The dust had settled , and the Starbase had gotten back to normal Ashley had been proud of her team. Her first major command and they had all done well, especially Lieutenant Pippin. She had been exceptional, something she had felt was true the first moment she had meet the young lady. Sitting back in her chair, the top of her uniform removed it was clear Ashley had punched out of the clock. Her pants and tank all she had now as a deep sigh could be heard as she opened her eyes.

“Computer what time is it?” Ashley asked as she sat up as she opened her eyes, the office itself was dark. It seemed to have a lounge feel to Williams office. Circle of couches and chairs around a table, small bar to the side. Ashley was one that if she had to be stuck inside her office she was going to at least enjoy herself. Desk duty wasn’t ideal, but it did have some perks.

“2000 hours.” came back the voice as Kelly thought about that, “Computer turn lights to 50% brightness.” she commanded, as the room became much more ambient yet didn’t feel like some dive. She had yet to give an offer to any officer for her second in command position. Kelly had impressed her so far and had been asked to swing by her office. If anyone deserved to be considered she did.

Kelly had stayed late to write the promised reports and suggestions for safety and medical lockers being located along the outer ring for emergencies. She had also added a few more pair of antigrav boots, a couple fire suits and a bulkhead sealant scattered along the route as well. This had shown her, at least, that things could have gone far worse. She had opted out of adding weapons lockers because too many civilians moved thru those corridors and she didn’t want the hassle of things like phasers and rifles being hoisted from those lockers.

Moving to the CO’s office, she was still in her uniform. It was a thing with her, to not wander around half uniformed. While the jacket had been unfastened part way while in the Marine mission room where she had been writing, she had buttoned up and straightened up before entering the main walkways of the station. She tapped the chime on the door and awaited the response. The call to enter came and she stepped in. A smile lit her face as the relaxed atmosphere seemed to seep into her without even trying. “I brought that report you wanted…” She held up the padd and set it on the desk where Ash was sitting. “Funny how imposing this room can be in the right light with you behind the desk. I’ve seen grown Marines leave here with sweat on their brow. Yet here you sit… relaxed, out of uniform, just sitting there almost… harmless…” she laughed knowing the CO was anything but harmless.

“Well I figured after all we had to go through, it was a time to relax. Sit down hon, would you like something to drink?” Ash asked her as she got up, he dark hair pulled back into a pony tail and she made it to the bar as she began to pour herself a drink. “I figure off hours we can afford to let go a little, we deserve all this.” she said, her voice soft as she looked over at Kelly.

Kelly unfastened the line of buttons on her uniform, her tshirt soon showing thru the opening as she sat down. “Whatever you are drinking. After a day like this, I’m not one to be finicky.” She laughed and watched the woman move around getting them drinks. “Though shouldn’t I be the one getting you the drink?” She smiled and leaned back in the chair.

“My job wasn’t half as hard as what you had to deal with today. Consider this a thank you.” she said coming back with two glasses and a bottle of rum as she sat down on the sofa next to her. Pouring the drinks she handed her the drinks as she took a deep sip. “This is though something I enjoy at the end.” as she looked over. Looking over Kelly, Ash smiled to herself softly. She had enjoyed the woman before, she had admitted the first time she laid eyes on her just how cute she had been. Sadly much of those thoughts had been pushed to the back of her mind. She knew nothing of her beyond work, and whatever Ash thought of her she needed a chance to get to know her before she could ever let those thoughts come to her.

Kelly had risen and moved to the couch where Ash met her and handed her the glass. “Thank you… And I don’t think we did that much. Poor engineering and medical dealt with far more, I am sure. Makes me glad I didn’t do more than field traige and med in training. Doubt I would want to be around the wounded every day. Don’t think I have that in me.” She lifted her glass and took a sip. “As to the ‘relaxing things’ of your rank and office,” she smiled and nodded to the room in general, “you deserve it. Running around keeping us hoodlums in line can’t be an easy thing.”

“Well this is just the time I take to think, it’s amazing how little at times you feel you have. With paperwork, drills, evaulations… I admit I don’t know what I thought the job would be like. I barley get to see anyone it feels like unless they are running laps for me. If I recall you had the same issue, it’s not easy when you try and work hard. You have to force the downtime but it’s honestly for your own good I think at times. Least this way I can get some very lovely company as I forget what I need to do tomorrow, the computer always reminds me anyway.” Ash said teasingly as she took a longer sip.
