Katelyn kept up a decent pace as she and the COS made their way through the ship, somewhere between a jog and a brisk walk. Soon enough, she was striding across the hanger bay to the shuttle. She noted with frustration that they had been unsuccessful at launching it yet, but it was fortunate in a way since it would allow her to be able to easily enter the ship.

Nose Art, as it was still called, was a practice that had originated centuries earlier with German pilots during the First World War. And while it was many times frowned upon, it was a tradition that was very much still alive with current Ranger crews. As such, Carnegie’s ship was easy to spot in the middle of the remaining Ranger-class vessels that composed the Reconnaissance Squadron, mostly as it was the only one sporting a large Pittsburgh Steelers logo with the words ‘Lady of Steel’ painted on its nose.

OOC: That’s the reason it was frowned on… people could identify the unit by the art and then the enemy would know which squadrons were where doing whatever.

OOC: Sigh, I suppose I have to continue for the good of the ship… but normally, the Steelers logo would be… hrmph.

There was no reply to the Captain’s comm. Instead, after a few moments of silence, a hatch opened, and from under the ship’s fuselage a small ladder lowered, allowing access to the vessel’s cockpit. Inside there were three stations. Carnegie sat at the middle one, her chair swiveled backwards to face the steps. From behind her, her console was lit up in unpleasantly bright orange, purple, and blue hues, instead of the subdued LCARS display colors. To the right, the Chimera’s Chief Science Officer sat at the Sensor Ops console, and to the left Admiral M’Ressa sat at the Engineering console.

When the Chimera’s CO climbed on board, she was met with a tired look from the Marine Captain. Being the only crew member on board wearing a flight suit instead of a Starfleet uniform, Carnegie was easily identifiable.

“Welcome on board, Captain. I hope you don’t mind cozying up.” Eleanor’s tone was playful, but it was clear that behind the playfulness was a high degree of annoyance.

As the hatch opened up, Katelyn easily scaled the ladder, muscle memory taking over quickly from her own days as a pilot. Assuming the COS would follow, she pushed herself through the hatch and squeezed over to one side to ensure that there was room for him as well. Her attention was briefly distracted looking around the interior of the ship. She hadn’t had as much time as she’d liked to familiarize herself with the Chimera and its various capabilities, nor spend time on the craft it contained – this was one of the side effects of command that she liked the least, especially commanding a vessel as large as the Chimera. A toss of her black curls later, she forced a friendly smile across her own tired features. “We’ll make do. It would be best if Lieutenant Sheriye and Lieutenant Riloc headed to the computer core to see what they can do there anyway.” She nodded at the two officers in turn as she spoke their names and squeezed to the side to allow them to exit the shuttle.

“What’s our status here, Captain?” she inquired, hoping that her slightly deferential tone would smooth over any rumpled feelings. It wasn’t every day that the CO of the entire ship came storming onto your vessel and she could empathize with the situation, but frankly, getting the ship back up and running was far more important in her book.
