Ensign Luna was staring at the veow screen shocked by what she was seeing. She was currently at the security station. She was pulled out of her stunned silence by the XO’s voice. She quietly started keying camand into the computer she wanted to cross reference the scorch marks on the side of the ship with the weapons of know species that traveled near the nebula. That would tell her what kind of ships to be on the lookout for if I was an atack.
Ensign Luna

There would be no known pattern of weapon that made scorch Mark’s like that. Due to the grade of duranium and other alloys making up the hull of the vessel it would have taken a high grade heat to cause the scorching on the hull. However, it mostly resembled being bathed in fires hit enough to burn through the shields.

“ camander it’s like the ship was set on Fire” Luna said looking at the results. She thought for a moment “ are there any species native to this nebula” Luna asked.
Ensign Luna

“Lieutenant?” Nevin said looking for T’Shuru’s insight into native species.

-Akorem

“Checking, sir.” T’Shura mentally chastised herself. It should have been her first check. She quickly tapped into the library computer to see if there were any known races or planets within range of this nebula. Also she checked to see if this was on any trade routes.

T’Shura Sci

Reduced to a mere passenger, the Viking’s former captain had no remit to be told the details of their current mission. It was only through idle chatter in the Heorot that she had learned of their destination at all. But idling in her empty quarters while the action continued without her had been a torturously impossible task, antithesis to every strand of human and Klingon dna within her.

Stepping, without invitation, onto the bridge, Nakuto’s purposeful strides brought her level with the centre seat before the shame of reality flushed her cheeks and she retreated quickly to the nearest wall. This space, so familiar, so enticing still, was no longer her domain. She could not afford to forget that.

Kara’s uninvited presence did not go un-noticed by Nevin who had been expected Ravenfall to exit the turbolift doors when he heard them part. Nevertheless, he was greatful of her presence, and heaven forbid, should the need for her to take command be required, he knew he could trust both her ability and that the crew would follow her.

“Captain,” Nevin said simply as a greeting and subtly tell her that despite not being invited, she was welcome to remain.

Nakuto smiled at Nevin’s usage of her current rank but former position and returned the nod with gratitude, drawing strength from being back on the bridge of the Viking, no matter the capacity.

On the viewscreen the nebula glowed ominously before them, the antique vessels like flies caught within the tangled web of a giant arachnid. Nakuto took a moment to study the image in fascinated horror, before shuffling quietly over to the engineering station and Lieutenant Stone.

“The morning’s diagnostics are…satisfactory, Sir,” she whispered to her de-facto boss. “The warp core is as stable as I’ve seen it in a long time, impulse engines online and at full power. But,” she added as her eyes were once more drawn towards the nebula, “if we get caught by the gravitational pull of that thing, I’m not sure we’d have sufficient strength to get ourselves out again.”

Kara Nakuto

Luna smiled at the captain. “ nice to see you out and about captain, your welcome over here two sets of eyes are better then one” Luna offered quietly. She wanted to give the captain something to keep her out of anyone’s way. And there was more then enough room for her to join at the security station.
Ensign Luna

“Thank you, Ensign,” Kara replied quietly to Luna, drifting over to her station and peering over her folded wings at the security console readouts.

No known native species would be present in the database. In fact, no signs of life have ever been detected in the nebula itself. Just the reports of seeing ghosts, demons, and other things not of this universe. Most reports would be of something with murderous intent. A few others where people felt as though they were being watched at all times.

-GM

Being watched at all times. That was a sensation wholly familiar to the crew of the Viking. To other vessels, it was doubtless that the nebula represented a place of fear and uncertainty, a fragile barrier between the world that they knew and the one they only encountered in their nightmares. But to the men and women onboard the Viking it seemed like just another day at the office. So far.

Her brown eyes scanning the occupants of the room, Nakuto turned to face them then gave voice to one of the hundreds of questions jostling for attention in her chaotic thoughts.

“Are we reading the chemical composition of the nebula and surrounding space?” she enquired. “Any gasses that might be responsible for causing hallucinations?”

