Contemplating food now, he picked up the shiny new metal cane and limped back into the dead sickbay. As he considered if anyone actually worked at these times around here he caught sight of the prone form of Jacobs. With a small inaudible sigh he lifted the cane as to not make much noise and quietly crossed to his new verbal sparring partner. He stood over her and did a quick visual examination then opened the tricorder and scanned her.

Katelyn sighed softly as if she could sense his examination and the tricorder’s scan in her dreams. Her pulse and breathing rate were reflective of someone in REM sleep. Both her right femur, left radius, and left clavicle showed signs of recent (within the past few months) fractures that had been handled by someone who clearly did not have the background of most Starfleet medical officers. It was likely she had been in some lingering pain as she had carried his belongings on the base, but she had shown no display. The sleeve of jacket had pulled up where her arms were crossed to show mostly faded bruising on her wrists. Her weight was within acceptable range for her height, although she clearly hadn’t eaten any time recently, which was likely why the alcohol she had consumed with Ryley had finally knocked her right out on the biobed. As he finished his scans, though, her breathing rate and pulse started to rapidly ascend as her dreams tumbled into foggy memories of the last several months of her life.

Ryley made a sort of clicking sound with his tongue. As her vitals shifted he fetched the osteoregenerator again and a hypospray. He returned and considered her once more. Clearly she was uncomfortable and needed treatment. He could treat her now or restrain her but that didn’t really seem fair. With a sigh he rolled his entire head around on his neck and instead put the various implements down, pulled a rolling stool towards himself sat down. He rested his chin on the handle of his new cane and waited for her to come fully back to consciousness.

Ryley didn’t have to wait long. The combination of the slight sounds of him rustling about, the activation of her brain from the dream, and her weak telepathy sensing the presence had her flinging herself back upright within moments. She whirled around, clearly startled, but froze when she caught sight of the CMO on his stool. A murmur of several inventive curse words slipped out of her lips as she stared at him for a few moments before making a show of running her fingers through her hair and putting it back into order from her accidental nap. “Well, you look more presentable. Could still use the pips,” she commented, tugging on the hem of her jacket to straighten it. “I’ll leave you to terrify your new staff and figure out the best hiding places for your alcohol of choice.”

Ryley continued to watch her, he didn’t make any sudden movements just raised his eyebrows. “Why don’t you hop up and let me look at you and treat your wounds. In return I’ll show you how to use the regenerator properly so if you need to next time you won’t have to get my help unless it’s a bad break.” He glanced around. “Sickbay’s empty…no one here to see and then you get a nice rubber stamp that says fit for duty and all that admin nonsense.”
