for the semi-cauterizing action the Nelay, named Talkrit, would be dead before being beamed to the ship. He certainly will be dead in a few more minutes.

GM

Liam heard the call come over the speaker. as he tapped a button. =^= “Acknowledged. Will be ready!” =^= Liam said quickly as he moved from the lab and moved to the main part of sickbay as the transporter operator beamed the being into his sickbay as he materialized on the Biobed that showed barely signs of life on the main monitors As he did a brief scan with a tricorder. as he noted the missing chest plate and organs. As he made the being comfortable as he could as the prognosis was not a good one. with missing that much of the chest and organs he or it only had minutes.

Liam pressed a button =^= “Sickbay to Bridge There is nothing I can do for our patient There is too much damage?” =^= Liam said calmly to the bridge. =^= ” Sickbay Out!” =^=

Lt Jg Liam Batario
Chief Medical Officer

OOC: You certainly can apply pain killers and extend his life.. perhaps several hours. But without replacement organs he’s a dead lizard looking mammal.

The bi-pedal lizard turned and faced the medical officer, “That’s what I told them.” He swung his head heavily about the room. “I’m not in Clearwater anymore.” The Nelay seemed to have a pretty good grasp on what was going on.

“At least we saved the gems.” He reached out with a leaden arm towards the CMO as his eyes focused in on him with difficulty. “Thank you…”

“I would have loved to fire one of your beam weapons.... ” He exhaled.

Talkrit Nelay Marine

Occ: Making him comfortable does usually mean there was some type of pain neutralizer to help with discomfort. I am sorry I did not spell it completely out.
david aka Liam

OOC: Yes you did.
Luke

“So this is the boat that the Federation travels on? Much brighter than I would have expected.”

Talkrit
GM

Liam was not sure what else to say to the dying lizard man. As he tried to make the being more comfortable. ( Liam’s mind was open to anything or impressions from the lizard man. )” Yes at times the lights can be pretty bright.” Liam said softly as he decreased the light by 20 % around the patient’s area. Liam knew that his patient was no long for this world but losing someone is still not an easy one. Friend or foe it’s all the same to him. there all living beings with intelligence and feelings and loved ones.
Liam stayed by the being since there was nothing more to do in sickbay and It might be comforting to have someone here when the being passes. As the vitals on the monitors started to show a slight decline in readings.

Lt Jg Liam Batario CMO

Talkrit started breathing deeper and more slowly. It wasn’t quite labored but anyone who could read the monitors could tell that he was fading, but his biology allowed him to survive longer than expected with so many systems damaged. In fact they probably could prolong his life by hours if they cleaned his blood artificially.

“No torches, so is this electric power? We aren’t big fans of electricity in Clearwater.”
GM

“Sadly no torches! We are using electricity to power lights. Sorry to hear that sometimes electricity can have a positive effect. I do admit that electricity can have bad effects too.” Liam sat there with Talkrit to keep him comfortable. More and more than the doctor thought about it he could replace the lungs, Kidney, and liver, but an artificial stomach?? But he would have to deal complete reconstruction of the chest cavity and muscle tissue and skin. or in is case scales. Liam was wondering if he should try now or not? He was uncertain where this creature was concerned.

LT. JG. Liam Batario CMO

OOC: He isn’t dead yet, you are welcome to try.

“Ir’s the water… ” He looked at the ceiling for a moment. “We spend about 20% of our time in water, haven’t found a consistent way to keep from electrocuting ourselves.” He started laughing which turned into a coughing spasm that then caused a little bloody sputum. “That hurt way too much.”

Talkrit

The doctor finally stood up. “Please relax and stay calm I am going to try and save you.” Liam said with a small smile. “If I can help it you will see your waters and your village again.” Liam said with conviction and strength. As he moved over to the office and made a quick log entry.

Talkrit chuckled as if the doctor was telling a mildly amusing joke. He was surprised he was still alive for the moment, but less being completely healed as this human said.

Doctors Medical Log Star Date Today:

I am taking on an unprecedented procedure and monumental task of repairing an injured officer that has lost most of his main chest cavity by a disrupter blast point blank range. The patient still lives still and if there is a chance to keep the officer with us I must try. This may or may not give me issues in the future by Star Fleet and Star Fleet Medical not to mention possible others. But I am will take that risk to save the life of this man.

End log.

As the doctor came out as he called his teams together to explain what he was doing and to see how long it would take to get everything together. Making sure they knew the time of was of the essence.

“Nurse make sure to get the suite ready a long operation with a complete list of replacement parts from donors from the lizard man race or donor tissue so we can grow them. In a lot of ways, I would prefer organic parts and not mechanical ones. unless we use the Genotronic Replicator I did swear that I was not going to use that device but I do see the uses. Since the untimely deaths of patients on the Uss Enterprise -d.” Liam commented calmly to them. “How long will it take to get everything together??” As Liam looked over the man’s vitals they seemed to be holding for now. He thought to himself.

LIam Batario CMO

“That depends, are we contacting the natives for volunteer donors, or are we…” the nurse looked around, “taking parts. I’m sure they have hospitals or a sort on the planet, and those hospital have donor services… or at the very least bodies....”

