The worst thing about being a pilot was the inconsistent schedule. As a squad leader, things were a little more consistent than usual, but even then, it was not the regular nine to five job.

Flight training had been over for an hour. Chief Simmons had come and gone, and so had Snoopy, Java, Charlie, and Smoke, and all their birds’ respective crew and crew chiefs. Sloan had stayed back to chat for a few minutes before heading out, and Badger had taken off the moment the bird had parked. Something about a date. Malcolm had CAG duties waiting for him, and even though it was not terribly late, she knew he had an early morning the next day and didn’t want to bother him. So she had stayed back, glasses perched on her nose as she made a few adjustments to the Lady of Steel, her cherished Ranger-class vessel.

First she felt it. Even though every bird was secure in place by a stasis field, the jolt and subsequent tilt of the mothership did not come without consequences, as her unstrapped body was violently thrown from her chair and into the side of her cockpit. Her glasses flying from her face and landing somewhere under the main console. Then she heard it, a loud clang on the starboard side of her vessel. Something had slid through the deck and hit her ship.

As she tried to get herself back on her feet, Eleanor could hear noises around the hangar. Tools falling off from storage, ammo loaders sliding down the space… she could only hope the stasis fields would hold or Wing 399 would lose most of their ships, and probably half of its personnel. Flight operations never stopped, and even if she was lucky enough to be inside a ship, there were plenty of people that weren’t.

The internal lights went out for a moment and only the glow of the force field and mini tractor beams that held the ships in place were the only illumination for a second. Then the light flickered back on slowly… filling the room with a disappointingly faint light.

Without missing a beat, Carnegie climbed into her chair and strapped herself to the seat. As a warp flyer, Eleanor had a bet on what just had happened, so better safe than sorry. Tapping her commbadge her first call was to the CAG. =/\= Carnegie to Dawkins. What’s going on? You better tell the Fleeters our ships are not prepared for a drop out of warp of this dimension!!! =/\= and the second was to Flight Ops three decks above her. =/\= Flight Ops. This is Carnegie. What’s the status on the stasis fields? =/\= She could only hope, the calls would go through.

CPT Carnegie, Recon Squad CO

=^=CAG this is Flight, I’ve got red lights across the board. The fields are on the batteries, and the batteries are draining rapidly… faster than any projections I’ve seen… 20 minutes before the entire section is down and if that happens,=^= He left the question hanging in the air.

He could hear his voice yell in the background, “Get on the mechanical tie downs. Check each bird… and get the injuries to sick bay… watch the ordinance on the ground.”

GM

=A= Flight Ops, this is the CAG. I’m heading down. Clear the Bay of all non-essential personnel, recall the staff and get all DC (OOC: Damage Control) Teams into the Bay ASAP. Have the Flight Crews lock down the Birds. manually. If power is spotty, the last thing we need is the ship to take another roll like that and the damn Tactors not be on. We could lose half the Wing! CAG out!=A=

A moment later, Carnegie’s comm chirped. =A= Dawkins to Carnegie… Ellie, I’m heading down now....=A= He was breathing heavy and sounded like he was running at full tilt. =A=… are you OK!? Where the hell are you?!=A=

Dawkins, CAG

The flight officer looked down the launch tube. He tilted his head. “Garner… James… take a tricorder down the deck. I wonder if we can get the birds of the deck.” You couldn’t hit the side of the landing bay… if you weren’t in the landing bay. Of course that would require two things, a clear deck, which they didn’t have yet and free and open space to maneuver which they had no evidence of either.

As the lights flickered and came back fainter than before, Eleanor peaked outside through her cockpit. Color blindness had taken away her dream of being a fighter pilot. However, it had made her a very good recon one, mostly because the disability that many called a hindrance allowed her to spot things regular color-sighted people could not. And when the light was faint she had a harder time distinguishing between certain colors, but she had better night vision than most.

Unstrapping herself from her seat, Carnegie tapped her commbadge. =/\= Carnegie to Flight Ops, I’m two decks below you, I’ll grab whoever I can find around the deck and I will start to lock down the birds manually on this end. We’ll need all the help we can get. Carnegie out. =/\=

=^=We’re lashing them down with physical ties now, but that’s never going to hold. Unless you get me some power for the stasis field we are going to lose half our birds… and I’m not going to ask the Chief of the deck to put them back together. =^=

For a moment, Carnegie seemed confused. Tapping her commbadge again, she addressed Flight Ops. =/\= Uh, Flight, I’m a pilot, not an engineer… I’m securing my bird and the ones around her. I would advise you to bring this up with the CAG or the Chief Engineer. Rerouting power is out of my scope, and the time that it will take me won’t make us go anywhere… Carnegie out. =/\=

