There was a sudden whine across every deck of the ship… it sounded like bulkheads literally crushing underneath their own weigh, but all of the pressure was coming from the outside. The ships gravity and other life support went to zero as the computer attempted to steal power from every other system to repower the shields and the internal force-fields.

The lights and other auxiliary systems dimmed to almost zero as the computer activated the red alert klaxons.

The whining ceased after a few moments as the lights and life-support returned.

GM

“Jen automatically gripped a console as gravity was lost, his ears and antennae taking in the sounds. He had not expected the response, though he was far from surprised by it. Quietly he held his breath through the klaxons and the lighting until things were restored. As things restored, Jen slowly let go. =^= Engineering, report. What did we learn from this? =^= He was not interested in an excuse or consequence. Something happened and while the experiment failed they learned something from it about what was going on. Jen turned to the others. “I’m thinking the ship is playing Atlas .. holding us up and we are not the wiser. Yet.”
- Jen

Suddenly a Caitian voice crackled over the comms,

Tapping the comms button M’Ressa decided to see if she could try and reach the bridge. =^= M’Ressa to Chimera. Chimera do you copy?=^= She commed.

Rear Admiral M’Ressa

Katelyn let out a string of curse words that would have made even the most daring blush as she felt the ship’s reaction to her orders. The crackle of the comms interrupted her brief tantrum and she left Jen to strategize with engineering as she attempted to respond to M’Ressa’s message.

=/\= This is Captain Jacobs, Admiral. =/\=

Jacobs, CO

The ensign was an ensign for a reason, he tilted his head as he looked at the readings. =^=My guess Captain, is the power is going to the structural integrity fields at a magnitude that is not what they are designed for – if its taking ‘warp eight’ amount of power. =^= He exhaled. =^=I can’t imagine that’s the whole story… more power has to be going somewhere=^=

Ensign Engine.

OOC: I’m holding off on a crosspost until the GM gives it a thumbs up or thumbs down.
OOC: GM did in the other thread. Gene
OOC: Comms from fighters, shuttles, and marines work…

=^= Alpha Company to CIC. We are working on getting that bird in the air. The Captain wants to know where you need us next. Over. =^=

MCapt Hawkins - A Co Commander (crosspost)

Riloc half floated to before grabbing the console. ” I suppose I’ll wait to get to an arms locker till my feet are on the floor.” He smiled.

CoS

“We need to figure out where that power is going,” Katelyn muttered again before responding to the hail.

=/\= I’d like a visual survey of the ship to see if there are any clues as to what happened and what’s going on now. Sensor sweeps of the area should help too. Finally, see if you can get into contact with Starfleet. Obviously, our comms are down here. =/\=

She took a break after listing off all of the orders. With the Chimera out of commission, that bird was their eyes and ears for the foreseeable future.

Jacobs, CO

While the Captain was communicating with the troops he, in his irony, was about to talk with the Admiral. =^= CIC to Ranger. Good to hear from you Admiral. What is your status and what support personnel are there with you in the bay? The. .. alarms you hear were caused when we attempted to reduce the warp engines that are at full output, but we do not yet know where. If your sensors can give us perspective we and engineering will be most grateful. =^=

He moved closer to the Captain. “We don’t have main computer access, though the ship is responding to an emergency it sees. That is my guess. Does it seem to you that there is an external pressure that is threatening to crush us and the force fields are keeping that at bay?”

Katelyn finished her communication soon enough to overhear the XO’s and couldn’t help but laugh slightly. They were going to have to get their ducks in a row if they planned to make any progress with figuring out what the heck was going on with the Chimera. She stared at Jen pensively and then offered a nod. “That could be a reasonable explanation,” she commented, but then shook her black curly head in frustration. “I hope that we can get some data from the other craft because at this point, I have no idea what happened and no idea how to fix it.”

Jacobs, CO

Jen’s finger tapped at a console that was flickering and had not yet come back to life since the latest upset. His antennae moved with his tapping. If the threat was from without hen could they send a shuttle out there? His first considerations was that space was space. If the threat was from outside … “Captain,” he began. It was going to take some getting used to with these ranks. For too long he had, with the marines, seen a Captain as of lower rank than himself. Many changes .. “I would recommend the Admiral take as many scans as they can before going out. If there is a gravitational anomaly outside that is affecting us as it is, it may do worse to the craft. We simply don’t know enough right now. We have scores of craft but it may be suicide to send them out until we know more.” He frowned. “A probe at this time would be very nice.”
- Jen

OOC: Very interesting logic. The GM approves.

Katelyn nodded her head in agreement. She had been focused on what to do after the ship got away from the Chimera, but she hadn’t considered that it would be a source of data before that as well. She enabled the communications again to append it to her previous order.

=/\= Start the scans as soon as the bay doors open. When will it be ready to depart? =/\=

Jacobs, CO

OOC: Leaving an opening for CIC to be informed about the launch issues.

OOC: Er, never mind, just realized this wasn’t crossposted. Adding it in here…

=^=Commander, there appears to be a both a warp and force field surrounding the ship. We are unable to launch through it.=^= M’Ressa reported to the bridge before looking back to Sheriye.

As she heard the communication, Katelyn’s eyes raised to meet Jen’s. “Well, that clarifies that we are actually at warp,” she commented, feeling a slight bit of relief that the computer was reporting something correctly. The relief quickly faded, though, as she realized that now they needed to figure out why the ship was doing that…

Jacobs, CO

Jen’s antennae halted in mid motion. That was unexpected. “Are the engines engaged for propulsion?” He mused, his strategic mind working. “The ship needs to form a warp field before going into warp. We may be static with the field intact. We did come to a rather quick halt, or the bruises I have from it tells me we did. There is power going to every force field on this ship, inside and out. Engineering can’t give us much more. The Admiral May be able to help with scans. The computer AI is what knows the most. I suggest we make a push for the computer core and speak with it directly.”
Jen, XO

“Might be useful. I am still concerned about the bogeys the marines say they saw.” He gestured over to the weapons lockers. ” At the moment we are sitting ducks, I don’t want to have phasers floating around the CIC.”

He let go of the console and gently floated over to the locker and entered his security codes. “However Commander, my first duty right now is keeping you and the CIC secure.” He pulled out a phaser rifle and a side arm and pushed it towards the crew in CIC.

“Just in case.” He said as he checked the power levels on both his weapons.

CoS

“How long have you been on board, Lt?” Jen asked the security chief. As much as he was fostering the need to keep them safe, with the transport system they’d made in the ‘tunnels’ - which may or may not affect their structural integrity - they could populate the CIC with a full section of armed marines inside minutes now. However, he would not reduce the Lt’s zeal with that, even though he likely knew it himself. He was there and the marines weren’t and he had a job to do.

However, that much said, both the CO and he had not been aboard as long and was not as intimately familiar with the ship as the security chief would be - and if they needed to trail to the computer core to have a direct chat with the ships’ AI then he would be the one who was the invaluable resource at the moment.
- Jen, XO

Davon was busying himself with his weapons checks. “This is my first mission with this version of the Chimera. I arrived during the refit. Sir”

He hostlered his phaser apparently happy with its functionality. “That’s why I was unsure if we have weapons lockers in the CIC. Before all this,” he gestured to the floating rifle, “I was reviewing the ship symatics making notes off all the lockers and was beginning a inventory of security issued arms.”

It was then he realised his tone before. “Apologies Commander I did not mean to imply your job does not involve maintaining crew safety. I feel pretty useless locked in here.”
