After completing her medical and before heading to checkin with the CSO, T’Shura made her way to the CNS office. She thought that this was a waste of time. Humans put too much emphasis on emotions and counselors in her opinion. Very inefficient use of time she thought but it was regulations. Reaching the doors she waited for the chime to sound to announce her presence.

Tal was used to the ineffectual belief of her department, well aware that a good majority of officers discovered her presence and requirement of an evaluation to be a ‘waste of time,’ or simply ‘useless.’ It did not bother her, these notions, as it didn’t keep her from doing her job. Plus, what better way to actively pester someone without them knowing? Kidding.

“Come in!” When the scientist stepped in, she would find a dark skinned woman situated behind a broad desk, which made her appear almost diminutive behind it. To her left, a small creature was resting upon a pillow, peacefully and without any true disturbances.

T’Shura stepped in and took a moment to study the room, her curious gaze falling onto the creature to the left of the Counselor. She wasn’t aware that small creatures were allowed aboard ship. She assumed this was a pet. “Good afternoon, Counselor. I am here for my boarding psych exam.” She said as she came to rest in front of the Counselors desk.

It was a long story, that behind the guinea pig who otherwise probably wouldn’t have been allowed on the ship. “Good afternoon, Miss.” two greeted in an akin regard to the Vulcan scientist. “Please, have a seat wherever you are comfortable.” She motioned to both the couch and the chairs before her.

T’Shura chose the closest chair and took a seat. She recognized the species of the creature as an Earth rodent, more then likely of the class Caviidae and family Cavia. She was unaware of the more common Earth name it might be classified as though. “That is an Earth rodent, is it not, Counselor? ” She asked curiously as she sat with back straight and hands resting lightly on her thighs.

“Yes. It is an adapted and tames species from Guinea, hence their informal nickname: Guinea Pig. They’re relatively harmless, beyond the occasional nip. Although, their teeth are quite dull, used mostly for force, over anything else.” Tal was devoted to her miniature friend, thus she knew a great deal about them. “Elphaba is her name, actually. Several of the older officers here have pets back from when there was a bit of an animal catastrophe, about a year and a half ago. Quite vexing.” She shook her head, “Besides the point. How are you?”

T’Shura blinked and focused her attention back on the Counselor.”I am doing quite well, Counselor. Thank you. I have completed my boarding checks and am settling in.”
Her mind though kept running the information she had learned about Earth rodents in another pathway while her attention was focused on Beveres. An Earth rodent that subsisted on grains, seeds, vegetables and fruit. Non aggressive by nature and burrowers. She wondered what animal catastrophe the Counselor was referring too.

The Counselor took a second to pull up her file on the monitor beside her, listening to what the woman was saying. A small smile, perhaps characteristic in its appearance, formed upon her lips. “That is wonderful to hear,” Her voice, while accented from a world far from this ship, remained calm and collected. Welcoming, or so she hoped, in any way possible. “I trust you have been able to settle well into the Viking, Lieutenant?”

Lt. Beveres
CNS

“I believe so, Counselor. Though time will tell on how well I integrate with the rest of the crew. I have found on my past postings that I did so with a minimum of friction. So far I have found both the CMO and CSO agreeable to interact with. Both are concise and straight forward.”

T’Shura Sci

“Ah, yes. Mister Sanx and Lt. SEAI are wonderful people, I should doubt you will find yourself subject to any lies in their presence.” Tal considered T’Shura for a few seconds, her gaze drifted to note upon her stance and ‘aura,’ if one wished to call it that. “On another topic: what experiences have you had prior to the Viking? I trust this is not your first assignment to a fleet ship.”

Tal wished to keep the conversation mellow, in order to decipher who this woman was as a person, rather than an officer. The questions were common of most counselors, but that would only remain for a few more minutes. After all, how could one learn much if offering only statistic inquiries?

Lt. Beveres
CNS

“Indeed not. I have had three prior postings. My first upon graduation was the USS Olympic, which was my longest posting at ten years. After a personal eLOA on Vulcan for 4 years I was posted to USS Montgomery upon re enlistment, where I served for 8 years. My posting to the Memorial was brief due to my transfer here. I am …unsure of the reasonings for my last transfer. I do not believe my performance was lacking but must assume that my presence here is of higher importance.” The inherent arrogance of the Vulcan woman’s last statement was not intended as such but was more of a natural happenstance given the Vulcan people’s penchant for logic. She really had not received any notices on her file or cited in her transfer so perhaps her take on things was correct. This was also the longest statement she had made to date to the Counselor.

T’Shura Sci

Briefly glancing about her file for any indication of notation on the reasoning behind her recent transfer, she found T’Shura’s comment to be sound. Although, it was hard not to, judging by the inherent logic of her people. “I see. You may be right. The Viking is always searching for officers who, as many out it: ‘have what it takes’ to deal with the vast idiosyncrasies of this ship.” Beveres noted the length of her statement in comparison to any of the others. Progress, she hoped that meant, but knew nothing more than the hope her patient, whose species might suggest vast rationality, she could only assume would find illogical. “Of all of your assignments, which do you find was the most contributive as your growth as a Starfleet Officer? And for what reason may that be?”

Lt. Beveres
CNS

T’Shura was a bit surprised by the question but impressed by the Counselor’s insightful question. It was not a run of the mill Counseling question and caught her interest. She took a moment to consider the question before answering. “I would have to say the Olympic as it was my first posting after the Academy. Even with the thorough training I received at Starfleet, I feel that I did not actually absorb the actual training until I experienced actual shipboard action and could apply my academic knowledge to real life situations. It is a challenge that continues to feed my curiosity and interest enough that I still find my service rewarding.”
