Once the four had what they needed and got to the shuttlebay. Now it was a question of which one to start retrofitting. One of her head top ears twitched a little and looked over to all three of them. “Which one you think, make it quick, we’re obviously on a timer.”

Kristi came in as Kay asked her question. She pointed to the far one. “That one’s had the least amount removed from it. And last week the power was fine. I’ve been tinkering with the others so there’s more to do. “

She and Mike had tried jury rigging one a month or so ago. It had proved too much just for a puttering evening so they’d given up.

“Hmm…Okay, well lets give that one a look at first shall we?” Kaylia tilted her head a bit and started over to it.

It was a bit later that Mike came by to give a hand but mostly to check on the progress.

Pleased that the hangar looked busy with activity he asked as he entered “Report, how does it look like? Do we have all the parts needed to get that shuttle up and running?”

Lt, Mike Stone, CE

Kristi answered from her back under the console in the almost ready shuttle. “I believe so, Chief. Still need to do one final system check. But so far, prelims are showing she’s space worthy.” She scooted back and sat up, a small streak of dirt across her cheek where she had rubbed her face with dirty hands, gave her a look of a grease monkey, versus the normally put together woman he always saw. Her hair was also half uncoiled from the coif usually so pristine on her head.

“I think that’s it. Ready for the boot up if you wanna be part of it.” She nodded to him and smiled. They would continue their conversation from his office at a later date. But she also wanted him to know she was thinking of it.

Mikes comm badge chirped and he exchanged a few words with the CO.

“I’d love to take a test ride, but duty calls. CO’s waiting for me in transporter room.” There was a bit of regret in his voice, even though he tried to sound as uneffected by his leave as he could.

It was interesting, that throughout Stone’s security career, he was bold countless times. It actually came natural to him, taking risks to get the job done.
But when it came to his personal life, he often lacked the boldness to do the next step. He felt both ashamed and proud at the same time, for what he did in his office. Ashamed he crossed borders of professionalism with his coworker, but so proud at himself, for finally showing Kristi how he felt.

“Carry on without me, and I’ll check up on progress when I’m back.” A smile escaped Mike’s face, and he almost took a step towards Kristi to give her another hug before leaving. Instead he just awkwardly waved to the crew present and turned towards the exit doors.

Kristi smiled and gave Mike a knowing nod. “Well, I am sure we’ll have a glowing report for you when you return… Sir.” She turned just as he nodded to the others. She was glad for what had transpired in the office. But, like him, she knew there was a time and place, and this wasn’t it.

Soon she and a couple other crewmen were running their second turn up of the shuttle. Minor things were still in need of calibrating, but it was just about ready for a space run.
