Mia smiled “This is Blue Note 4.” She said “Blue Note 3 is on Outpost 42, Blue Note 2 is in San Diego and the original Blue Note is in San Francisco. They are all owned and operated by my husband, Nicky Murphy.” She said, her eyes clouding for a moment as she thought about her husband “We’ve been open here for almost five years.” She added “We play a mixture of blues, jazz, and classic rock from the 1950’s and 60’s.”
“I’m not familiar with that era, and I’m guessing you mean Terran music too?” Avalise asked.
“As you can see we also serve food. You can get your usual pub food or a four star dinner. Depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.” Mia added as a small blonde haired child came up to her “Mama, Beth said I had to ask for ice cream.” She looked nothing like Mia “After dinner. Have an apple now.” She said and took the child by the hand “You’re being rude…what do you do when you see Mama talking with a new person and you interrupt?” Mia asked the five year old.
The child looked down “I’m sorry, Mama, ma’am. I should have waited until you were done talking.” She said and gave Mia a small smile and then walked around to the other side of the table “I’m Mitzi Murphy. I’m 5 years old and I have a brother and a sister that are six months old. What’s your name?” She asked politely extending her hand to Rendana.

The Haliian smiled at the girl. “Well hello Mitzy, my name is Avalise,” she said as she shook the child’s hand in the Terran manner. She knew a fair amount of Human customs due to her upbringing on Vega Colony, so it didn’t faze her the way it might others who weren’t Human. She did find it curious that there was an expectation that non-Humans would know Human customs, like shaking hands, but as she had learned over the years it had a lot to do with the history of the Federation and Earth’s prominence in those events.

Mitizi smiled “Where are you from?” She asked pointedly realizing that Rendana was not from earth “I have a brother and a sister. They’re in the office. ” She said “Would you like to meet them?” Mitzi asked without thinking.
“Uhhh…” Avalise said, blinking at the girl.
Mia sighed “Mitizi we’ll introduce them later. Let momma and Ms. Rendana finish our conversation first then we can meet Nicky and Ema”

“I’d love to meet them later,” the COO said with a wink to Mitzy.
Turning back to Mia, Rendana smiled. “To answer your question, I was born on Halii but spent a good chunk of my formative years on Vega. Had the full Federation experience, as it were.”

Mia nodded “What else do you want to know about the operations department?” She asked as Rendana as Mitzi sat down next to them and started doing her homework.

“Whatever you can tell me,” Avalise said with a light laugh. “I’m just trying to settle in as quickly as possible. Any staff issues I should know about besides the general shortage?”

Mia thought for a moment “NE Garrison needs a lot of encouragment. She doubts her ability to do her job. She’s also very young.” Mia said as she thought about the crew “Everyone else is pretty solid and know the ins and outs of the station.” She said “You will need to watch gamma shift, they tend to prefer to slack off than actually do their jobs and that leaves the day shift to play catch up. Two of them I’ve already put on report, NE Graves and NE Devons. Other than that…everything runs pretty smoothly.”
