OOC: Sorry to push this but we need to progress the sim otherwise we are going to stall before we’re out of the gate.

IC: Shortly before the Viking’s arrival he had requested an away team assemble in the transporter room consisting of himself, Sigmundsson, Beveres, a medical officer of the CMO’s choosing and the minimal security detail that protocol required.

Ensign Von Hellsing had been true to his word with the arrival time and the team had beamed down in accordance with standard procedures for beaming to a firendly colony.

As soon as the transporter beam released him from it’s grip and the golden dots had disipated from his vision, Nevin looked around to take in his new surroundings…

OOC: Thanks Jim :)

IC: The sparkle of the brand new colony was still evident as the metal bulkheads had that polished shine to them and the place still had that fresh out of the shipyard smell to it. As the away team materialised, two officers stepped forward to greet them. The first boasted an impressive physique, his muscular arms threatening to burst through his gold uniform. He took a step forward and extended his hand which was the size of a small dinner plate. “Lt Commander Jacquard, Chief of Security,” he said decisively with just a hint of a French accent.

Jacquard gestured to the young woman next to him who dutifully stepped forward. She was almost comically petite next to the impressive COS, at just 5‘2” she had a delicate grace about her but it was obvious the young woman had been shaken by something. There were unmistakable bags under her eyes and a hint of redness in them as though she had been crying. She cleared her throat and also put a hand out. “Lt Nirim Lazoh, Counsellor,” she added. “I’m sorry we are not meeting under better circumstances. The Admiral wanted to greet you personally but he has only just got hold of Captain Ries’ family…” she cut herself off abruptly and turned away.

“I understand,” Nevin acknowledged

Jacquard quickly stepped forward to take over and let the counsellor compose herself. “Given the nature of the incident, Admiral Aldridge is keen for us to get started if you could follow me?” he asked as he strode towards the door, clearly this was a man that didn’t mince his words.

“I am eager to hear about the incident from your perspective,” Nevin said as the team followed

From the corner of the room, Nirim took a deep breath and turned back to the away team. As she did so, she let out a terrified scream, her face frozen in horror, as she quickly backed away from them until she collided with the bulkhead and slid down it trembling, her eyes wide with fear. Jacquard dashed to her side and knelt down beside her, clearly out of his depth. “Nirim, what is it? What’s wrong?!” he asked frantically, looking across to the away team in the hope that someone was more able to deal with a terrified woman than he was, he was much more used to being the one that struck terror into people. Nirim started to hyperventilate, her eyes glued to a spot behind the away team which seemed to just be the bulkhead.

Mother Hen (GM)

“Counsellor,” Nevin said indicating for Beveres to take a lead. He himself entered the room and looked around with curiosity.

Giving a nod of affirmation, Beveres shot forwards from her idle position, coming to kneel before the young woman.

“Keep her steady, Jaquard.” She spoke softly, a sense of urgency lacing her tone. Hyperventilation could easily lead to dizziness and syncope, things she couldn’t risk. “Nirim,” She refrained from touching her, the horror of what delusion might lay before her a threat she didn’t wish to aggravate. “Can you hear me, Nirim?” She posed the question delicately, but loud enough to attempt to draw the officer’s attention from the bulkhead.

Nirim slowly nodded, almost imperceptibly but kept her eyes glued to the spot on the bulkhead, her breathing getting quicker by the second and her eyes wider. She started shaking her head as tears streamed down her face.

Peter remained silent for the duration of the small interaction prior to the screaming. After initially taking a step forward he paused and moved behind Commander Akorem. The giant of a man turned around and examined the spot the woman seemed to be so terrified. Quietly he grabbed his tricorder and started a passive scan of the area she was looking at, he didn’t expect to see anything of note but examining the spot might be worthwhile to understand what just happened.

CIO

The scans showed there was nothing unusual or abnormal about the spot that the counsellor was fixated on.

“I’m going to ask you to try a few things with me,” A soft smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Her actions may have appeared leisure, but Beveres wasn’t stalling as much as she was trying to promote calm. “Do you think you could do try them?”

LT. Beveres, CNS

Nirim clenched her jaw as she tried to slow her breathing down. Still staring straight ahead she blinked the tears out of her eyes and nodded. “I’ll try…” she replied in a barely audible whisper.

Mother Hen (GM)

“Okay,” Beveres smiled. “Take in a long breath, just like you would if you were inhaling your favourite smell.” It was a distraction method intended to encourage deep breaths and a slower heart rate. “Now, I’m going to have you hold your breath for a few seconds. Do you think you could do that?” She paused, waiting to see.

Lt. Beveres, CNS

Nirim tried to do as Beveres asked a few times, each getting a little easier. Finally she managed to hold her breath for a few seconds as tears dripped on to her tunic. Gradually her breathing started to slow and she grabbed Beveres by the arm, raising a shaky hand towards the spot she had been staring at. “Do you see him?” She whispered, daring for the first time to take her eyes off the bulkhead and look at the fellow counsellor.

Mother Hen (GM)

Beveres turned her head to face the spot Nirim had been staring at, squinting she searched for any sign of what she might have been seeing. “No, I don’t see anything. Could you tell me what you’re seeing?” She tried not to discredit Nirim’s claim that something was there, in hopes of avoiding further paranoia. She wasn’t sure yet if this was some kind of delusion, or another supernatural event the Viking just happened to come into contact with. Either way, it didn’t matter. All that mattered was Nirim and keeping her safe in this state.

Lt. Beveres, CNS

Nevin had remained stood in his place allowing Peter to make his scan discreetly.

“Anything?” he asked in a hushed voice so as not to disturb Beveres’ efforts.

-Akorem

Peter closed the scanner and put it back in its holster “Nothing abnormal, just a simple wall” He said turning back, he answered in a similar hushed voice “Perhaps she should be taken to the closest infirmary, given a neurological scan.” He suggested.

CIO

Ensign Luna quietly followed and watched the Sean unfold. There was no use in acting without information also of more important there was no active threat to the away team. “ are you shure she is not actually seeing something we have had many similar acuteness on the Viking sir” Luna said. Years on the Viking had thought her never to dismiss the unusual.
Ensign Luna

OOC: I hope you guys don’t mind me joining there’s no security officers in this thread yet and the other post I was involved in are no longer relevant or other players have stopped posting in. If there is a problem you can ignore my post.
Christina

OOC: Thanks for joining us, Christina, The scope is there for you to get involved. I know that our entire medical department is currently on LOA, but there is scope for a doctor to join us in this thread too.

IC: Luna’s question reminded him of the numerous disapearances amongst the crew and then to the incident where Antos had encountered the ‘ghost’ of Nevin’s uncle… One of Nevin’s own personal demons.

“At this stage, we’re too soon to say,” Nevin said. In truth the thought hadn’t occurred to him. He looked at both Luna & Peter, “Both of you’ve been aboard the Viking longer than I and you’ve both seen the involved in the investigations there. Is there anything similar about what we’re seeing here?”
