Elias took a deep breath as she re-materliased on the transporter platform aboard the USS Viking. She always did this; taking in the place where she would be calling home for the foreseeable future.

“Welcome aboard, Lieutenant.” The transporter operator said. “Would you like help with your bag?”

Elias tilted her head and gave a half smile. “I think I can handle one bag, crewman.” She answered, dryly. “But thank you.”

It was her way to being a bit standoff-ish, probably because of her background. Growing up as the youngest daughter of six children to a famous (at least on Ktaris) singer and a poet. Her mother and father, respectively. All of her siblings had gone into the arts, and she had always been and felt like an outsider for her love of all things science.

After dropping off her few belongings in her new quarters (which were just like the ones back on the Hesiod), she made her way promptly to the office of the Chief Science Officer, which the computer handily showed her the way to.

Pressing the door chime, she waited.

Her leaving review would have been transmitted to the Science Chief before her arrival.

It read:

‘Lieutenant Elias Lenka has been a fine addition to my team since her arrival from the Hesiod. She is xeno-biologist, with specialisations in microbiology and biochemistry. While she was here, I believed she worked on personal projects in the sphere of pharmacology and the application of scientific findings to medical practice.

‘Of her professionalism, I have little to call into question. She meets deadlines, is punctual, follows orders and is a good, upstanding officer. If I had to report anything negative about Lenka, is that she can be somewhat abrupt and does not form friendships easily. Among my officers, she was known for being a little cold and distant, preferring to keep all relationships strictly professional.

It should be noted that she received a demotion from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Junior Grade, but the explanation in her files has been labelled ‘classified’, and she has refused to speak of it. I did enquire at this strange note, but my questions to Command were met with silence.

‘But her skill as a scientist makes up for this; Starfleet does not command us to be best friends, but to do our jobs, and Lieutenant Lenka will always do her job.’

Commander Kashif Arim, Chief Science Officer, USS Hesiod.

Lenka stood straight backed as she waited to speak to her new boss … a Ferengi.

As a professional, she would do her job, but she had always had the view that the Ferengi were nothing more than wealth obsessed scavengers. Her prejudices must be put aside, of course - there were many who viewed the Ktarians with a negative slant.

So she waited to see how this would work out.
