Humans weren’t meant to be hurtling at 50 times the speed of light, in space, in a glorified metal tube, but they did. The number of things that could go wrong was limitless. Every year a dozen ships disappeared without explanation another dozen due to inexplicable ‘mechanical’ errors. It happened to ships big and small, Star-Fleet and independents without rhyme or reason… “I should have stayed on Earth” He couldn’t help but say aloud, while the other thoughts ran through the mind of the young ensign assigned to the science station of the Chimera.

His thoughts were prophetic as the Chimera’s shields snapped on, which was not exactly a correct term, since at warp a ship’s deflectors always were on to deflect micro–particles that a ship running even through the vacuum of space were bound to encounter. The shield surged to maximum power… a moment before the Chimera was rocked suddenly to port swerving radically as she tumbled out of warp.

OOC: The time is 22:42 hours. Please open a thread at the location you would be at 10:42 pm. You can be anywhere and with or without company. There are six missions within this Sim so don’t be worried about being somewhere unimportant.

GM

Right on cue, Talisse’s voice came over the comm filled with concern. =/\=Bridge, this is the Captain. What’s happening?=/\=

—CO Talisse

=^=We’ve been yanked out of warp!!=^= Then ensign literally had to yell to be heard over the warning and alarm claxons on the bridge. =^=And put at a full stop in under 1 second. If it weren’t for the inertial dampeners we’d be a stain on the front wall, I have injuries all over the bridge.... =^=

“Turn the alarms off… I can’t think,..”

Ensign Overwhelmed.
GM

=/\=Notify the XO and all department heads. I want them on the bridge or reporting to their departments immediately. I’m on my way, give me 5 minutes.=/\=

—CO Talisse

=^=I have the XO on the other line,=^= The ensign didn’t know who he should respond to first.

=^= Jen to Bridge. Secure general quarters. Initiate red alert. Shields up. Begin damage control reporting. ^=^ He paused then continued. =^= Focus Ensign. Shields up. Damage control reports. I will be there momentarily. =^=
Jen, XO

There was a pause as the ensign tried to coordinate about five thing more than he could handle. =^=I have the Captain on the other channel.=^=

“Shields,” The ensign called out.

“Negative sir, I have no response from the panel…” The ensign at the ops station kicked the floor board. It popped open incidentally… she just exhaled and looked into the darkened area. “No signal in any relay.”

“What, How is that even possible?”

The Ensign responded to the XO =^=I sent the command out, but I have negative response from any deck below 4. The Computer clicked on the shields before the incident… I think they are still on… Negative on the Red Alert below deck 4.=^=

It was a much longer trip than it should have been, none of the doors worked and she had to manually open each hatch would took minutes. When she finally climbed through the hatch in the floor at the back of the bridge she was both tired and dirty.

The Ensign looked grateful when the Captain popped her head through the hatch. It was one thing to sit in the big seat and move the ship from point A to B, but it was another to deal with the awe inspiring shock of a ship coming apart at the seams.

The Ensign turned, “Captain, we don’t have communication out of this section.” He glanced back to his board. “I know we have massive damage, but the computer isn’t giving out any reports further than decks 1-4 and compartment 8 and deck 24. (That was only a few dozen meters aft of the CIC).

GM

When Aurra finally stood on the bridge, she brushed her fingers over her uniform and hair. “Have you heard from Cmdr Jen or any of the department heads?” She walked quickly to the center chair and called up the computer interface on the right arm. Information was sketchy, to say the least. “Any idea what we hit?” She looked to the helm officer. “I need information gentlemen.”

“I had the XO on the line about five minutes ago. He wanted us to go to red alert and put the shields up, but I couldn’t confirm the order outside of decks 1 – 4 and the four sections around CIC. None of the other section heads have reported in. Ma’am.”

The ship was dead in space but there was no explanation as to why. Talisse his her combadge. =/\=This is the Captain. Engineering, I need a report.=/\= (OOC: did that go through?) She tried once more. =/\=Cmdr Jen, do you read me?=/\=

—CO Talisse

The static that returned from the engineering request was unsurprising. Commander Jen on the other hand could respond.

GM

=^= Yes Captain. I am on the way through tubes and ladders. The ship has established a particularly challenging maze of force fields to dodge. I’m still several decks away and encountering wounded along the way that I’m directing into triage groups to help one another. I believe I am in the vicinity of Engineering and will pass through the barracks as well at deck 20. =^=

His voice sounded strained and hollow as though he were in a place that echoed.
- Jen, XO

=/\=I understand, Cmdr. My trip to the bridge wasn’t a straight shot either.=/\= Aurra thought about what Jen was dealing with trying to get there and was glad her journey had been a little easier than his was turning out to be. =/\=Cmdr, we don’t have communication to much of the ship from here and there is massive damage throughout the Chimera. I haven’t been able to get through to engineering and everything from deck four and below is unresponsive. If you happen upon an engineer, bring him to the bridge with you.=/\=

—CO Talisse

Jen hopped to a deck and was happy to be out of another tube. He was in engineering territory so technically he should be able to spit and hit an engineer. Or at least he hoped so. But the nice part about engineering was that it was not just open but that it spanned whole decks. He would have quicker access to ladders and maybe even internal engineering lifts. That put a spring in his step as he closed the distance to Engineering.

