Kalika had woken up two days ago on her couch, alone, after Tath had left sometime in the middle of the night. She had seen him the next day and sent him to work with another NE on patrolling another part of the ship. They had exchanged an ocassional intimate touch, a brush of fingers on the back of the hand, a small caress to the arm as they passed. But she had gone back to her quarters alone the next night. She wanted to be sure, for them both, that it was real. Today, she had been with the Captain discussing the change in course and possibilities of opening new areas of the ship. Stone and O’Larria had been opening sections of the ship previously dead and she wanted to move barriers back to see if the ship would allow them to remain stable. It had kept her away from her office all day.

As the second shift finished their first reports, upstairs in the Security office, Kalika was keyed in and began reading them. Cell three was blinking once more. The shield up and the phantom prisoner pacing. She was used to it and ignored it like always. Her head was down and she was humming a Klingon ballad as she worked on the reports, her hair released from it’s usual ponytail. The tresses dropping around her face, nearly blocking her vision to the main corridor outside her door.

At the end of his shift, he came up to her office door. He looked around before saying, “Hey Kal. How was your day?”

Kalika looked up and smiled. It was warmer than she realized as her mind registered who it was. “It was good. Stone and O’Larri have opened a couple more sections of the quarters deck. Captain’s looking into moving the barriers back to see if we can maintain the stability.”

She leaned back and looked up at him. “Was NE Acres alright this afternoon? I know you guys were checking upper deck barriers. Nothing changed I hope.” She laughed slightly, but it was tired, “At least not for the worse, I hope?” They had gone a week with nothing changing on the ship. Personnel counts remained steady, and no new issues had arisen.

“He’s a good officer. I miss working with you, though, but I know you’ve been busy doing stuff for the captain. Nothing has changed that will negatively impact the ship.” He said. “But if you’re free, I was thinking we could get some dinner together?” He suggested.

She was glad nothing negative had happened. “Dinner sounds good. Haven’t eaten all day.” It was normal for her, but this time, perhaps because he mentioned it, she was starving.

Getting up and moving to join him, she smiled. “So where do you want to go.” She hadn’t responded to his missing her. She missed him, too. But she was still curious if he truly wanted to be with her, or had merely gotten caught up in the moment last time.

When she had gotten closer, he pulled her in and kissed her. “Well, I’ve only gotten to check out Ten Forward since arriving to the ship, you know of somewhere else?” He asked after the kiss.

His grip of tugging her close pulled a small gasp of surprise which disappeared into his mouth with the kiss. Her hands went to his chest to keep from falling. “It depends… Ten Forward is a good place to eat. Or our quarters.” She didn’t even realize that she’d offered privacy as an option.

“We could go to the quarters. You’re replicator is just as good as real food.” He thought if they went to the quarters, she would be more relaxed than in public, since no one on the ship really knew they were getting together yet, and didn’t want her to get in trouble with rumors of fratenization with a younger enlisted.

She nodded and laughed. “We’ll have to get yours fixed if there’s any bugs in it. If you want to go change and come to my quarters, I’ll make dinner.” She smiled as they reached the turbolift.

“Honestly, haven’t even used the thing yet.” He laughed and went to his quarters. H got out of his uniform and put some on semi formal klingon wear. He changed his baldric from the silver he wears on duty to the gold one.
On his way to Kalika’s quarters, he stopped and got some flowers. Then he knocked on her door.

Kalika went to her room and cleaned up. When the door chimed, she came out and took a deep breath. When she opened the door, Tath would see her in a near ankle length dress of different layers of green gauze that set off her skin and hair and made it shine. Her hair was loose down her back, nearly to her hips, pulled back with a silver comb. She was barefoot, having not considered them because she wasn’t leaving her room. Her smile lit up as she saw the flowers. “Tath.. come in,” she stepped back to let him in. “The flowers are beautiful.”

She opened the door and he was taken aback from her beauty. Every time he had seen her was in uniform. “You are very beautiful Kal. I like that dress.” He said handing her the flowers. “Do you need help preparing anything for the night?” He asked. He was nervous, he wondered if she still thought he was only doing this because of her pheramones.

