The Romulan diplomatic vessel had been granted permission to dock. She was returning to Romulus from Earth and had requested a 24 hour stop over to allow the crew some rest and for her quartermaster to take on some fresh supplies for the galley. Airlock passage opened and two Romulan security officers stepped through, glanced around and took up position, one at each side of the hatch.

Three men then emerged through the hatch. On the left there was the Romulan amabassador, dressed in fine, and smart civillian clothing. On the right there was the ship’s captain. His military uniform was smart and pristine and he carried himself with an air of authority and upon emerging from room glanced around.

The third man in the group was a tall, thin human with brushed back blonde hair. A Starfleet officer bearing the rank of Captain. He looked around as if he had seeen a ghost. To Ben, it was almost like stepping back in time. The group had been talking casually making arrangements to meet up at a restaurant for dinner later in the evening. The Romulans joking that they thought Ben would be sick of Romulan food after their journey. The group fell silent as the Captain seemed to be distracted by his thoughts.

As an ensign, Gillespie had been a pilot on the starbase. At the time the Starbase had not had a name and was just an Outpost with a number. The Romulan amabssador had spoken true when he had said the stations refit had been a worthwhile collaboration between the Romulans, the Kllingons and the Federation. Ben remembered reading about the refit project which had been described as a historic venture of peace that would benefit all three peoples. ‘A project that will see the development of a unique cosmopolitan space for commerce and recreation,’ was what they had said. From his memories even some redocartion would brighten the place up and make it feel more welcoming.

There almost seemed to be an unspoken conversation between the Captain and the Ambassador who put a hand on Gillespie’s shoulder. “Ben, you are not your father,” he said in a hushed, but warm voice.

“I know,” Ben replied before putting on a stage smile to hide his feelings for the welcomming party…

OOC: Welcome aboard, Jim!

Among the welcoming party, shrouded by the lanky figures that towered above her diminutive stature, Nisihe watched for the station’s new Commander. In her time as a doctor aboard the Magellan, she had seen commanders come and go, each unique to themselves and their methods. Of them, Briony and her close friend Nakuto had been among the most interesting. Although saddened to see Briony go, she was curious to what this new Captain would bring to the station.

“Ex-excuse me!” Nisihe huffed, folding her arms over her chest as a larger man stepped in front of her. “Typical.”

Weaving through those gathered, Nisihe kept a close eye on her commbadge. She hoped this was quick; Odraavi didn’t fancy being away from the Sickbay for too long. Brushing down her uniform, she put on her characteristic smile, in all its eccentric bubbliness.

Odraavi, CMO

Amongst the Starfleet Officers present, there were several people wearing press passes. Ben was annoyed seeing how one of them stepped infront of his officers. Anywhere that an Ambassader went, the press were not far behind.

“OK folks,” he announced to a flutter of camera clicks as the room quietened down, “This is not a press conference or photo opportunity. You will recieve no comments from us here. I would appreciate it if you would step back and to the edge of the room. I will allow you to observe our business, as long as there is no interferance or disruption.”

“With your permission, Captain, My contigent I will take our leave of you, so you can continue with your duties,” the Romulan ambassador said.
“I will see you later, old friend,” Ben replied casually.
“Less of the old,” the Romulan said with a grin as he headed for the exit with a number of the press contingent at his heels.

“Good. The nasty buggers left.” Dwarfed by her companions, Nisihe watched with pleasure as the press slipped from the bay, hot on the Ambassador’s heels. She felt bad for him, but trusted he could handle himself. Surely it was nothing new.

Once there was a bit of space, the CMO’s smile caught Ben’s attention. It was like a breath of fresh air, but Ben knew that the smiling Betazoid would be able to see through him and sense the unease he hid behind his own smile.

He was uneasy. To a Betazoid, it was as if he wore his emotion on his sleeve for the world to see. She wondered why. Nisihe was not a psychologist, her training was intended to help her control her abilities. Nodding to the captain, Odraavi hoped the anxiety (if it could be described as such) would pass the longer he was aboard the Magellan.

As a DH T’Sara thought it only logical she welcome the new CO onboard. She offered a Vulcan salute and courteous nod as he entered. She knew little of this man, but it seemed more fitting to learn his ways through experience than by browsing a personnel file.

