Elias had always liked Sickbay. She had spent a lot of time there on the Hesiod when she was doing her own research on pharmacology and its applications on a starship. Plus her work as a biologist meant there were often cross-overs in the two disciplines.

She stepped through the doors and flagged down one of the nursing staff. “I am here for my boarding physical.” She said, flatly. “Lieutenant Elias Lenka.”

Lenka was not prone to flowery speech; she just got to the point.

The NE, his arm full of various pieces of medical equipment nodded in the direction of a lone man in the centre of sickbay who appeared to be running scans on something in a petri dish. “Doctor Harrington can help you with that,” he said briefly before moving off to deliver his load.

As Lenka got closer to the man, she would notice that despite his Medical uniform he looked like he ought more to be a patient than a doctor. His face was gaunt, and it was obvious he had lost a lot of weight recently as his uniform didn’t quite fit him the way it should. He was deeply engorsed in the scans he was reading.

Lenka took in the man’s appearance as she approached, taking note of his thin face and baggy uniform. Though she not ought to judge, she wondered if the medical team here took care of themselves as they did the others.

“Excuse me, Doctor.” She said, giving him a chance to finish his work. “My apologies for the interruption,,” she was quite formal in her speech. It might have almost been Vulcan-like, but she carried a certain tone; irony? Self-assurance? Maybe even arrogance. “I have recently arrived on the Viking and am reporting for my physical examination. I am Lieutenant Elia Lenka.” She did not offer a hand shake that was a custom, seemingly inherited from Humans, and one she did not particularly enjoy. “Do you have a moment?”

The CMO appeared behind and just out of Lenka’s vision, silently and without notice, unless you were Harrington who would see the older man with thinning hair just standing there, watching the Ensign with intense eyes, as if he was judging his beside manner, and well, everything about him.

Dr. Stein, CMO

Harrington finished off the scan and placed the dish down on the table in front of him. “No trouble at all Lieutenant,” he smiled turning around to face Lenka and made eye contact with Dr. Stein over her shoulder instead. Giving no indication that he had seen the CMO other than the brief eye contact, David guestured to an empty bio-bed “If you’ll just take a seat,” he said walking over to the bed trying not to think too much of Steins hawk eyes watching and judging his every move. Just breath he reminded himself silently He’s probably just observing, you don’t exactly look like the worlds most competent doctor.

“Is there anything I should know about medically?” he asked once she was comfortably seated.

Lenka took a seat on the bio-bed as indicated. “Nothing that bothers me now.” She replied. “Though about five years ago I suffered cerebral edema from a fall on an away mission. It was treated successfully, and apart from a few headaches, I suffered few after effects.”

Elia was, like her entire species, somewhat cat-like in her mannerisms; she watched his every move with an idle curiosity, almost as if she were conducting her own informal assessment. Her work-mates had often found it disconcerting and she had, on occasion, been called out for it by her various Chiefs. She had never really changed, though.

“I am quite eager to get this examination completed quickly, doctor.” She said this without contempt, but there was denying it was rude, whether intentional or not.

The doctor was either uncaring of her rude attitude or he didn’t notice, he simply hummed and said, “Shouldn’t take more than a few minutes Lieutenant.” With a pace that was neither fast nor slow, David brought the tricorder in his hand to the forefront and started scanning from her feet upwards. Saving her head for last so he could pay extra attention to it. Despite his outward guant apparence, his movements had the professional ease of a man who had done this before.

“What are your first impressions of the Viking?” he asked casually, to pass time as he completed her scans. It was always a good question to ask, particularly on the Viking, because the ship was many different things to different people.
