Kristi frowned. “Honey, I’m sorry you’ve seen monsters. But the shadows aren’t bad. I’ll show you. Can you stay up here and not disappear again? If so, I’ll even let you stay till your mommy comes back in.” She knew it was a long shot, trying to get a toddler to agree to anything. But she had to make her promise. Perhaps if no other reason than get her to not flit about in case she was in the wrong place when the shuttle returned.

She stood up and moved to the door and waited for the child’s answer. There was a place on the hanger floor were the light wasn’t working. She would step into that dark space and show the child there was nothing to be afraid of.

Crenity scream it was high pinched and blood curdling.” Leave her alone” the child yealed. Kristy would feel as if sumthing were watching them.

At the helm, Kara activated a communications channel to the CoS. =^=Lieutenant Darz, this is Cap…” she paused. Swallowed hard. “This is Nakuto. Can you send a team to investigate corridor F on deck 27. Potentially suspicious activity being noted in the abandoned crew quarters on that level.=^=

Turning back to Stone, Kara shrugged. “We never did get a positive identification on our saboteur,” she mused aloud. “Have their been further incidents while I have been gone?”

Kara Nakuto

“No, not as obvious as the sabotage with cut wires was. And unfortunately, the identity of the saboteur is still unknown. There were a few personell shifts since then, whoever it was could be long gone.” Mike replied. Or just laying low until they strike again He thought and sighed slightly, as he remembered what his primary mission on this ship was supposed to be. But as much as taking the CE position seemed like a good idea at the time, it kept him far too busy in engineering to do much else.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kalika’s voice came back on the comms, =^=I’m heading there now, Ma’am… I’ll report when there.=^= The comm went silent.

Mike wasn’t too happy, and you could tell by the grumpy voice. “I’m not sure it’s smart for her to go on her own. If the shuttle was spotted, most likely who ever was there already split. But still, if it’s some other kind of glitch it’s good to at least have someone as backup or to report back what happened.” He looked at Kara. She was a victim of one such ‘glitch’ and dissapeared for a whole year. Mike definately didn’t want anyone else to experiance anything similar.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Nakuto studied her co-pilot closely. In her years serving by his side, she had never seen Mike Stone show even a trace of fear for the entities onboard the Viking. That was not to say that he was unmoved by the nature of the vessel and its ethereal inhabitants. But still, he was nothing if not stoic. A rock.

But in that moment, or so it seemed to her, Mike Stone seemed…unhappy? Nervous? She was failing to identify his precise emotion, but it caused a knot to form in the pit of her stomach all the same. As if somewhere, deep in the recesses of her mind, a klaxon was sounding. A warning.

“Agreed,” she nodded, before reaching once more towards the comms panel.
=^=Lieutenant Darz, do NOT go alone. Understand?=^= She had no remit to deliver orders to other members of this crew, each and every one of them outranking her in position if not in title. But she hoped that some small memory of her previous command might linger in the mind of Kalika Darz. And that the Orion might take it as sufficient justification to listen and to obey.

In the deep velvet of space, the small shuttle held its position outside of the same windows, their rogue lighting now extinguished, but the warning it had sounded in no way lessened by the sudden dark.

=^=We will hold our position here=^= she concluded. =^=Keep in contact, Lieutenant.=^=

Off to their left and still lingering in their peripheral vision, the Viking’s peverted figurehead began to clap its hands, an expression of malevolent delight contorting its features. Were sound waves able to propagate through the space, then Kara felt sure they would have heard the statue laughing.

Something was coming.

Kara Nakuto

“Please tell me I’m not the only one that sees that.” Luna said.

Kalika heard the order and responded to the frenzied panic she heard in the voice, or imagined. =^= Kalika here… I understand. Grabbing backup.=^= She clicked off the comm and headed towards the given coordinates as she tapped her badge, =^=Ensign Sharvi, meet me on Deck 27 at Junction E. Come armed. =^= The last she added with an after thought.

Making her way to the meeting spot, she waited for Tath. For some reason, he was the first one who came to mind to watch her back. If asked, she probably couldn’t have said why.

“Well you don’t survive on Viking long, if you make bad calls. Exploring alone can be quite dangerous.” Mike said. Kara and some others already learned that lesson.

“There’s still nothing on the scanners? I hope it was just a false alarm.”

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kristi moved down to the hanger floor as the child watched. Moving to the far side, she smiled up at the little winged cherub. “See, there is nothing in the shadows, little one.” She stepped backwards, keeping an eye on the kid as she moved into the dark spot in the corner of the bay.

((Ooc… Still got Kristi and the kid… I’ve told Tath about the tag… Meli))

“On my way” he said getting up from the security office where he was going over paperwork Lt. Darz gave him to complete. “Of all the security officers for her backup, why would she choose me?” He thought to himself as he ran to the coordinates.

Crenity follows Kristi. When she stepped into the corner the child screamed. “ leave her alone go away”. She then flew at Kristi grabbed her arm and tried to pull her out of the shadows. “ they want to eat you” she screamed.
Crenity

Kristi gasped and knelt down with the child’s hands in her own. “Hey, hey… it’s all right. They aren’t going to eat me. I promise.” She wasn’t sure why the child was so panicked, but hearing her scream on the still open comms probably wasn’t the best thing to incite. “It’s all right…” Without thinking, she picked the young girl up and craddled her close, mindful of the tender wings on the child’s back. She moved away from the shadows cooing and shushing the girl hoping to calm her.

Kalika smiled as Tath came around the corner. “We are going in there,” she pointed to a room a few doors down the darkened corridor, “the shuttle scanning the hull claimed there is a figure and lights in there. It’s an off limits area and no one should be in there.” She then turned and pulled her phaser before heading down the hall. She tapped her comm badge. =^= Shuttle, this is Darz… we are at the room. Do you still want us to check it out?=^=

She glanced back at Tath to be sure he was ready.

Kalika
CoS

“I’m ready.” He said with his phaser pointed toward the door.
