Upon clearing her medical exam, T’Shura headed to Deck 5 and the Science Labs and the CSO office. As she passed through the labs she studied the various stations and the work being performed on each. It seemed to be mostly of the reviewing data and previous scans, nothing appeared to be urgent.

Reaching the CSO’s office she paused and waited for the automatic sensors to relay her presence to the officer inside.

T’Shura Sci

Several long moments passed and nothing happened, when suddenly the doors opened and a figure stepped out and almost ran squarely into her. Stopping short, a Denobulan male wearing the blue uniform of the Science section and Lieutenant pips almost fell over as he tried to keep from barreling into the stationary scientist. A short cry of surprise, accompanied by a puffing out of his face in the fashion of the race, and he said “By the heavens! What are you doing just standing outside a door!” and then he quickly composed himself. “Apologies. Sincerely. You just startled me. Yes? What can I do for you?”

Sanx, CSO

T’Shura stepped back quickly so as not to be knocked over.”Quite alright, Lieutenant. Lieutenant Junior Grade T’Shura reporting for duty, sir.” She said formally, proferring her orders padd.

T’Shura Sci

Still a bit startled, Sanx took the PaDD and said “Please come in.” he said, and turned and began walking into the office. “Oh, and I would always use the chime on a door on board this ship, Lieutenant. Things that work without thought on other vessels can be… problematic… on the Viking.” he said over his shoulder as he walked around the desk and took a seat. “Please. Sit. Something to drink? The replicator here is one of the least temperamental ones.”

Sanx, CSO

T’Shura blinked as she stared at Sanx. “Do the door chimes not work automatically?” She asked as she took a seat.”No, I do not require anything at the moment. Thank you.”

T’Shura Sci

Sanx looked at her and a smile of resignation swept across his face. “Nothing on this ship works like it should, Lieutenant. You should remember that with everything you do going forward. The crew is very supportive. The ship? The ship is most definitely not your friend. Oh, and be careful going through doors. They can shut on you. Hard.”

Sanx, CSO

“Most inefficient.”T’Shura murmured. She then looked at the CSO with expectation waiting for her to take the lead in this meeting.

T’Shura Sci

Sanx said simply “Not at all. So…” and he readjusted himself in the chair, “… what brings you to the Viking?”

Sanx, CSO

T’Shura blinked for a moment.”I was transferred here from the Memorial, sir.” She answered literally as was par for a Vulcan. She was not as use to serving with humans and their use of colloquialism so she answered literally.

T’Shura Sci

Sanx nodded and continued. “I see. Did you request the transfer? And what did you do on the Memorial? Do you have a specialty? Or an area that interests you more than others?” he asked.

Sanx, CSO

“I was assigned within the xenobiology and planetary division as those are my major areas of study. I am fascinated with how the development of planets affects the evolution of life on those planets. No, I did not request the transfer. I would assume Starfleet felt my skills were more needed here.”

T’Shura Sci

Sanx nodded approvingly, and when she had finished said “And what do you know of the Viking? Her… ‘reputation’?”

Sanx, CSO

TShura blinked again. “Her reputation? I usually do not pay attention to gossip, sir. Is it relevant?”

T’Shura Sci

Sanx shook his head. “The Viking has more than the average number of incidents. From a statistical standpoint, it is significant. From a scientific standpoint, we have no explanation for that outlier. From a personal view of many of the crew… the ship is cursed. Couple that predisposition to superstition with the amount of accidents and malfunctions… you get the ‘perfect storm’ of self-fulling prophesy.”

Sanx, CSO

T’Shura blinked.”That sounds more fanciful then a logical explanation, sir.” She said carefully not wishing to offend the CSO. “There is more then likely a perfectly logical and scientific for the incidents.”

T’Shura Sci

Sanx smiled. “One would think. I have conducted countless scans, data compilations, and environmental surveys. Engineering has checked, rechecked, repaired, and replaced almost every system on this ship. Multiple times. But still we have the issues… even after the rogue AI.” he added almost as an after thought.

Sanx, CSO

“Hmm. So what are we doing about it and what is our current mission, sir?” T’Shura asked.

T’Shura Sci

“Well, we are waiting on our next mission. As far as what we are doing about the ship? We are scientists. We gather data and analyze, look for clues and signs of what may be afflicting the ship. Now, about you…” he said , changing the subject. “What do you want out of your time here? What are your goals?”

Sanx, CSO

T’Shura blinked as she took in the question.”Well, my goal upon entering Starfleet was learning about unknown planets and their evolution. That is still my main area of study. I still have some files from my last tour on the Memorial that I will collating and organizing. None are classified, just various planetoids that we passed.”

T’Shura Sci

Sanx smiled and said “And how do you think that being here rather than, say… a more purely science vessel… will help you with that? Explorer-class vessels tend not to remain stationary long enough to do any real scientific study.”

Sanx, CSO
