Nevin entered the shuttlebay and headed for the shuttle that was already being prepped for they’re mission.

“We ready?” he asked those already present when he entered the cockpit.

-Akorem

Already strapped into the pilot’s seat, Kara Nakuto was in the process of completing her pre-flight checklist. She had full confidence that the Viking’s brilliant engineering team had already prepped the shuttle to perfection, but for her the formality served as an essential distraction from the trepidation churning tumultuously in the pit of her stomach.

Barely more than a year ago she had been in this same position, Naglfar packed to the seams with her brightest and best people as she plummeted them keenly towards the land of the pyramids. In those early days hope had been easier to come by, the superficial facade of the power that Starfleet could wield through them a false beacon against the dark. But their optimism had been crushed like paper at the climax of a mission that saw her in danger of destroying her entire crew and ultimately leaving a man behind.

It was a vastly different Nakuto who now sat at the controls of the Naglfar. Not only changed in rank and position but also in every facet that could be observed to make up a sentient being. Gone was the hope for a successful mission, the belief that, by staying true to their orders they could not fail to win, the idea that through all of them, the Federation offered a grand and noble good for the benefit of the entire universe. And in its place only a singular, obsessive thought - that whatever happened here, she would never again leave a man behind.

Checks completed, the half-Klingon jabbed at a button and the shuttle purred steadily to life, the vibration of energised plasma pulsing through its conduits like the blood in her own veins offering a measure of calm.

…that calm was shattered at the sound of a familiar voice. Akorem Nevin. Barely succeeding in swallowing the primal sigh that swelled within her chest, Kara spun her seat in a smooth half-circle to meet her First Officer.

“Commander Akorem,” she acknowledged him with all of the faux-pleasantry she could muster which, while sufficient to not provoke a conflict, would in no measure leave the Bajoran feeling warm and fuzzy. “I did not expect you to be joining us.”

Kara Nakuto (engineer and pilot)

“Wel I am here,” Nevin replied. Nevin had never felt eager to be part of an away mission since Antos’ birth. The risk grated against his paternal instincts. That said, he was ever the professional and had always put his personal feelings aside. This mission was different. For some unknown reason he wanted to go and get on with it without giving a thought to his son…

-Akorem

Shortly after camander Akorem sat down Luna entered the shuttle. “ I apologize for taking so long I had to make shure Loki was up to taking care of Crenity” Luna said as she found her seat. Loki had slowly settled back into the ship but there was still quiet a bit of tenchon between the pair. Perhaps after this mission was over they would get a chance to go on shure leave and Crenity could finly meet her grandparents.

Kalika nodded to each person as they entered, as she made sure everyone was there and she waited for Tath to bring the weapons she had requested.

=^=“Yes, Ma’am. On my way.” =^= He hurried to the shuttle bay. He frowned when he saw her putting gear on to enter the shuttle. He handed her one of the rifles and pistols, and told her, “I wish I was going with you, for multiple reasons, but be safe out there Ma’am.”

Kalika took the rifles from Tath and sighed. “I need you here.” As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she had a flash of her past. This is how it had been before, but roles reversed. She set her hand on Tath’s chest, not even realizing someone else may see from the shuttle. “Please… Don’t make my mistake. Don’t hate yourself if something happens. If it does, the Captain will need you. Promise me. You need to see to the ship’s safety. It was something I didn’t, couldn’t, do afterwards.” She dropped her hand and winked, smiling, “I’ll be back before you know it, so don’t get too attached to being in charge.”

“I promise Kal. It will be OK. We will be back together in no time.” He was careful with making sure she was the only one to hear him call her out of rank. To not arrive suspicion, he added “Ma’am, I’ll miss you on my daily patrols.”

She smiled brighter than he’d seen in the last few days since they admitted their feelings for one another. “I know… take care of my ship, Tath,” she said. Then as she headed for the shuttle, called over her shoulder. “I don’t want a scratch in her, you hear?” She laughed and entered the shuttle.

Moving to see the others, she handed the XO one of the rifles. “I figured better safe than sorry.” She nodded to him and hoped he understood it was her way of looking out for him. Moving up to Kara, she patted the woman’s shoulder. “Stick with us, Ma’am… we’ll bring you home safe.” She winked at Luna and added, “Cause that’s how we are all coming back… safe and sound.” It wasn’t a question, but a statement in fact.

