Kelly’s hand waved silent instructions as they split into two groups to sweep the area. She led one group while the other group followed her supervisor.

Half way around the room, she started to breathe normally again. They had all expected a room full of conflict, or at least confrontation. She wasn’t sure if complete silence, and nothing else, was any better. As they swept the bay, she glanced at several containers big enough to hide people in and wondered if there were surprises for the surprisers.

The marines found the cargo bay empty and dark, just like a cargo bay full of junk should be. It would have been easy enough to assemble the team and breach the door into the rest of the ship, except for at about that moment, the vessel lurched to the side, sending containers and marines flying across the room.

Aaron was usually a patient man. He had become a man of science, and had been forced into a command type position. But now, time was ticking, and his people were trapped. It was now or never.

“Okay, times up. Warning shots across the bow. Engage tractor beams, lets stop that ship.”

“Yes sir,” the tactical officer said as they trained a firing solution on the cargo ship, and fired a shot across its bow.

LtCmdr Foley - XO

The tactical officer was good, but not that good. One of the warning shots clipped the cargo ship and sent it lurching on his side before straightening out. Not but a few seconds later a hail came in from the ship.

GM Wombat.

Aaron cursed. To close, way to close. Before he could yell at the tactical officer, Ops interrupted his thought.

“Incoming hail from the ship.”

This was not the plan. He had to recover before someone got hurt, especially the starbase. “Lock onto their engines, be prepared to disable them. Open the channel.”

Kelly growled at the ship rocked. A couple screams hit her ears as bodies got trapped, clipped or pinned. “So much for surprise,” she muttered as she picked herself up from the floor where she had joined a small pile of less heavy objects.

Grabbing the two nearest Marines who were still standing, she stuck them on door watch then doing her weapon started checking the rest of them.

Her eyes scanned furiously for the MACO as she went. The woman has been on the other side of the transport container which was now slammed against a wall with at least two bodies behind it, neither bodies’ love were flailing and she guessed they were blessedly dead. A quick vitals check confirmed it. “CAPTAIN!” She hollered over the klaxon and din of cries and hollers in the bay. A mild hint of panic filled her voice.

Kelly tapped her comm and hollered back to the Magellan. =^=Pippin to base… Something happened. I think we’re under attack. Marines down. Need immediate evac of dead and wounded. I’ve got enough to proceed, though, on your orders.=^= The background noise was a chaos of screams, an emergency klaxon and grating metal.

She helped free those they could as she continued to look for the leader and mentor that had accompanied them.. lead them. Her breath hitching every time she called it and didn’t get an answer. Her hand waving away help as one hand or another reached out to help stop the flow of blood from a cut that went from her right temple to about half way down her jaw. Adrenalin was keeping her going and she didn’t even notice it, it the pain in her jaw every time she cried out for survivors to sound off.

=^=Understood Lieutenant. We are incoming and trying to stop the freighter. Hold tight we will be there as soon as possible. =^=

Aaron cursed, this was not how the mission was supposed to go. But there wasn’t time now to think about what they could have done differently. For now they just had to get through this, and back to the Starbase.

LtCmdr Foley - XO

By the light of the warning klaxons, Kelly could see most of the marines were just fine. Some were tussled about and had bruises and bumps. One poor soul had a mild concussion but that was about the worst of it. No one was actually dead. It wasn’t a direct shot and they did have force fields, after all, which took most of the blast. NP (nameless private) Johnson smiled at the LT though and nodded, “Thanks ma’am. Don’t know what we would do without ya. You have a real knack for keeping your head on your shoulders in times like these. If it would have been up to me we would have caused all sorts of commotion!”

Back on the Trinity, the hail came in from the hapless would-be pirates. The first half of the transmission was riddled with a string of expletives insulting everyone from Foley himself, Foley’s mother, the Trinity as a vessel, and some how the quality of material the uniforms were made from. Once the man calmed down he leaned forward, the first time Foley probably got a good look at the scarred and plump and scarred man, =/\= What were ya thinking?! Ya could have gotten us killed for crying out loud!=/\=

The man took a deep breath then waved the second one onto the screen. =/\= Look… Oh… =/\=

Another moment of silence ensued before the second pirate, a thin man with a receding hairline blurted out, =/\=Listen bub! We are a… a… dreadnought! We will blow your measly ship from the sky and not feel bad about it at all!=/\=

Scans, of course, revealed this was an old freighter with barely enough shields to keep the thing afloat. If it had a single torpedo tube that actually worked it was a small miracle. In its heyday the vessel likely relied on speed and agility to avoid conflict directly, but now poor maintenance had left it a lumbering hulk crewed by an incompetent crew.

Aaron sighed, he was done playing these games. He wanted to get his marines back, and Magellan back in one piece.

=^= Well if you are a dreadnought, then we should respond to the potential threat accordingly. =^= Aaron left the channel open as he turned towards the tactical officer. “Prepare to fire all forward phasers, and a full spread of quantum torpedoes at the ‘dreadnought’, on my mark.”

After a few seconds the tactical officer responded. “Weapons standing by.”

Aaron raised his hand, index finger in the air ready to point at the screen for emphasis.

“And....” he said as he started to lower his hand.

LtCmdr Foley - XO

=/\=Wait! No! Stop!=/\= the weaselly man exclaimed. =/\=There’s no need for violence, is there? Come on guys just let us go eh? We didn’t mean nothing by anything.=/\=

From off screen a fist came in and cuffed the other man on the top of his head. “Ow!” the man exclaimed before looking back to the communication monitor, =/\= What do you want? A piece of the action?=/\=

GM Wombat

Aaron had to work to keep the smirk off of his face. He had figured that they were just bluffing, they didn’t have the fire power to fight them. He stopped lowering his hand and held it upright. “Hold fire.”

Carefully lowering his hand, Aaron looked at the two on the screen. =^= I want to know who is the one running this operation. Who is trying to sabotage the Starbase, and why? =^=
