Pikelsimer gave her his full attention. “I would say that knowing what my clients want and how to get it is the very foundation of my business, Lieutenant. I would be a piss-poor trader if I simply bought merchandise and then hoped to sell it someday. As I say to some of my Vulcan clients… that’s simply not logical.” and he chuckled again. “The last time I heard of someone trying that particular model of trade, they ended up with forty cases of Deltan mangoes rotting in the cargo hold of their ship. Not pleasant. No, not at all.”

“I hear Deltan mangoes pair well with Romulan ale,” Kate commented, her tone exceedingly dry but her eyes sparkling slightly. Her lips were pressed together to hide her amusement, although one side was quirking up slightly. “Why did you choose to go into business on Starbase Magellan?” she queried after a beat, tilting her head to the side in interest at his reply. “It sounds like your business prowess could be much more effective in other sectors.”

Lt Trent, SOO

“From what I know of them, those particular mangoes pair well with a great deal of beverages. One of their many selling points. But they also have a very short shelf life. Once picked you have maybe a two week window to get them sold, prepared, and eaten before they are inedible. No, I stay away from the fruit if I can. Now, I have been known to broker deals for the trees from time to time. That is a much more logistically sound method of delivery, even if it does mean a wait for the desired edibles.” and he reached under the counter and brought up a blue bottle and then three glasses. Opening the bottle by breaking the wax seal, he poured a clear and bubbly liquid into each glass.

Having received far more information on the difficulties of trading in fruit than she had intended, Kate watched Micah open the bottle with a look of sheer entertainment. She noticed that he hadn’t jumped on her bait regarding Romulan ale. She wasn’t sure if it had been an intentional diversion, but at least it came with a free sample. Her head tilted to the side as she studied the carbonated liquid in the glasses with a slight hint of wariness.

“Here, please.” and he offered a glass to each of the officers. “New acquisition. Glacier water from Botrul VI. It is naturally carbonated, and oddity that makes it somewhat uncommon.” He looked at Harris and lifted his own glass and took a drink. “I find it quite refreshing, actually. I’m thinking of keeping a few bottles in stock consistently. What do you two think?”

Pikelsimer, Trader

Kate reached for the indicated glass and studied it for a few moments before turning her attention to Harris to see what he planned to do. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Pikelsimer take a drink of his own glass and felt her concern dampen slightly at the chances of the liquid being something other than what had been indicated. She looked down at the glass in her hand, watching the bubbles rise to the surface before taking a small sip, enjoying the strange sensation of the carbonation as she swallowed it.

“I’m not sure why normal water won’t do,” she commented after a few moments, her tone neutral.

Lt Trent, SOO

Braxton respectfully declined his offer with a simple head shake and looked at Lieutenant Trent. He didn’t know this person well enough to accept anything he’s offering.

Harris, CoS

Kate offered a small shrug in explanation for her sample. True, he could be trying to poison her, but building rapport won out for the moment.

Lt Trent, SOO

Pikelsimer laughed out loud at Braxton’s hesitation. “Although I completely understand your declining the offer, do try to remember that having two Star Fleet Officers keeling over dead in my shop before I am even officially open would certainly do nothing to help my reputation.” and he laughed again. “Besides, I know you looked at my record. I may have retired, but I will always be a Marine. If I was going to kill you, I’d just shoot you.” he said with a wink, picking up the glass he offered to Braxton and took a drink himself. “Odd. I can taste a faint hint of watermelon. Hang on.” and he reached under the counter and picked up a PaDD and made a note. He sat the PaDD down and then looked both of them square in the eye, his demeanor shifting to serious in a matter of moments.

“Now why don’t you tell me why you both are really here, and we can get down to business. I mean, You aren’t stopping in every new shop you pass. Just mine. So why do I deserve such special attention?”

Pikelsimer, Trader

“Just to peruse the new shop and formally welcome you onboard this installation. Should you need anything, my office is directly behind the Mystique club.”

Harris, CoS

Kate smiled at Pikelsimer’s response to the suspicious Chief of Security. She certainly had an appreciation for the type that would shoot you in the front rather than stab you in the back. They made life far simpler. She finished her glass of sparkling water, trying to discern the notes of watermelon but failing to observe anything other than the enjoyable tingle as she swallowed the beverage. “I’m on the hunt for some coffee beans,” she commented, idly, once Harris had taken his turn at answering the question.

Trent, SOO

Micah inclined his head towards the new Strategic Operations Officer. Retrieving the PaDD, he slid it across the counter surface towards her. “Jot down what you are looking for, Lieutenant. I’d be happy to see if I can help. Coffee in and of itself isn’t too hard to get a hold of. But some beans can be more problematic than others.” Looking at Harris, Micah said “Behind the club, huh? Nice place for an office, I suppose.”