Kara Nakuto

“No known documented species within the nebula,” T’Shura reported then at Nakuto’s question her eyes returned to the scans to see what the chemical composition of the nebula was. She did not report about the supposed sightings of phantasms. There had been enough rumors about that and she would not report it without scientific evidence and facts.

T’Shura Sci

“Thankyou,” Nevin said politely. Whilst the gesture would not mean anything to his vulcan colleague, it was important that the rest of the officers present hear his grattitude and that he would not treat T’Shura any differently. To Nevin, such common courtesy was instinctive; engrained into his nature.

He stared intently at the two ships hanging in the nebula on the viewscreen. The CO was taking a long time to report to the bridge, or even acknowledge his signal. He considerred the thought that he was already succombing to the effects of the nebula. Then considerred if he was being paranoid about that. After a moment he forced himself to refocus his thoughts away from the self-destructive cycle in which they had drifted.

It was not going to be long before the decision on which ship to intercept first and it was possible that he would need to make that decision. As he waited for the information regarding the composition of the nebula, he was waying up the pros and cons of intercepting each ship first. He was considerring factors such as distance from the perimeter, distance from their current position, chances of finding working equipment that would indicate what had happened…

-Akorem

The moments seemed to last forever.

“Plot a course for the Ambassador class ship,” Nevin said, “Raise shields.”

He returned to his place and sat again in the centre seat awaiting the CO’s arrival.

Peter stood up, giving Captain Nakuto a brief nod before calling out “Yellow alert” He spoke firmly Executing the XO’s orders before he looked at Luna “Please send someone to check on the Captain in her quarters, we may be having problems either with the internal Comms or Lift systems” He turned to the Bajoran Commander opened his mouth but closed it almost immediately, sitting down once more on his left and leaned in “I’ve been in a constant state of dread since we got this mission and it’s growing the closer we get to our destination. I’m getting the impression from the rest of the crew that the feeling isn’t just paranoia” He whispered slowly, in a steady and calm voice “I recommend that we send whatever Civilians we have and secure them in the Mess Hall until further notice. To keep them from wandering and doubling on no one being alone” He started leaning back before stopping himself “Who did you assign to watch over Young Antos?” He asked wanting to get this done before they’d arrive at their destination.

“ just a moment sir” Luna said then buzzed herself sending a general call to sacuruty staff to check the captains Quarters for her.” The message is sent sir I’ll send I’ll let you know as soon as I here something” Luna said.
Ensign Luna

Viktoryia’s voice Trimbled as she finally make contact with the bridge =/\= sorry for the delay Commander I’m on my way=/\= as she turned to leave the thunderdome she turned to the other occupants. Those on the bridge would hear as she finally caught her breath=/\=get him to sickbay=/\=

A few minutes later Viktoryia stepped onto the bridge “what have we got Commander?”

Ravenfall, CO

As Ravenfall finally appeared on the bridge, Kara stood to attention and offered a salute as she formally, if somewhat redundantly, announced to all, “Captain on the bridge.”

This was her first encounter with her new Commanding Officer. Her first glimpse of the woman who had taken her place. Nakuto watched the other closely, interested not only to see how she would perform under their current state of emergency but also, how the events that had led them here and the omnipresent weight of Viking command was affecting her.

Returning to the engineering station, the half-Klingon’s hands moved urgently across the nearest glowing panel.
“I am rerouting as much power as we can spare to the structural integrity fields,” she stated, the fear that their vessel was about to be torn apart almost tangible to the former engineer.

Kara Nakuto

Luna quietly sent an update to security that the captain had been found and was alright. She looked across the bridge to Kara.” Kara take a deep breath and try to stay calm. It’s hard to think straight when your agitated” Luna said with a smile.
Ensign Luna

Peter stood up as the Captain entered out of habit. He looked over at Kara as she appeared to be slightly nervous. It was odd seeing her like that, besides sitting in a work station and not the central chair. He turned to Captain Ravenfall “We’re approaching an Ambassador Class ship at the precipice of the Nebula. It’s a veritable graveyard out there.”
