Stein grabbed the sedative and applied it to the patient before commenting over his shoulder to the other men. “I won’t have a patient tearing themselves apart trying to get free. If her metabolism is such that the drug keeps her sedated and her mental abilities repressed then we will keep her in the sickbay. If I can’t keep her chemically out of it we will move her to the brig. The force fields are much less constraining than unbreakable knots.”

Pete turned to Stein “Perhaps you missed my earlier statement regarding the potential problems with the colonies computer systems” He said calmly, his eyes drooping slightly “If it is at all possible to keep her drugged then, by all means, do so, but if they pose a risk then a little constraint won’t cause any permanent damage” He looked at the hogtied alien “If the sedative takes I do recommend that forcefields be placed around her in any case.”

The sedative took immediate effect on Lazoh as she slumped back down on the deck again. As the officers argued between themselves on the best way to restrain the patient, Nurse Bright let out a cry and grasped her head as she collapsed to her knees.

Mother Hen

Lucas snapped his head around at the cry from the nurse. Seeing that the woman in his embrace was out again he gently lowered her to the ground before moving near the nurse. He was on his toes for any lashing out and ready to defend everyone else in case the possession took her over.

“I’m inclined to agree with the Doctor Francis,” Nevin said firmly, forgetting momentarily that humans had this strange name format, “Forcefields will hold once the bio-neural gel-packs are not running the core systems. Any word from the command centre on how the engineers are getting on with that?”

Peter nodded in acknowledgment. Just like that the matter, to him at least, was closed.

Brion sat up quickly, rubbing her recently repaired arm, and slid off the biobed to join Lucas and Nurse Bright. “What’s wrong Alicia?” she asked as she reached for a tricorder, wincing at the stiffness and lingering pain in her arm. “Dr Stein, a hand?” she asked, groaning at her unitended pun. The young nurse instinctively clung to Lucas as the pain in her head grew in intensity. “What is it?!” she cried through gritted teeth.

Mother Hen

Lucas knelt down next to the nurse, ready to physically restrain her if needed, and said to her urgently, “It seems to be some sort of psychic manipulation. Focus on my voice and on me!”

Peter instinctively lowered his hand towards his hip then stopped himself. He grimaced slightly, he was used to fighting physical enemies. Somebody with a body of their own that he could study and subsequently decimate if he was ordered to. An enemy that could possess allies made things annoying.
