“Not for me, I wanted you to find something that you would like to wear since you have to wear it.” Rinker tilted his head. “I guess I could pick it for you, but if you don’t like it you have to pretend or risk hurting my feelings.” He looked about. He stopped after a moment as he noted she was teasing him.

Off to one side was a display of necklace and earring sets. There, she found a rather delicate white gold necklace with a small drop pendant of a clear round cut stone and a rounded square blue stone. It was coupled with a set of matching earrings, just as simple in design. The jeweler rushed over and began to describe the stones. “The top one is a 1.5 carat high grade round cut diamond from Earth Colony 2. Mined ethically of course. And the blue stone is actually a 4 carat carbochon Kyanite from the Folnar jewel plant on Folnar III. The color variance is what makes that particular stone so lovely. The necklace comes with the matching earrings; .5 carat round diamonds and 2 carat carbochon kyanite respectively. All in all, a delicate and beautiful set.”

He smiled winningly at the couple after his sellers spiel. “Well,” She said turning to Cliff. “I wouldn’t be able to be choked with that chain. Far too delicate.” The salesman’s smile wavered. Was she complimenting his work or was she not?. “I would like to try that on please.”

“Its pretty. It does kind of scream Rinker… and not being killed by it is a bonus.”

The salesman smiled once again and brought forth the small and delicate chain, clasping it around her neck so that the pendant hung just before her cleavage. She looked in the mirror and smiled. “What do you think?”

Rinker growled a low in his throat. There was no way for Briony to tell if it was due to the necklace or the cleavage. “My mind has been stunned into thoughtlessness by the view. However, if I had the ability to speak, I would be very happy to buy that for you…” He turned slightly…

She laughed, unable to help herself from enjoying him outwardly. There were just times that Heathcliff Rinker could just bring a smile to her face and a laugh to her heart whether she wanted to show it or not. He had a way with words that made her amused and his obvious attraction to her made her feel important and loved. Her fingers gently brushed the blue stone. It felt cool, but not overly so.

“If the price is right.....” Rinker had been pretty loose with his money. Not a significant problem since he did well and had very few expenses, on the other hand he didn’t like to be taken. It wouldn’t take much effort to figure out the right price using the computer.

Rinker

The salesman, not wanting to upset the Captain of the Magellan and the man with her, did not charge more than was necessary to make a normal amount of profit that no one could deny he should make. He wasn’t about to swindle them only to have his life made miserable here on the starbase, or be kicked off permanently. When anything could technically be replicated, he valued his loyal customers like he valued his merchandise… with pride.

“Done and done,” He reached out to shake the saleman hand. Rinker had learned from years of being a therapist, a task that often was as basic as talking, knew that a fair price was relative to how people perceived the value of the service. And with such preparation, he graciously accepted the offered price. He made the necessary arrangements for payment.

“I know its petty… but I’d like to put it on you.” It was a silly request, she would have to take it off so he could put it back on her.

Rinker

She smiled and reached back to unclasp the necklace. After a few moments, she succeeded and gently handed it to him. “I don’t think that is petty. I find that it is more like a romantic gesture.” The vendor began placing the earrings in a beautiful box that would house the necklace as well while this interaction of his customers continued. He was discreet as he packaged up the beautiful set.

Rinker took the necklace back for a moment as he went through the motion of looping his hands about either side of her neck and returning the necklace where it began. It was indeed a small gentle clasp and it took a moment for this thicker fingers to grasp the little connector. As he had her ‘frozen’ in position he leaned in and started a brief nibble on her neck. Knowing she was not into public displays of affection he cut it shorter than he would have normally liked. He suspected she’d be a little annoyed, but he was an unknown on the ship and she could at least play it off a little.

Rinker.

He was right. She was a little annoyed. She was already stepping outside of her comfort zone in many ways this evening alone. She had done quite a few displays of affection throughout their night. She was obviously romantically linked with someone in plain view. She practically growled and turned her gaze specifically to his with a “Knock it off”look in them and fire behind it. Briony had definitely now been pushed past her limits on public affection. Perhaps it was the setting… the starbase where Rinker had yet to see her in an official capacity. Or maybe it was that she let it get this far, having been in a vulnerable state, but Briony’s steel was back in place.

They were in a relatively private place in a romantic moment. He couldn’t help himself, nor did he really want to. He had a slightly different view of decorum than Briony and off duty was off duty and as long they weren’t having some massive display he wasn’t too put out. On the other hand.. he knew Briony was more sensitive to that.

Rinker held his lips together firmly fighting away a smirk, but she could see the combination of amusement and guilt in his eyes. The closest analogy would be a child caught with his hand in a cookie jar, guilty… but not guilty.

The earrings, nestled in their box were placed on the counter. Briony took the box. “Shall we?”

“Ladies first.” Always the gentleman. He turned back to the owner for a moment. “Thanks… it was worth it.”

As the captain left the shop and Rinker complimented the purchase, the shop keeper grinned wildly and bowed his head repeatedly. “You are most welcome sir. I am always glad to cater to my customer’s every desire. To have you find a piece that is perfect for....” His voice was drowned out by the promenade and its citizenry going about their daily tasks as Heathcliff and Briony left the shop in their wake. No doubt the shop keeper continued his lavish thanks for several more moments before realizing there was no one left to hear them.

He walked with her for a moment and turned to face her so he could speak lower and know he was being heard. “I even missed you being angry with me.” He laughed slightly. “Its funny what you miss.”

Rinker

Briony’s eyebrows went up in surprise and then she laughed. She was relaxed, at ease in his presence and it made her look younger and more vibrant. She sighed in resignation at his attitude and shook her head while smiling ruefully. “You sir, love stirring the pot. Want to go back to my place and stir it some more?” Briony grinned and walked towards the turbolift.
