The glare on Katelyn’s face spoke volumes about her opinion of Ryley’s thoughts as she slid down off the biobed with practiced ease, not wincing this time as she impacted lightly with the deck of the ship. “Are you satisfied, your highness?” she commented, her tone shifting back to more playfully snarky than just plain cranky.

Ryley raised his eyebrows, the corner of his mouth turning upwards. “Not really. I’m hungry and lost on a ship I don’t know with people I don’t know.” He leaned on the new cane and puffed air between his cheeks. “You don’t know where I can get my hands on a burger do you?”

Katelyn rolled her eyes at Ryley’s “not really” and reached for her black leather jacket she had tossed aside during his examination and repairs. She shrugged it back on over her tank, leaving it unzipped for now. “I suppose I do owe you dinner,” she remarked. “Crew Lounge, Observation Lounge, or Holodeck?” She smirked briefly and didn’t wait for a response. “Observation Lounge. It turns out you don’t need a reservation when you’re with the CO. Let’s go.” She spun quickly on her heel to walk toward the Sickbay door but then remembered her companion and, as much as it pained her, slowed slightly to allow him to catch up.

He limped to her side again, having been lefr behind at her sudden spurt of speed. “Oh dont slow down on my account Kiddo…” he muttered at her and took the chance to look around as he walked. After a few minutes he added. “This ship is bloody huge…”

Katelyn rolled her eyes at Ryley’s first comment but responded sincerely to his second, a twinge of doubt entering her typically overly confident speech pattern. “Yes, it really is.” She continued the walk in silence after that, with them arriving at the observation lounge soon enough. The pair was quickly shown to a table, embodying the idea that rank had its privileges and Katelyn gratefully slid into the chair, resisting the urge to collapse forward as the exhaustion of the last few hours… weeks… coursed through her.

Ryley let the silence hang between them and when they were seated proceeded to order enough food for at least two of him and a doggy bag. He knew he’d regret it soon enough when it all hit his stomach but he hadn’t been able to eat whatever he wanted for a while and seemed to be making up for lost time. “You wanna talk about what’s eating you?”he asked in The sort of awkward way a person who isn’t used to asking that sort of thing asks.

Katelyn just stared at Ryley as he placed his order and then followed up with a Scotch and a chef salad for herself. “Hungry much?” she commented, ignoring his question entirely.

Jacobs, CO

“Avoidance much?” He asked mimicking her tone, “You’d be hungry too if you’d been eating what I have the last six months.” As some dishes ended up I front of him he took a bite from a sandwich and chewed.