And a second time as she started to climb down her ship’s previously lowered hatch. =/\= Malcolm, I’m fine. I was just making some adjustments to my bird. I’m getting out to lock her down before the fields switch off, and I’m dragging whoever I can find with me. Get to Flight Ops. Don’t worry about me. Carnegie out. =/\=

With that, Eleanor jumped the few bars that were left on the Lady of Steel’s hatch ladder and her feet landed on the deck with a soft metallic sound. As she started to pull the ladder back up and closed the hatch behind her, Carnegie scanned her surroundings for any member of the crew that happened to be around and could assist her in starting to switch each one of the ships to their mechanical tie downs.

CPT Carnegie, Recon Squad CO

“Is anybody here?” Her voice echoed under the eerie lights that now filled the deck. Crossing the pad her vessel was parked at, she opened the storage cabinet and started to pull a set magnetic tie downs that would go over the ship’s landing struts.

The deck was crewed consistent with the correct number of staff on at this period of time. The number of active crew was lessened by injuries and again by people tending to those injuries. However when Eleanor called a few crew turned to respond to her. “What’cha need Captain?”
GM

“Anyone available…” Carnegie said, now starting to put the tie downs on her ship. “I need you to start placing magnetic tie downs on each of the birds. It will buy us some time until we can find a way of getting more power to the stasis fields. Otherwise, our birds will be toast. And I’m sure neither the CAG or the fleeters are going to be happy about it.” She paused for a moment as she finished the job on the Ranger-class vessel. “Also, how many injured do we have on deck?”

CPT Carnegie, Recon Squad CO

“Is everyone alright?” Kate called out as her team forced the door to the flight deck open. As it finally opened up far enough, the two scouts were through the door and did a quick sweep of the immediate area.

“This is Captain Hawkins. Is anyone hurt?”

The closest crew member laughed. “Everyone is hurt sir… everyone.” The injuries varied in type and magnitude. What both helped and hurt was the general space in the launch bay. The crew members often didn’t hit anything since there was tons of space, conversely there a lot of space gain velocity and hit something.

Turning around, she looked back at team as they made their way onto the flight deck. “Comm’s, radio HQ and advise them that we’ve reached the flight deck.”

MCapt Hawkins - A Co Commander

Carnegie turned around at the sound of the door being forced open, and then at the newcomers’ voice. “Captain Hawkins.” There was a slight note of relief in her tone, but it disappeared almost immediately. Approaching the woman, she spoke firmly. “I’m Captain Carnegie. Recon. There are injured members on deck but I still haven’t managed to get a number. In fact, we are very much isolated in here. Power is not going to hold the stasis fields for long and we are trying to place magnetic tie downs on as many birds as we can, or they will take flight if we don’t.” She paused for a moment to catch her breath. “We have been very much isolated in here. I feel that there’s been some miscommunication between us, the CAG, and Flight Ops. What is happening?”

“We are still trying to figure it out Captain. Power is wonky all over the ship, with a lot of sections cut off from one another. We only managed to cut through the interference on comms, because we broke out our field gear. I’ve got Charlie and Delta squads with me here though. I sent Alpha squad to the ready rooms, and Beta squad is heading for the maintenance bays.”

Kate turned back towards her men, “Charlie Squad, start checking out the injured. See who is the worst, and get them prepped to be moved if needed. Delta, lend these flyboys a hand strapping their birds to the deck. The last thing we need is one flying right at us.”

=^= CIC to Captain Hawkins. SitRep requested. What is your status on spreading out on captured decks? Have you penetrated engineering or gained engineers to assist you? CIC over. =^=
Corporal Gettinger

Kate started motioning for the handset when she turned at the sound of claws hitting the deck.

Suddenly the sound of claws on decking was heard as two female Caitian’s came running down the corridor on all fours, claws out to give them traction. As they neared the two rose again to show that they were the Rear Admiral and Chief Science Officer.
“Status?” M’Ressa called out as she approached the group.

Kate snapped to attention and saluted the Admiral. “Ma’am. Charlie and Delta squad just arrived here on the flight deck with me. Alpha squad is headed to the ready rooms, and Beta squad is headed for the maintenance bays. We were just getting a status update when you arrived.”

MCapt Hawkins - A Co Commander

“Excellent. Inform the Commander that his Chief Science Officer and I have made it down here too. Are any of the shuttles flyable? The Commander has ordered the Lieutenant and I to get out there and get a look at the situation and get some readings.”
