T’Sara strode down the halls of her new assignment, hands clasped behind her back. A starbase stationing was unexpected, but her Vulcan visage betrayed no sign of how she felt about Magellan or its crew. She came to a door and pivoted on a dime. A marker beside the door read “Captain Briony of Krios, Commanding Officer.” T’Sara pressed the door chime just below this sign.

The door would open to reveal a fairly generous office, of the same length and width of DS9’s ready room though the decor was thoroughly Federation Standard. To her right of the desk was a door that led to the Briefing Room and to the left was a line of massive windows that looked out among the stars. A small sitting area was near those windows, the couch and opposite chairs were Federation regulation grey. Briony was sitting on the couch with a PaDD in hand. Next to that and by the main door was a long thin table with several sculptures and what seemed to be a set of bells made of a bamboo like material. There were small tapestries on the empty sections of wall, both colorful and definitely Kriosian in nature. There were too, a set of shelves with delicate figurines. Each was a man and a woman set in some kind of dance embrace. Each was different and obviously very carefully created. Her desk was clear of clutter. Before Briony was a cup of hot Raktijino. Its smell filled the office as it always did.

Briony herself was straight postured and seemed very formal normally, though she was a little more relaxed on the couch. She was meticulous in her appearance as always. Her uniform was pressed and her hair off her collar in an intricate looking knot at the nape of her neck. Not a hair was out of place. Spots akin to Trill spots were easily visible from widow’s peak to her collar where they disappeared underneath the fabric.

She finished putting in a new requisition order to Star Fleet on her PaDD, tapping the last few items before looking up to see who had wanted to come to her office. “Ah! Lt. Commander T’Sara. Come in.” She stood and tucked her PaDD under her arm holding her drink, then went around her large desk. Her free hand came up automatically in the traditional symbol all Vulcans would recognize. “Live Long and Prosper.”

T’Sara’s hand rose and returned the gesture. “Peace, and long life.” She lowered her arm and extended her other hand to offer a PaDD as she entered the room. “My transfer orders, along with a copy of my service record. 13 years aboard the USS Archimedes, 10 as Chief Science Officer.” What T’Sara left out was a little emotion of her human half that she had diagnosed as resentment for spending 10 years in the same post.

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara, CSO

Briony took the PaDD and scanned it before turning and heading to her couch. “Good. I took the liberty of looking at your record earlier when the transfer came through. 10 yeas as the Chief Science Officer is commendable and certainly the kind of experience we need here on the station.” She gestured to the other side of the couch as she continued to peruse the record, refreshing her memory. She wasn’t dismissive of the woman, but rather all business.

“Are you looking forward to your placement here?”

Briony, CO

T’Sara’s eyebrow arched. “I find a station assignment… interesting. I started aboard the Archimedes immediately after my training ended. This will be a new experience.” She became curious. “Will this assignment entail any travel beyond the station? I am aware that there is a small vessel aboard the station.”

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara, CSO

“Sometimes.” Briony answered as she finished her perusal and placed the PaDD on the couch in front of her. “We do have the USS Trinidad for exploration and defense purposes. I can’t say that there have been many opportunities for exploration lately due to the reoutfitting of the station taking precedence. However, I am not opposed to side missions should you find anything that piques your interest. Being that we are on the border between Romulan, Klingon and Federation space, we get a great deal of alien life forms on board that are unusual. Sometimes they bring aboard thing that will require your expertise to identify. However, unlike a ship, I feel that on a station, you need to be able to handle more than just your job. As I stated, there are numerous species on board. It will be, if nothing else, enlightening for a studious mind.”

Briony, CO

“This will be a welcome change of pace. I will prepare the laboratories for the occasions you mentioned.” She considered the various inhabitants and passersby of all species. A large population of new data. “Is there anything in particular you require of me in the immediate?”

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara

Briony nodded affirmative. “The department has been rather unmanned or only manned by Junior Officers. I imagine that you will have a lot to do to get it up to your standards if you are anything like other people who have risen to the rank of Chief. WE got a significant shipment of supplies when I came on board, but I imagine a lot of the crates for the Science Department haven’t been unpacked yet. You will also need to do checks on the Trinidad to make sure you are aware of its functionality and limitations for whatever duties you might need to be on it for. Make sure it is supplied as necessary.”

“Other than that, I would recommend getting to know the station and its inhabitants.”

Briony, CO

“Very well Captain. I will notify you when it is my professional opinion that the labs are at full working capacity. Otherwise I will be acquainting myself with my surroundings.” T’Sara had limited emotional range, from her Vulcan upbringing, but her Human heritage left behind a propensity to feel unexpectedly. She felt excited at her new station. She showed no outward signs, but she was trying to find some justification within logical reason for this feeling.

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara, CSO

“Good.” Briony said in her normal brisk manner. She stood, expecting her officer to do the same. She had 14 aqcuisition forms to deal with in the next hour. At least half of them were from Ferengi who weren’t going to get what they wanted but she still had to give them a once over. “It seems you, like me, have much to do then. Lt. Commander Foley or me know if you need anything further. If nothing comes to mind, I will check in on you from time to time.”

Briony, CO

T’Sara nodded. “I will make the laboratories to top specifications. Come by anytime Captain.”

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara, CSO

Briony nodded in return. She would be visiting too. Briony was the kind of captain that watched departments closely. Now that the Chief Science Officer position was filled, she felt a little better about the Magellan’s staff. That position had been notoriously hard to keep people in. She turned from the door and went back to her desk. There was more paperwork to do. Several more requisition forms required her approval and one of the restaurants on the Promenade had been shut down due to unhealthy conditions. She grimaced, glad she had not eat there and no one had gotten seriously ill.