The nurse suspected that if they just beamed from the planet what they needed they probably could get most of the organs in a under an hour and the blood even faster than that, but there was likely ethical and legal issues to that. If they asked, there could be religious rationales why the people wouldn’t do it. Neither the nurse or the doctor knew much about the political, religious, and medical systems of the Nelay aside from they were a roughly circa 1850 - 1900 stage of development.

GM

“Nurse go on the premise that we have to get the parts from the replicator or samples from our patient or scans and or data in library files. along with transporter trace patterns. I will try and talk to the captain to see what is the current situation down there?” Liam told the officer calmly as he gave her time to think over the situation and get him some answers. =^= Sickbay to Bridge, I need to speak with the captain at his earliest convenience. Sickbay out=^= Liam tapped the com-channel closed. As he waited for the captain to arrive or talk to him privately by the visual monitor in the doctor’s office or however he wished to talk. Liam mind was now swimming with all sorts of ideas and plans but it has to deal with if it was ok to contact the surface in person or if the prime directive is in effect or not.

Captain Jones had been enroute to Sickbay to investigate what was going on with the Alien, The bridge had relayed the request and he moved a little faster, the doors to Sickbay opened and Jones proceeded through them quickly, “Lieutenant Batario what’s the status on our friend here?”

CO

“unusually stable for a being missing have of his organs. Sir! What is our status with the natives on the surface? The only way to save the alien is to get replacement parts from his kind. or tissue samples to create replicated organs using the genotronic replicator. Are we under the prime directive or is it been resended? Sir” The doctor asked with curiosity and concerned for his patient.

The advantage of being part amphibious, just keep him wet enough and he can survive for a real long time.

GM

Liam moved over to the utility cabinet and grabbed some towels and wet them down in a Large bowl of water as he started placing the now wet towels all over the alien’s body. To help him keep hydrated and keep him stable. As he still waited for the captain to answer him. “Sir? Did you understand my question?” Liam asked as he turned to face him. As he stood still and quiet like Liam was at attention but not.. “Sir! ” as he snapped his fingers. Noticing he was lost in thought.

The nurse looked at him for a moment. “The salinity of this planet is 14% greater than Earth normal.”

The scans suggested that the creature also had a primitive hibernation biology, not that they knew how to activate it.

GM

“nurse please add the proper salinity factors into the water drapings so that will help the patient. We will deal with the idea of a primitive hibernation soon. but for now, we need to keep the patient stable and comfortable as possible as we get the things needed to try and save his life.” Liam said calmly to the nurse. As he waited for the captain to answer him.

Captain Jones entered sickbay, he picked up the padD that had recorded everything so far, “Doctor, we have violated the prime directive in several diffrent ways, is there any possibility that the patient, if transported back to thier people would be able to survive?”

CO

OOC: If there is a number lower than zero I would give it. There is no chance of survival if Talkrit is returned to the planet.

Luke

“Honesty captain I believe there is no hope if the man is returned to his home. If there was a percentage is in the negatives of zero. ” Liam said with dismay. “I can possibly save the man but it will be a long and tedious process. But you can terminate the option for an operation. captain? But I will abide by your decision captain. ” Liam said flatly to the officer as he fell silent. “I will go to my office to await your decision. Sir!” As Liam left the main part of sickbay and head to the office for some quiet reflection.

Lt Jg Liam Batario - CMO

Captain Jones was torn. To do anything else would continue to violate the prime directive. But the Orion’s had already done that. The creature appeared to be able to understand a little..... “My name is Captain John P. Jones I am in charge of this ship and the crew. We have a rule, it’s called the prime directive. It states that we may not interfere in the evolution of any species.” Jones shivered at his next words but knew he must do what was required “My doctor may be able to heal you, but if he does I cannot allow you to go back to your people, you would be banned from ever seeing your planet again as they may be able to examine what we have done and change the course of your history forever.” Captain Jones took a deep breath.

“The other option is that I return you to your planet and people. But if I do, well… The doctor has stated you will not survive. But you will be returned to your home and your customs would take over.” Jones stared into the fading eyes of the alien, “It is your choice, I realize how difficult this would be, but you must make your mind up quickly as there is not much time to act either way.”

Jones stood with his eyes transfixed on the alien looking deeply into the dying creatures soul. This would be a moment that was burned into his dreams, or nightmares for the rest of his life. He slowly looked back to the doctor wondering exactly what he was thinking.

Captain Jones
CO

The doctor noticed the captain looking at him. He knew what it meant for the decision of the life or death of the creature because of the prime directive. He knew if the prime directive did not exist it would be easier on all but the directive saved more lives than it lost. Liam will have to face the fact it might end up being a lost cause. If we use the genotronic replicator we might be able to restore most or all missing parts. But this also crosses some lines for me because we might need a clone to restore the creatures life. Like dr phlox did on Nx-enterprise to help save the life of the chief engineer? but I am not sure if that crosses the line with the prime directive.” Liam said softly.
