“I’m afraid that little boost of cool air in here, and warmth out there, won’t be coming as soon as we had hoped.” There was a sense of disappointment or perhaps displeasure in her voice, as she returned to the young docror, surveying the other patients as she moved about. Kneeling down beside one of the unconscious men, she pressed the back of her hand against his forehead, checking for a fever, in case that might be the cause of his unconsciousness. Discovering he was a bit warm, she pressed her fingers to his neck, checking for his heartrate. Frowning, she glanced over at the female NE TeWhiti had been helping, then back at the new one. “The temperature needs to be fixed fast, before someone dies because of it.”

“Agreed,” Aroha nodded, feeling a little disenhartened that there wasn’t going to be a quick fix solution anytime soon, “But sir, they’ve been given water when they need it, a couple have been doused with ice. I’m not entirely sure what else we can do,”

“Let’s change out the wetrags on everyone here, they’re bound to be mostly perspiration by now. We need to keep a close watch for fevers and elevated heartrates. Just in case one of them is heading towards having a headstroke.” She informed the opposing doctor, keeping her explanations brief, as she went back to checking patients for any signs of heat-related ailments.

Dr. Odraavi
CMO

“Yes sir,” Aroha said sharply, annoyed that she hadn’t thought of the wet rags before. She should have thought of it, but as a bead of sweat trickled down the side of her face she reckoned that the heat must be getting to her too. Ignoring it, she marched over to the replicators and demanded a two buckets of ice cold wet towels. The water sloshed as she moved and ever time a splash landed on her uniform, she releashed the refreshing feel of it. In no time at all she returned to the CMO and handed her a bucket. “Everyone I’ve checked so far have high temperatures, borardline fever but not quite. Not yet…” she trailed off, her eyes darting anywhere but the CMO,”Start with the worst ones?” She asked although she already guessed that the answer would be yes.

“Good!” Odraavi grinned over at the woman, the smile unfortunately far more feigned than she would have previously wished it to be. With its authenticity faltering with each passing moment, Nisihe did her best to maintain its vibrance. Bringing up a hand, she brushed away the sweat ready to pool down her dark skin. She could feel a slight lightheadedness as it held her swimming, reaching out for a sign of stability. Closing her eyes, she braved herself for several moments, rubbing the back of her neck. Shaking her head, she attempted to shake herself of the nausea, turning back to the people that mattered; her patients and her doctors. “And remember, Aroha: Don’t forget yourself.” She spoke her name in a gentle accent, snapping her fingers as she passed.

Aroha nodded sharply, though if it came down to it, the patients came first, the always came first. She wondered if the CMO felt the same.
She turned back to the NE she had given water to as she was the nearest patient, as Aroha treated her, her eyes opened sleepily, “Thank you,” she whispered. Aroha smiled gently, “We’re doing all that we can, just let me know if you needthing okay.” she promised. Wishing that there was more she could do.

Beside her, several other patients could use a hand, whether that was in comfort or in medical care. Raising his head, a young Bajoran boy leaned back against the biobed he was seated upon, his shirt dampened by the sweat perspirating against his skin. “Excuse me, Miss..?” He asked, his voice soft.

CMO and Bajoran Child

Aroha turned to where the voice had sounded from, a wave of dizziness washed over her for turning too fast, but she merely blinked it away reaching out for the child. “Miss Aroha,” she introduced, giving the child a smile, “How can I help you sir?” she asked pulling out her tricorder and doing a quick scan.

Ensign TeWhiti
Doctor

“My stomach doesn’t feel so good,” The boy was experiencing nausea from the heat. Holding his stomach, he closed his eyes for a few moments, allowing for the wave of nausea to pass through his system. “Kelume,” he finally added.

Kelume
Bajoran Boy

Aroha smiled kindly, “Well that’s not good at all Sir Kelume. Here take this and keep it on your head, it should make you feel a little cooler,” she pulled one of the cloths from out of the ice bucket and gently placed it on his head, holding it there until he held it with his own hand.Once she had her hand she quickly administered some anti-nausea medication. “That should help for a little while. You feel sick because you feel hot. So what I need you to do is keep holding this cloth on your head, and when it feels warm, let one of us doctors know so we can change it. Can you do that for me?”