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara, CSO

Ben approached T’Sara, who from what he could see was the senior officer in the group and returned her pristine Vulcan salute.

“Captain Benjamin Gillespie, requesting permission to come aboard,” he said.

-Ben

For a moment, this struck T’Sara as odd. But it was procedure that the ranking officer on deck officially permit the new CO to board before he could take his station. “Permission granted Captain. Welcome aboard. I am Lt Cmdr T’Sara, I will be serving as your Chief Science Officer.”

-Lt Cmdr T’Sara, CSO

Odraavi, CMO

“Thank you,” Ben replied “And you must be one of our fine doctors here to ensure I get my physical?”

-Ben

Fine is a relative term, skipper. Captain Briony nearly slipped through my fingers..” She recalled the poor Ensign who had come from the welcoming party, empty-handed. Amusement twitched in her smile. “It will not happen again, sir.”

“In all seriousness,” Nisihe extended a hand, “the name’s Nisihe Odraavi. I’ll be serving as your head physician. If you have any aches or markings that look like you were bitten by a Gorn, my staff is here to help.”

Dr. Odraavi, CMO

The doors opened to the Turbolift behind the gathered crowd. Briony was looking down at a datapad with several officers standing behind her. One obviously waiting patiently for her to return the datapad. As she made a few adjustments to the requisition order, the Romulan contingent boarded the lift. Briony looked up and gave them a respectful nod. Then she handed the PaDD with a half smile to the man waiting. He took it quickly and she exited the lift. It proceeded to transport those it carried to their various destinations.

Captain Briony was immaculately dressed. Not a single dark chocolate hair was out of place on her head. Her uniform was pressed and though she had been working for several hours already that day, it didn’t show. Her Kriosian spots decorated her skin starting at her forehead and trailing down the side of her face and neck before disappearing into the stiff looking collar of her uniform. Her smile widened slightly as she found Captain Benjamin Gillespie surrounded by officers. She nodded greeting to Odraavi.

“We’ll go straight there once we have finished here,” Ben said.

“I see the welcoming party found you well enough Captain. Welcome aboard the Starbase Magellan. How was your trip?” For all her stiffness, she seemed perfectly at ease with pleasantries.

Briony, CO

“Thank you, Captain. I have known the Ambassador for a number of years and as he was making the journey home from Earth. As such he was more than happy to provide transport and ale,” Ben replied.

“I did not see the Triniton docked. Is she out on operational maanouvres?” Ben asked, eager to be brought up to speed with the current happenings.

-Ben

Chandel had almost caught the message about the new CO coming aboard too late but she had had enough time to slip into the bay behind Captain Briony and stand off to the side as she watched the two Captain’s greet each other.

Counselor Chandel

Braxton was busy dressing the ranks of his officers who were lined up in formation in the bay. Braxton took two steps back and with a quick about faced maneuver. “Captain on the Deck!” Braxton bellowed.

Harris, CoS

“At Ease,” Ben instructed, “I appreciate that everyone is busy, so let’s keep the formalities brief.”

-Ben

His team of officers loosened up “Aye Sir. If you have time I’d like to discuss some Security measures I’m implementing at a later date. Sir.”

Harris, CoS

“Ofcourse, Lieutenant, Please come see me in my office later on once I’ve got settled in and brought up to speed on the immediate state of play,” Ben invited.

-Ben

“Yes Sir”

Harris, CoS

Briony waited a little impatiently as Harris interrupted their pleasantries with his requests. However she gave him his moment and then returned her attention to the new Captain. “The Trinidad is out currently on routine patrol and should be returning tomorrow. We are monitoring them with long range sensors. When you are done with your evaluations, please join me on the Bridge. I am sure you are eager to get started. I am working on a summary of the state of things here both with Star Fleet and Civilian life so as to make your transition as smooth as possible. I will see you soon.”

She nodded to the group gathered and left them to get their time in with their new Captain. She could not begrudge them their excitement. There was a part of her that was very sad to be leaving and yet another that was eager to see what was next for her.

Briony, Outgoing CO