His compliments and the flowers actually made her blush. The light green skin tinting with a soft red undertone. “Thank you, Tath. And no… Nothing to help with. I’ve already programmed the dishes.” She moved to the table that was already set for two. She set the flowers in the middle of the table figuring she get a vase for them later.

She tapped the replicator then glanced over her shoulder. “What would you like to drink?” Small serving dishes began appearing which she moved to set on the table.

There was jlnjoq bread, gagh, and a platter of wing slug. While the spiciness if Orion food was considered over the top, Kalika’s own rendition of the skin dish wasn’t near the level of spiciness most would consider ‘proper’. She set the final dish down and smiled waiting for his drink choice.

“Raktajino, please.” He said watching her work the machine. He had not been on the ship long and was already making relationships with the crew. His first day of duty was encountered by ghosts, and seen the CMO just disappear in sickbay, how could it be any crazier than that. He scratched that thought, thinking he might not want to know the answer.

Kalika smiled. “Hot ok?” She asked. When he nodded, she ordered two. Then remembered and also got a vase with water after the coffees arrived.

Putting the flowers into the water, she then brought Tath the coffee in a glass my sitting on a small matching saucer. Her own cup get other hand. “I hope you’re settling in ok?”

If he was looking around, he’d see the box of collectables by window. A couple Orion daggers and a worn bat’leth were near the top. The bat’leth had a House seal etched on the side of it that he’d recognize.

As she was getting everything ready, he studied the room more than he did the first night he was here. He came across the Bat’leth that night, but didn’t really focus on it. This time, he could see the house crest implanted on it. He smirked at the thought of the house it represents.
“You’re fiancee was from the Great House of Duras?” He asked. “I remember I had sparred with a warrior from that house. He cheated, and was caught, I still won the match honorably, then his father exciled him from thier house.” He reminisced not realizing he was talking so much.

As Tath spoke of her ex, she frowned slightly. “That’s odd, he never mentioned a disgrace in his House.” A small smile lit her face as she leaned on the back of the couch near him. “He had been in a fight before Starfleet. A battle for the House’s honor. He claimed the other man cheated…”she suddenly wasn’t smiling anymore, “and was sent away in disgrace.”

She stood up and took a couple steps back as she shook her head ever so slightly. “No…” Her mind was whirling. Was Tath lieing? She backed up enough to bump the table. Seeing her shaking cup of coffee down, she looked at him. Her voice choked slightly as she tried to speak. “One of you is lieing…” The lights in the room flickered then dimmed without going out.

“Lights, full on,” she tried coax the computer but she couldn’t stop staring at Tath. There had to be a mistake. His brother, another House branch, something…

“It doesn’t surprise me he wouldn’t own up to it being himself. The House of Duras is filled with klingons who have either betrayed the Empire, or decieved someone over something.” He told her. “I mean, I guess now is a good time to tell you I’m really the heir of Martok, my actual name is Tath’ihl Martok, but he gave me away as a child and protected the Sharvi’s house because he wants me to be the next head of the Great House of Martok, when he dies.” The Ghost from the other night appeared in the room and pointed at Tath, but stared at Kal. Tath moved to stand in front of Kal.

Kalika bit her lip to stifle a growl. He had lied. Had it all been a lie? As her mind reached her lips, she collapsed into the chair. “He said he couldn’t take me home till good grandfather died. Said he hated Orions. But his dad didn’t mind. We just had to wait a while longer.” She didn’t want to know, but the wound was open now. She had to poke at it. “That was a lie, too.”

She got up and slammed her first against the control panel, “Lights full!” She demanded. The lights flickered once more then returned to fill brilliance. Choosing anger over pity, she turned to Tath. “Well there it is… The truth about your Security Chief. Too blind to see, and engaged to a traitor. Still interested?”

She threw her arms wide a moment. She was giving him a chance to go. She had fallen for it all. She was probably a joke, if anyone else was even aware.
