Viktoryia entered the conference room and pulled the star chart out of the pouch she placed it in the center of the table. She placed the crystal in the center of the chart. She took her seat at the head of the table and waited for the rest of her senior officers to arrive.

Ravenfall, CO

While waiting. The lights in the room seemed to dim a second and a shadow dart on the edge of the Captains vision. However. Nothing to be seen as she looks around.

-GM

It wasn’t long before Nevin entered the room. for the upcoming briefing…

-Akorem

Just behind the First officer followed the hulking Intelligence Chief entered. As usually he was reading another report and drinking a cup of what was most likely coffee. He sat down on the Captains left, opposite the first officer “Captain, Commander” He nodded to each and closed the PaDD. He looked at the Star Chart and Crystal and raised an eyebrow “That’s new” He commented.

CIO

The Chief Science Officer came through the door and smiled broadly. “Hello, everyone. Glad to see I am not the last to arrive.” he said as he took a seat down the table from the three at the head. He saw the crystal on the table and leaned forward, studying it closely but not trying to touch it. “Well, well, well… what have we here?”

Sanx, CSO

Mike arrived next, still carying his trusty toolbox. He said a simple “Hi.” and gave CO a nod. He was in a bit grumpy mood today as he was pulled away from a repair he was doing. He hopped the meeting won’t last too long, and the duct tape he used will hold until get’s back to the leak he was fixing. If not USS Viking will have a new swimming pool in cargobay.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kalika Came in just behind Stone. Her voice silent till she sat down closest to the door. “Captain…” she then replied in nod to Ravenfall. She then nodded murmured greetings to each of the others in the room.

Nevin took his seat at the captain’s right hand side. He sat and started reading the text (which from his perspective was upside down) in order to work out approximately where (if anywhere the Viking was currently on the chart. The two dimensional view offered by the paper chart was significantly more difficult to interpret than the display on a console which could effectively display an isometric representation of space which could be rotated and zoomed easily.

He looked up, “I believe we are still waiting on Lieutenants SEAI and Beveres,” Nevin said. He made a mental note to speak with SEAI. He expected better timekeeping from an Android.

-Akorem

The crystal on the table glowed just a breadth deeper crimson. A clear sense of unease filling the room as it did so. Shadows seeming deeper and movements in the corners of the officers eyes.

-GM

Peter slowly moved his head and looked around. Flickering shadows in the briefing room, Next time they were in drydock he was going to have a very interesting discussion with Command about the status of their ship. He looked back at the map Commander Akorem was examining. He just noticed that he’d started clenching his jaw. “I heard rumblings that the Admiral had this hand delivered.” He looked at the Captain “I think I have a Sextant in storage somewhere” He joked… he only ever joked when nervous or uneasy but he had no reason to be. Interesting.

CIO

Nevin smiled at the CIO’s joke. He too was curious as to the reason for the physical map. If someone was so paranoid about computer security that they deemed it necessary was undone by unfolding the map… That was unless the internal sensors and video feeds in the room were already disabled.

Sanx watched as the crystal emitted the glow and the shadows danced in the room. He scowled and then looked at the Captain. “Captain. Where did this come from?”

Sanx, CSO

“It was sent with our mission packet! Notes scribbled along the map of the nebula say it will give us safe passage through.” Viktoryia said as she caught the movement again. Her body tensed as an unnerving feeling washed over her.

Sanx’s question caught Nevin’s attention. Where the glowing crystal came from didn’t intrigue Nevin as much as what it actually was.

“You know what it is, Lieutenant?” he asked.

-Akorem

“No idea. But if I can get it to the lab, I can hopefully fill in some gaps.” Sanx replied, still looking at the object.

Kalika frowned slightly at the stone’s change. And while she was used to flickers out to corner of her eyes, the feeling this time was completely different. The fact the others felt it will, did nothing to settle her growing feeling of dread. As that to the fact she was discovering no one else in the room knew what the object was, and her hackles rose higher.

