As they reached sickbay, Jacquard’s arms were starting to ache so he gently laid Nirim on a bed as a nurse went to fetch the CMO.

A weary looking woman emerged from the office, her short brown hair hung limply at her shoulders, it looked like she hadn’t slept in a while either. Noticing the distressed counsellor she hurried over and flipped open her tricorder. “What happened?” She asked with a grave tone.

Jacquard shrugged his shoulders, “we don’t really know but she seems to be seeing things…” he offered as the best explanation he had. He turned to Beveres & Luna. “My apologies, this is our CMO, Dr Brion. Dr, this is Counsellor Lt Beveres & security Ensign Luna from the Viking, Lt Beveres has been helping with Nirim,” he added quietly.

Dr Brion smiled and seemed grateful that there was another counsellor on hand given Nirim’s current state. She quickly shook their hands before grabbing a hypospray and sedating the troubled counsellor, breathing a little sigh of relief as she finally relaxed into a deep sleep. She turned to Beveres and smiled warmly. “Thank you for your assistance Lt, perhaps you could fill me in on your diagnosis?” She asked hopefully she had some training in psychology but as she had an expert on hand she was grateful for the help.

“Of course, Doctor.” Beveres cast a glance to the perturbed counsellor, a gentle frown creasing her lips. “Counsellor Nirim would appear to be experiencing what are known as sensory hallucinations, accompanied by delusions. In her case, they seem to be primarily visual and auditory.” She paused, considering the facts. “Hallucinations can be caused for several reason.. has the Counsellor come to you with any concerns lately? Have you noticed any differences in her emotional state? Perhaps a sense of fatigue?” Delirium was not uncommon, but it bore a variety of causes. In Nirim’s case, it seemed sudden–as if she had been injected with delirium itself.

Dr Brion thought back over the past week and shook her head. “No, I don’t think so…that is, not until Captain Ries’ death…” she replied as she thought. Brion bowed her head and let out a sigh. “She was with him when he died, and her account of it is…confusing?” she offered. “I thought it was just the stress of what happened, there was a malfunction with the environmental system which caused a localized storm in the Captain’s quarters, the Captain was injured by debris…his throat was slit…” she added quietly. “Nirim reported hearing a voice in her head but I thought she was just confused or in shock…I should have caught it…” she added in a whisper as she put her head in her hands.

“Brion,” Beveres rested her hand on the doctor’s shoulder. “This isn’t your fault, nor anyone’s for that matter,” she assured, “but we cannot help her if you are plagued by guilt. When she comes to, she needs to know she has a support system; she needs to know she isn’t alone. I’m a foreign face, but you’re someone she can recognize and hopefully someone she can trust. You may not have caught it then–few would have–but you can help her now.”

Brion sighed and nodded slowly, she knew that the counsellor was right but it was different when it was a friend. She went back across to the unconscious Nirim and gently brushed a lock of hair away from her face. “You’re right, thank you counselor, the important thing is to help her now,” she agreed softly.

“Delirium can be cause by a wide variety of triggers. Of them, the most common is trauma. You said her account was confusing.. do you recall how she was acting that day? Was she twitching? Did she stutter or glance aimlessly around the room? Could she focus?” Beveres sighed, “I know it’s a lot, so please take your time, Doctor Brion.”

Dr Brion thought back to that awful day and closed her eyes as she tried to recall. “I had lunch with her mid afternoon and I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, we had a great chat, she was telling me about the shore leave she and Jacquard have planned next month…” she said as she continued to remember. “I was going to pop in for a drink in the evening but she cancelled as she had a call from Captain Ries. I examined her after the accident and she was in a state of major shock. She kept saying that she had heard Cal’s voice in her head but there was so much noise and confusion with the environmental problems…” she trailed off.

“As far as I can tell she was fine up until the accident,” she concluded with a sigh.

“Hmm..that doesn’t rule anything out, but it is helpful to know how she was acting up until the event.” Tal folded her arms over her chest, tapping her fingers against her biceps in thought.

“I’d like to get an hyperencephalogram and MRI on her–if possible. Perhaps there is some kind of toxin that is causing these hallucinations, which the HEG will show us. I also want to see what areas of her brain are active during these hallucinations; based on the readings, it might be able to tell us what their trigger is, especially if it’s emotional rather than physical.” Tal came from a ship where paranormal activity was as common as an asteroid, so part of her wanted the HEG to rule out a possible possession or control by another creature. Although she doubted it, telepathy was a magnificent attribute and it was dangerous.

“What caused the environmental issues?” She asked, wondering if it was possible that a toxin had been released while systems were compromised.

As they talked, Jacquard gently pulled Luna to one side and checked that there was no one else in earshot. “Tell me Ensign, your security team, have they had much experience in murder investigations…?” he asked with a solemn look on his face.

Mother Hen (GM)

Luna at first startled by Jacquard’s attempt to pull her aside she was focused at that moment on the consumers and CMO. Though she quickly released it was Jacquard and followed him. ” murder investigation?” she repeated a bit shocked. ” I can remember any murder investigation that the Viking has handled but are security teams are well trained and use to unusual situations. When was the last time you Slept,” Luna asked. She then looked around quickly nothing where everyone was. There was also a tension to the Ensign that was not present before they entered sickbay.
Ensign Luna

Jacquard sighed and rubbed his eyes wearily, shrugging his shoulders. “I don’t even remember Ensign…” he sighed. “I just wish I knew what was going on here, it just doesn’t make sense…” he said as he shook his head. “It’s like I’ve got pieces from 4 different puzzles that I need to make into 1, I just hope your team can help…” he added quietly. He leant in and whispered to her. “Please, do me a favour…keep an eye on the colony crew…” he was barely loud enough to hear and obviously very nervous.

Luna frowned “ why do you think the chife and I did not like the idea of splitting the away team. You need sleep you will never be able to figure this out with out rest” she said. Then she realized how much she sounded like Doctor Harrington. “ goodness your got me talking like a doctor” she said trying to brighten the situation.
Ensign Luna

Jacquard smiled weakly and nodded. “I know you’re right Ensign, I just wish I had some answers…” he replied as he stifled a yawn and had a quick stretch. “Ok, I submit, I’ll go and get some rest…” he conceded as he smiled and nodded at Luna. As he made his way towards the exit, his comm badge chirped.

=^= Lt Xatt to Lt Cmdr Jacquard. Phil, I’m getting an alert that there’s a problem with turbolift 9 and there are people in there! =^= a worried voice came over the comm link. =^= Lt Lopez is on her way but I thought you should know! =^=

Jacquard sighed as he tapped his comm badge. =^= Acknowledged, on my way… =^= he replied as he beckoned Luna to follow. “And you wonder why I don’t get any sleep?” he asked a little exasperated as they bolted out of the door towards the turbolift.

Mother Hen

“ Consular stay in sickbay and keep your calm open” she said before belting out of sickbay after Jacquard. “ this place is like the viking on acid” Luna said as she followed. She thought as they sprocket the turbo Lyft. “ what safety’s dose the turbolyft have and how do we get them active from out here” she asked.
Ensign Luna

Jacquard shrugged his shoulders as they dashed down the corridor. “I have no idea?!” He hollered as they ran. “We’re down to one engineer, do you have someone you can call on your ship?” He asked hopefully.

Mother Hen

“ I’ll have to ask the captain” Luna said she reached up and taped her combage. =/\= ensign Luna to Captain, there is a problem with the turbolyft over here can you send and engineer and another security officer we have had to split into three groups something about this station is off can’t explain now people are in danger =/\= she said then focused back on Jacquard.