=^= I’ll find one. And will do one better Captain. I’ll be on Deck 20 very shortly. There we can break out the battle stores that includes field comms that every marine gets to communicate on the battlefield. Independent and individually powered. I’ll get the units to sweep the ship and bring a comms unit with me to the CIC and form search parties and recce units. =^= Technically anyone there worth their salt had better have been getting ready for that already or he’d be having them doing push ups in packs full of sand.
Jen, XO
OOC: This would be a good opportunity for the CE and our battalion folks to play a NE in engineering and barracks.

There was a sudden squealing of metal against metal and anyone looking to see what the sound was would see the Caitian Rear Admiral collapsing back against the door jam of the Flag Officer office after presumably dragging the door open. She leaned there for a few moments before catching her breath and looking out over the CIC.
Squinting her eyes she looked for the CO.
“Status? What hit us?” She asked.

Rear Admiral M’Ressa

The ensign glanced at the admiral and blanched slightly. “I, we, don’t know the computer hit the alert and raised the shields just a split second before we crash stopped. Sir.”

Jen made it to the CIC .. eventually, though not before the Admiral. It wasn’t a pleasant trip however he had what he had wanted, and what he had left behind. He came with others in tow: two engineers, a marine platoon medic and comms corporal, along with three comms units and an extra battery. He noticed the Admiral there; the bridge was quite bereft of the junior ranks leaving him nearly as the junior officer there. That was fine. He had things to do. His training was on high level and at the ranks level and right now the ranks needed to get moving.

“Captain, Admrial” he said, once he and the others had crawled out of the tubes and onto the bridge. His shoulder was aching more prominently now, but he had felt worse. Rubbing it as he looked about the large room he pointed to where the others should be. Once the dust had settled on things he was going to get the medic to look at that. However, more was at stake. “Comms are down. Marines are spreading out in sections to the ship with portable comms to areas to make contact and assess the ship. Engineers are still working damage control. I hope to have some answers soon.”

He turned to the comms corporal who was awaiting orders. “Set up here and monitor traffic from the sections. Report on ten minute intervals.” To the engineers he said, “Learn what you can here now about the ship and its status. I want to know what we can and can’t do. What we can and can’t see.”

OOC: No marine has made it to the bridge… so you don’t know they are doing anything yet. Although it is reasonable they will connect the sections of the ships, I kind of wanted to role play it.
OOC: You had said that I could pick up engineers and get to the CIC, and the marines are between engineering and CIC so figured I could pick up a couple there as I had to go through them to get there. I know that things aren’t very organized at the moment and didn’t want to imply that they were, only that they are getting there :) There are just two. :)

Activating his comms unit he tuned it to the ship frequency, hoping to get the CE or someone in engineering proper. =^= Jen to Engineering. I want a team to give me a status on the warp core. I want another team to make way to the fusion generators. Get them going. Acknowledge.=^=

He looked to the Captain as he changed tacks. =^= Jen to Flight. CAG or any pilots that are there and can hear me report in. I want birds in space. We’re blind here. You need to be our eyes and our protection. I don’t care if you need to take a can opener to the hull to get them out. I need eyes. Acknowledge. =^=

“Force fields up all over Captain,” Jen reported. “It took me a while to get down. Power issues. Comms malfunctions. A lot of injuries. The marines are using tactical comms units to fan out to give us some kind of network. Further orders?” His uniform was hardly pristine at this point and he felt that he’d have been better off in fatigues. At least they ‘look’ better mussed up.
- Jen

M’Ressa listened to the XO’s status update and growled in frustrated concern as she pushed herself off the doorjamb and carefully made her way down the short stairwell to the main deck. “Were we attacked? Was that a weapon’s hit that hit us or did we just stop suddenly?” She asked as she approached the CO and XO. While she waited for a response her quick mind listed the aggressive species in the area. Most notable of course were the Romulans but lawless Klingons were not unknown. Also the nebula in the Infinite Fleet was also known to harbor various raiders and other lawless sorts.

M’Ressa

“Unlikely an attack,” Jen said. His antennae were moving showing the underlying anxiety while he himself exhibited little. “If it was an attack we’d be dead by now. No enemy would cripple us and then leave us. If they wanted to board us we’d still be dead. It has taken us this long to get here where they would have beamed in and waited for us to arrive.” They’d have also seen signs of any boarding along the way. “That does not mean that we have not struck some kind of mine or other spatial ordinance, or an otherwise undetected spatial anomaly. Shy of being able to look out the window to see that is why I want birds in space.”

Taking the pack Kate opened the back panel and ran it through its usual startup sequence. She set the pack to one of the standard emergency frequencies, hopefully someone in CIC was listening. Because if comms weren’t working, it was possible that they had turned to focusing on something else. Turning the power of the unit up to max, she activated the comm channel.

=^= CIC this is Captain Hawkins. Do you copy? =^=

MCapt Hawkins - A CO Commander

Jen’s comm crackled. He moved to it and switched it to transmit. =^= CIC here. Just getting established Captain. What is your status? Over. =^= Ultimately the Captain would have something to say in this but right now they needed to know where the troops were. Security would be doing their own things. So much - too much - of the ship was silent and they needed to at the very least get help to those who needed it while divining what was going on.
- Jen. XO

=^= Good to hear from you CIC. My Company is a bit beat up, but just a few scrapes and bruises. Sitrep, you are the first communication we’ve had outside of this deck. We resorted to one of our shore to ship comm units. A Company is securing the deck and getting geared up. Over. =^=