“Weapons locked on stun, please,” Nevin instructed, “If we’re gonna get paranoid, let’s not accidentally kill each other.”

-Akorem

T’Shura was one of the last one’s to enter the shuttlebay at a brisk walk. Her science kit hung on her shoulder.”My apologies for my tardiness, Commander.” She said tersely with no explanation as she boarded the shuttle.

“No apology required, Lieutenant, you’re not late for another 30 seconds or so,” Nevin said with a smile. He checked everyone was present and then gave the instruction to depart as he took his own seat…

-Akorem

Kalika strapped in and nodded to the science officer. “Ready..” she grinned with a wink at the others. Thankfully she wasn’t going down alone. But she was also grateful Tath stayed behind. He’d do well on the ship.

OOC: I’m back and I want to get stuck in.

OOC: No Problem :)

IC: “Wait, I’m coming as well.” The drone with the lilac hair stated, running into the shuttlecraft at a sprint. Reira didn’t even seem out of breath as he sat down, navy blue eyes scanning the room. He was wearing a science officer uniform with the rank of Ensign but it didn’t hang off him like it used too. He seemed to have put on some muscle mass and his hair was longer than it used to be.

Luna jumped up from her seat “ Reira” she said exactly. She half wanted to hug him but if she remembered correct she like her had some issues with physical contact. “ you look so much better I’m glad to see you again” Luna said with a smile. She half wondered if his insain father was still alive but that was a question for another time.

Nevin welcomed Reira with a smile. He specifically had not requested Reira for the away team purely because he didn’t want to rush the ensign into the thick of things. Nonetheless he was greatful. Riera’s science & engineering skills were ideally suited to what they were about to potentially. He knew that both the CNS & CSO would never have allowed Riera to come to the shuttlebay were the shuttlebay if they suspected a problem and also that whilst young, the borg-influenced logic that the ensign possessed would prevail.

“Glad to have you aboard,” Nevin said as the hatch closed behind Riera. The shuttle was now full to it’s seating capacity, and the only available seat was next to the bajoran XO.

After a few moments the shuttle took flight heading for the Ambassador Class ship and he began briefing the officers.

“Our first objective is to establish exactly what happened on that ship. To that end we need to obtain the black box flight data data recorders. Nakuto, Luna & T’Shura, head to engineering to check the one in the CE’s office. Kalika, Akaba & I will head for the one on the bridge. Once that information has been sent back to the Viking we’ll be in a better position to know why the ship appears abandoned & stuck here. Be careful, and keep your eyes open.”

T’Shura nodded in acknowledgement of the order.

The short shuttle flight should only take about two minutes. “How are we looking, Captain?” Nevin asked their pilot.

-Akorem

Luna noded and simply lisoned to the XO give instructions as she dobble and triple checked her gear.

Kalika raised a curious brow as the science Ensign rushed aboard. She knew if him only thru the personnel briefs she received. He hadn’t appeared on a restricted duty for a couple days, do she didn’t react other than a slight smile and nod. As Nevin gave instructions, she made enough mental notes to keep her in top of things. Despite escorting the XO, she was still responsible for everyone.

She did smile as Luna lit up. It was nice to see the girl so animated. She also made a note to speak to the woman soon. She’d hardly had time to get with each of her personnel lately. Luna’s newest handful was always a joy to run into in the corridors. But she imagined the mom and dad of the rather bold and explorative child, were run ragged. She let the two get reacquainted. It was another notch in her ‘acceptance’ column that Luna thought that way about him.

There would be someone else rushing in, well..not rushing in. Kaylia calmly walked through the shuttle bay and up the ramp to get on board. Giving a look to whom all was there for this mission. Toating just regular equipment for an away mission and engineer. Her tail swishing back and forth as she gave a little five fingered, wiggled, wave to everyone. “Sorry. Got delayed.” Giving a reach up to paw her right feline ear on the top of her head. Sitting down, “So if I get her working again, do I get to keep her?” Giving a bit of a cheeky grin.
