Briony took a breath and half smiled. It was nice to hear that someone who was relatively new to the station had found it to be in good working order. The question about where she was from was interesting. People rarely asked. “San Francisco actually. When my mother chose to come to Earth as her final home, she was fascinated by Star Fleet. I think that was the beginning of her plan for me to join.” She gestured each point in a line of succession. “Move daughter to Earth. Check. Move to the city that houses Star Fleet Headquarters. Check. Befriend many a Star Fleet Officer so that they may influence my daughter. Check. Eventually at my wits end, convince daughter to join for my sanity. Guilt may be involved. Check. Daughter joins, finds she loves it, becomes a Captain.... Check.”

Chandel laughed. “Sounds like you have made peace with your mother’s attempts to influence your career path. Your mother must be quite a woman.” She added with a warm smile, wishing her own mother was still alive. Her mother and tried to influence her own path as well without the desired for results.
Counselor Chandel
Briony smiled completely this time, showing a warmth and a genuine light heartedness she rarely displayed even on her time off while aboard whatever ship or station she was currently in charge of. She looked out the window for a moment, obviously thinking of her mother. There was love there. It exuded from her in every way. “Oh yes.” She said at last and turning back to the Counselor. “I would say she is a force of nature, that one. I might have been petulant at first. I didn’t really take it seriously when I got there. Silly me, I thought I would be there for a few weeks before they kicked me out. They didn’t and I found I really loved everything about it. I guess I got my infallible determination from her because once I dedicated myself to a path, I really went after it. I don’t think I can blame her for giving her lost daughter some purpose and hoping it would stick.”

“What did your parents do? They weren’t in Starfleet I take it?” She asked curiously feeling fairly certain that Briony had been very affected by whatever her parents did. It showed in the confidence she had in herself, she had to have had good role models.
Counselor Chandel
“My father was a farmer, until he was killed by Klingons on our homeworld of Krios. My father was a leader in our community. He was strong and many people followed him loyally. My mother was a doctor. She traded her abilities to a Captain of a ship in order for passage for her and her 10 year old child. That was how we came, eventually, to Earth. I think I got my demeanor from him and my adventurous spirit from her.” Briony could imagine that was a pretty excellent makeup for any captain to have. The memory of her father standing in his field, face raised to the sun and eyes closed in bliss would always remain in her heart.