Ensign TeWhiti
Doctor

Using both of his hands, he held the wet rag to his forehead, sighing in relief at the chill it brought to his skin, which felt like it was boiling from the inside. Kelume had never liked medication, especially not when it was administered in a hyprospray. For that single moment, he held his eyes tightly shut, not wishing to see the device. Once certain it was over, he opened one eye and glanced over. Nodding, he offered a boyish grin. “Thank you, Doctor.”

Kelume
Bajoran boy

Aroha matched his grin with one of her own, “You’re welcome. Keep that rag there, and I’ll grab you a glass of ice from the replicator,”

She turned around and made her way over to the replicator. “One glass of ice chips please,” she ordered. As the replicator complied, a bead of sweat travelled down her forehead and dripped off her eye. She reached up and wiped her brow with her arm. Once it was finished replicating, she quickly made her way back over to Kelume, and handed him the glass of ice chips, “These will help as well, you can either suck them or wait for them to melt, your choice. When I was younger, our town suffered a really bad drought. Every day was scortching hot, and cause I grew up on a farm my siblings and I were expected to help out. We used to take a cooler fill of these and suck on them as we worked to keep ourselves cool,” She said smiling fondly.

“Let me know if you need anything else okay?”

Ensign TeWhiti
Doctor

“I will..” The boy promised, before thanking the kind lady. Turning onto his side, one of those ice chips between his teeth, he laid his head down. Quietly, he tried to sleep, her story running through his mind.

Kelume.

Aroha turned away as Kelume fell asleep. Hoping that now that he had a rag and some ice-chips he’d rest easier than some of the other patients sleeping in sickbay. She resumed making her way around Sickbay, giving the cold wet rags to patients. Keeping a sharp eye out for someone that might need her more than the others.

OOC: You all seem to have this thread well in hand. Is there any support you need from me at this time? I may have missed something as I was catching up.

GM Wombat

OOC: We’ve been all right, but I hope I’m not alone when saying we could always use whatever twists or additions you have!
Trin

OOC: I’m with Trin, we can hold our own but who doesn’t love an extra twist or turn?

Chandel continued doing the rounds with the other patients, checking their readings with the tricorder and seeing to whatever their immediate needs were.

Counselor Chandel

For a second, Nisihe managed to catch up with the Counselor. “How are they doing?” She asked, but despite the pause in work, she was still glancing about in myriads of directions, to make sure people looked okay.

Dr. Odraavi

Most of the patients that were coming in from the other parts of the ship started to come at a higher rate. Probably from the systems being restored. They had a lot of dehydration and hypothermia. Bumps, bruises, lacerations, broken bones vertigo and at least one case of of a concussion.

GM Wombat

“Okay, people, back to work!” Odraavi called out, when the arrival of new patients began to incrase. “TeWhiti, get to mending those bruises, broken bones and lacerations, grab one or two others to help you; remember, the worst come first. NE Stocker and NLtJG Johnson, I need you on dehydration; NLt T’Lyr and NE Brox, on hypothermia– make sure they have blankets and even after treatment.” She ran down the list of the present medical officials, before grabbing another tricorder and heading to assist one of the worse off patients.

Dr. Odraavi
CMO

Aroha paused, rag in hand, as the CMO called out a new set of orders. She quickly gave it to her most recent patient, and then made eye contact with another Ensign and gave them a nod. Sickbay was really bustling now, between all the new patients and the medical staff jumping to fill Odraavi’s orders. As Aroha made her way across the room to the new arivals were coming in, she passed off her bucket of wet rags to NE Stocker since they were on dehydration.

“Worst come first,” Aroha said to NE Anderson who had come over to help her, “That means any injuries that are life threatening, head and severe gut wounds and any children,” making sure that Anderson was in agreement with her. She scanned her eyes over the new comer patients and quickly chose someone. Pulling out her tricorder to scan them feeling a sense of familiarity pass over her. She’d been treating bruises and broken bones since she’d decided she wanted to be a doctor, and with six other siblings, four of them boys she’d had her pick of patients to experiment on.
