From a darkened corner, a shape began to grow and appear. From that darkness the shape moved to the light and revealed as a hobbled old man in rags. His skin seemed to hang from his bones like aged leather. Almost as if his skin and rags would tear and fall off at any moment. Wild, piercing blue eyes darted back and forth as he lurched forward on his walking stick. The stick he held to for support showed gnarled signs of aging. The rotting at the top end held maggots in the mass of knots. A few of the grubs fell to the floor as he hobbled forth toward the Chief Engineer. A raspy voice like that of sandpaper spoke. “Interesting cave you have here. Knob can see why the worms like it.” He rapped his walking stick against the panelling nearby before licking his lips. “Knob approves of his new home. So many tasty treats in his cave.”

Ooc: for a more clear note of what he is like physically. Think of when Jafar dressed as the old man in the first Alladdin animated film.

Mike was startled at first. Repulsed a little as well. But he instantly gathered his cool. Halucinations? He wondered. He looked around at engineers, if anyone else has spotted this new arrival.

“You say your name is Knob? What are you, where do you come from exacly?” He asked loud enough others could hear him. He wished he had his tricorder, but it was on the desk in his office and he almost didn’t dare to move, or this creature might dissapear before he had a chance to scan the surroundings.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kristi had been around the corner checking one of the conduit panels when Stone finished his warning to everyone. Coming back around, her voice rose to catch Mike’s attention. “Panel four is fine…oh!” A startled gasp finished her sentence as she found herself merely a couple arm’s length from the stranger.

He was facing Stone and Kristi had come up on his right. She bit her lip as she glanced from him to her supervisor and back… too stunned to say anything.

Kaylia had just finished her checks for things and came around from the other direction. Tilting her head a little to the left side, her tail standing on end now. “Really. I am getting so sick of these apparitions. I’ve dealt with three so far. This makes four.” She was not at all surprised, or disturbed by it. “Chief..your best bet is just to ignore it. Go about your business. If necessary I will deal with it.”

Mike’s head turned only for a second to notice Kristi, but he looked immediately back at the unusual person. “Kristie, be a dear and go grab my tricorders from my office, please. One is on the table, but I’d like the one in my bottom drawer as well. ” He said in a casual, patronising tone, almost like a Father would talk to his daughter.

Her shocked expression was enough, to tell him he wasn’t the only one seeing things.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kristi had done as suggested and came out to hand Mike the requested instruments. Even if they were apparitions, she agreed with her CE, they needed reading. She didn’t believe in ghosts, so this had to be something else. “Here, Sir…”

She then moved to another console to run a scan of engineering. She half wondered if the apparition was being transmitted like the AI doctors on some ships and the holodeck programs.

“Thanks.” Mike said simply, then started a scan on his tricorder. Even though it was engineer’s it would still show, if what he is seeing is a living creature or something else. While the scan was taking it’s course, he checked his ‘other’ tricorder was set to heavy stun.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Knob hobbled around the area while the scans registered. He was indeed a living creature, male, and registered as human. Though, what part of him might look as such was either covered with dirty rags or grungy. Not to mention the lack of teeth and now that more wore close to him, the smell. His body reeked of rotten food. His frown at Kaylia making him look like he was centuries older. “Knob no like you!” Before whacking her in the shin with his gnarled walking staff. “Only food Knob wants.” His piercing blue eyes staring into Kaylia’s for far longer than should be comfortable. His state was unblinking, unmoving.

“Well if you promise not to hurt anyone else with that stick of yours, we’ll get one of our people to escort you to the mess hall. We have a lot of different kinds of dishes there, and our replicators can even create unique dishes on the fly.” Mike put his tricorder away. It said it was human which to him ment it could be delt with. How he came on board and what was he doing here were of course interesting questions with hopefully an answer soon.

He tapped his badge =/\= Lt. Stone to Security. I need someone to escort an unregistered person called Mr. Knob from engineering. Get him something to eat and probably he’ll need a bath. =/\= Hopefully they will also get some answers from him.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

The strange man’s eyes widened, “Knob won’t go! Knob must stay in his cave!” He hobbled faster than should be possible while leaning on his staff and rounded a corner out of sight in a dead end corner of Engineering. Anyone following him would find him gone and nowhere in sight.

-GM

“Wait!” For some unknown reason, Kristi brushed past her supervisor to see where the man was going. Rounding the corner, she came up short with a gasp, “WHA!” She shook her head and her face wasn’t hiding the confusion she was sensing. “He’s gone!” She said with enough conviction and confusion to make it plain she wasn’t teasing.

Frowning, she shook her head and went to the panel on the wall. It was still secured so she went to the nearest station and grabbed what she needed before going to see about removing the panel to see what was behind it. Surely he had merely crawled into one of the endless maintenance tunnels… that had to be it.
