“Umm....” Kristi glanced around as if expecting a caretaker to show up. “She’s making sure the outside of the ship is ok so we always have air in here.” She cocked her head slightly and looked at the small cherub. Children frightened her, honestly. They weren’t intelligent enough to discuss engineering specs, or understand her fascination with plasma conduits. But this one… this child… caught something in her. Perhaps it was the fact the child had arrived, on its own.

She wasn’t aware of it, but she was suddenly crouched on the balls of her feet, placing her closer to the child’s height. “How did you get here? Are you ‘supposed’ to be in the bay?” It was kindly asked. Mostly she was curious if the child had been told not to come in here, or if she had just been wandering and actually unaware of where she was. If anyone was listening, her voice had suddenly gotta soft, though hesitant. An odd sound to Mike who was used to hearing her as a strong and confident woman. Right now was the most unsure he had ever heard her.

=/\= Stone to O’Larria… Are you managing on your end? =/\= He was smiling even thoough he tried to be serious. It sounded to him as if Kristi ran into some trouble with a toddler.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

“ That child is going to be the death of me” Luna growned.

Crenity giggled at Kristi.” The shadows lead me here, I think daddy got lost” she said. She opend Her wings and then closed them again.
Ensign Luna

Crenity. A nauseous wave of apprehension washed over Kara at the sound of the child’s voice. Almost impossible to give words to the sensations she experienced around Luna’s only daughter, but Nakuto knew that Crenity was special, that she had seen and heard and discovered things no infant should ever have to endure.

And now the half-Klingon found herself straining to hear every word, as if the success of their mission balanced on a fate known to this child alone. Prophecy. Was this a gift bestowed upon Crenity from the gods? Or did darker, more insidious forces wield her as a vessel for their own communication? She cast a glance towards Luna, wondering if the mother shared her trepidation?

But in that moment there were other, more urgent, matters that demanded Nakuto’s attention. Naglfar continued to trace a circular path around the USS Viking but its pilot’s brief lack of focus had seen the shuttle drift to starboard, coming within mere inches of the massive starship at its side. And for a brief moment, as Kara glanced past Stone towards the Viking’s darkened windows, her eyes connected with another staring back out at them. The interaction was fleeting, the watcher being swallowed by the shadows almost immediately. But Kara had seen enough to be momentarily consumed by fear and pity for one so hideously deformed.

But now their shuttle was clearing the ship’s side and circling towards the bow. Her intended destination. A small course-correction to the left and suddenly there it was. The statue.

Those monstrous effigies of marble had haunted her slumber ever since their first appearance. But while its bretheren remained on their home planet, waiting patiently for another ship to pass by, this one had been fused with the Viking, destined forever to remain a perverted and malevolent figurehead.

“I see we still have our mascot,” Nakuto commented to Stone, one hand gesturing towards the statue. Thick walls of duranium-titanium alloy separated the crew from this creature on their bow but still, as it turned its head to observe the approaching shuttle, Kara could not suppress the shiver than ran through her.

OOC: Pasting Mike back in…

Muting the channel, so Kristi wouldn’t overhear, Mike turned to Luna and replied simply with a smile still visible “Don’t worry about it, I’m sure O’Larria can handle it.”

“ I don’t think you have ever meet my child. I’m shure the captain or the consuler can’t tell you all about some of her antics “ Luna sat shaking her head.

Turning around, Mike noticed something unusual. “That’s odd. That lower part was taken compleately offline since it’s part of the darkside of the ship. There should be no power whatsoever, yet I can see there’s two windows curently illuminated next to each other. Kara, can you take us closer so we can have a look?” He said and pointed to where he wanted her to fly to. Since instead of 1000 USS Viking only had a skleton crew of less then 300 officers, parts of the ship were turned offline, to minimise power consumption but also to have less need for mentainance.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kristi heard Mike but ignored him. She had grown close enough to him lately to hear the smile on his face as he spoke. =^= I’m fine, Sir. How’s the ship look?=^= She glanced back at the small cherub before her. “What do you mean, your Daddy got lost? And what shadows? There are no shadows on the ship, little one, except those we put down when we walk by light. See?” She moved her hand to show her own shadow moving on the ground nearby due to the backlighting in the small alcove.

Engineer

Crenity giggled.” I don’t know where daddy is and not throws shadow there are shadows on this ship that can talk” the child insisted. She was being dead serious.
Ensign Luna

Forcing her eyes to retreat from the ghastly figurehead, Nakuto turned to observe the windows of which Lt Stone spoke.

“I see them, Mr Stone,” she responded, the shuttle now edging to the left and as close to the side of the starship as she could maintain without a collision.

“Run a diagnostic,” she called over her shoukder to whichever of her passengers may be listening. “See if we can pick up any heat signatures or signs of activity in those rooms.”

Kara Nakuto

Luna attempted to run a diegnostic on the area of the ship indicated. “ I think I got it set right “ Luna said.
Ensign Luna

Kristi frowned. “Shadows don’t talk, little angel.” She wasn’t sure why she called the child that, it just sort of …. fit. “I mean, unless you have an imaginary friend who is a shadow. I had a small targ when I was a child. It was make believe but it told me all kinds of neat secrets and even kept me company when I had a bad dream.” She tilted her head slightly to inquire. “Is that how the shadows speak to you?”

Kristi
Engineer

As the small shuttle aproached the section of the ship that was supposed to be dark, the lights turned off.

“Were we spotted? Those sections are supposed to be crew quaters. But no one was supposed to live there. A little power still flows to the dark section, so it would be possible something turned on on it’s own. Did scans show anything?”

Mike didn’t believe in coincidences that much.