The half Orion rose and moved to the windows as if bored, but listening. She scanned space as if there was a giant sign that explained everything. She would see it, nod, and all would be well. But there was no sign.

Kalika turned back to the table and moved slightly, and slowly, to lean against the wall. The idea the corners of the room held something that could become tangible made her suddenly ‘not’ want to be sitting down like a target.

“I know we’re supposed to wait, but with all due respect, in light of that,” she motioned to the suddenly active stone, “perhaps we need to be enlightened sooner, rather than later. I’ll be happy to help catch the others up when they get here.” Despite her calm appearing exterior, the green skinned woman was anything but.

At this point, SEAI strode into the room, “I do hope that you were not going to start without me. I would hate to waste everyones time catching me up.” Inwardly, she cursed the ensigns who always seemed to make her late for these meetings. Taking a seat next to Kalika, she looked up at the projection, “I assume that this is something other than movie night, as I do have important things to do.”

((just fyi… Kalika is against the wall by the windows, away from the pulsing stone on the table and in a corner keeping an odd eye on the entire room… Meli))

Peter’s eyes narrowed as the Android entered the room. He was instinctively mistrustful of non-organics and his few interactions with it left little for him to like. ” As he looked at her sit down he brought up her file from memory and read over it once more. He looked back at the gemstone and the physical maps once more. Something was unnerving him.

CIO

Viktoryia gave the Android a warning glare and then continued. “We have been ordered to patrol the Casa de Diablo nebula. There have been rumors flying about strange things happening to ships as they pass through the nebula, and the Admrial wants to know wants to know why!”

Captain Ravenfall

“What kind of ‘strange things’? And through or by?” Sanx asked curiously.

Sanx, CSO

Nevin refrained from asking if they were strange by most starfleet standards or strange by the Viking’s standard. He remained silent waiting for the CO’s response to Sanx. he was as much in the dark as the DHs that were present.

-Akorem

Mike just rubbed his temples, mumbling slightly displeased. But as he thought about it, how much wierder could things get on the Viking. Perhaps it would even be an improvement.

“I take it we are to patrol until we find out what’s so strange about that nebula? Maybe not naming it House of the devil would be benificial. I suggest Rainbow unicorn nebula or Happy bunnies jumping around nebula.”

Names had quite an effect on people. Like naming their ship Viking. One would immediately thing of strong warriors when in fact USS Flying Rust Bucket would be a much more apropriate name.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Peter half smiled at the Engineers joke “I think that might be a considerable Misnomer Chief”

She had nodded to SEAI as she walked in and shook her head at the new assignment. Kalika had to stifle her snicker as Mike’s accent added a more playful tone to the odd suggestions for the nebula. She then shook her head at the CO. “So because it has all the ear markings of a black hole or worm hole phenomenon, the Viking is sent to investigate? Is it because we are already beset by the strangeness of the universe that Starfleet believes ‘we’ won’t be affected?” Her voice had gone from mildly amused to almost outraged in the span of a couple sentences.

Realizing her outburst, she bit her lip and crossed her arms. “My apologies, Captain. But it angers me that the ship with the most damage, the least amount of stability and probably ‘not’ the closest, is the one being sent. I don’t like it one bit. I just wanted to say that.” She closed her mouth so tightly she almost pursed her lips. She was glad to only be half Orion at times like this. Had she been a full blooded emerald descendant, her emotions would have set off her pheromones. As it was, they were tightly controlled, as always as she leaned on the wall, arms crossed once more.

Kalika

Peter leaned back in his seat, looked at the Captain then back at the Security Chief with a neutral look on his face “When we return to Spacedock Then we shall have a frank discussion with the upper echelons. Until then we have a mission” He indicated the map and the glowing jewel “And the unknow awaits.”

CIO

SEAI leaned back in her chair, “I recommend that we outfit all crew with self-scanners for the duration of our time in the nebula. I have read reports of different experiences inside of them, and I would like to know if something is happening to our crew sooner rather than later.”
