SNIP

She kissed his cheek and whispered softly. “It’s gonna be ok. You’ve got this.” After a couple moments, she smiled. “Let’s get thru today and I’ll make dinner. My quarters. You can make it that long, Mike… Let’s get thru this crisis and we’ll take a break before the next one.” She closed her eyes and held him a moment longer. One more kiss to his cheek and and pulled back just enough to look at him. Her smile, which lit up her eyes, was one he would recognize from the occasional glance he caught when she thought she had turned away fast enough.

Engineer

“I apologise, I wasn’t thinking.” He said softly as he slowly took a step back. He didn’t want to break the embrace, but knew he had to. “I guess that’s one secret out of the bag. I didn’t think it’ll go like this, and again, I’m sorry if I was rushing anything, but I just needed a hug. I know most people think I’m like my last name, Stone cold and without emotions sometimes. Yes when there’s a job to do, there’s usualy no room for emotions.”

He kept his secret hidden for so long, though he had a feeling Kristi suspected something for quite a while. “That comes from my actual profession as a security officer. I never took any engineering classes in academy, but due to circumstances and orders from far above, I had to take the engineering position on board this ship. Not even the CO and XO know about this to my knowledge, so…shush and please don’t tell anyone.”

There wasn’t any doubt in him, that she’d keep this secret to herself.

Lt. Mike Stone, CE

Kristi smiled. “As for being unseemly, I’ve been hoping you’d do that for a long time, now.” She smiled and a blush flushed her cheeks. “And you have my word no one else with know. Those who need to, the CO at least, aren’t going to tell unless it’s imperative. So no need to worry about my own lips letting it slip. As to the rest,” she touched his arm then lifted her hand and lightly brushed hair from his temple. “I think dinner, in your quarters, would be an excellent way to continue once things settle down. How’s that sound? Till then,” she leaned forward and lightly kissed the edge of his lips near his cheek, “I have a shuttle to get ready and Kaylia will likely turn it inside out if I’m not there.” She laughed and leaned back once more. “Though it would probably still fly better than any other ship in the fleet, for all her talent.”

Kristi touched his arm once more and winked. “You’ve got this, Chief… it’s just another day. Keep that in mind and everything will be fine. And if you need help, or even just another hug, you can always order me to your office, or ask me to check out that panel on deck 14 that we worked on my first week here. It’s still fairly off limits and will grant us sufficient privacy between security rounds if you need to talk. Deal?” She smiled once more and hoped that tonight she could let him know exactly what was on her mind, and had been, since she had arrived.

Kristi
Enginner
((sorry so late… am here))

Kaylia nodded and went with the other two she had pointed out and heading for the turbolift.

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

As Kaylia started making her way to the turbolift, a bright blue and black butterfly flew through the door and landed gracefully on her arm.

Mother Hen

She looked amused. “So you’re either going to hurt me and I will squish you, or you are helpful and I should follow you. Which is it?” Kaylia stopped before she got on the lift and lifted her arm to look at it better.

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly flapped it’s wings a couple of times but remained on the Ensign’s arm for a few seconds before taking off and hovering in front of her face.

Mother Hen

She raised and eyebrow and her tails twiching a bit. “Hmm…okay. Where are you wanting me to follow you to?”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly headed towards the door and hovered, fluttering gently whilst it waited for Kaylia to follow.

Mother Hen

There was a sigh given and trying to use her enhanced senses as she went. Moving to follow the butterfly, being very cautious. This could give answers, or be a mistake.

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly gracefully flitted down the corridor, pausing a few times to make sure Strenvale was following. It hovered in front of the turbolift, waiting for the engineer to follow.

Mother Hen

She still was not at all sure what this thing was wanting. Particularly for her. Even getting in the lift, that couldn’t exactly push a button and tell her which deck to go to. So that was another issue to have to figure out how to deal with. “Should I just start saying decks and you flutter at the right one?”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly hovered momentarily in front of the door before starting an strange display. As Kaylia watched it, the creature delicately flew a foot to the left, down a foot, and then in an inverted C shape. It flew with an unnatural and unusual precision and continued to repeat the pattern in front of the turbolift door.

Mother Hen

((Kristi responded to the kiss, then moved to the shuttle bay))

She shook her head. “I don’t get it. You’re making a symbol but I don’t know what you mean.”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly continued in its odd pattern, this time a bit slower so that Strenvale could follow it’s movement:

OOC: Sorry, that’s the best I could do on the keyboard, it’s meant to be a 5! :)

Mother Hen

“Are you saying five? Like you want me to go to deck five?” Okay then, stepping so the doors would open and she stepped in. Also keeping it open for the butterfly. “Deck five.” Waiting while the lift moved and then stepping out once it stopped.

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

OOC: I see it.

The butterfly followed her into the turbolift and gently came to settle on her arm for the journey. As the lift doors opened, it flitted out again and waited for her to follow, slowly leading them down the corridor, checking every now and then that Strenvale was following.

The butterfly continued down the corridor and hovered outside the door to one of the planetary science labs, patiently waiting.

Mother Hen

As the butterfly flitted back and forth in annoyance as it waited for Strenvale, a worried voice rang out through her comm badge.

=/\= NE Dannika to Engineering, we are showing a failure in the life support systems! =/\=

Mother Hen

Kaylia continued to follow it and she couldn’t exactly help with that if she wasn’t in Engineering to hear it. Going through the doors to the lab.

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly flew over to a console which was performing routine scans of the planet below and started flitting back and forth excitedly.

Mother Hen

“Alright little thing. Lets see what all the flitter is about.” Looking down at the scans, obviously there was something to be noticed there. So she had to let it run while she looked over what has already been scanned.

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The console showed detailed scans of the planet below, geographical, topological and biological. The scans were very thorough apart from one region, approximately 50 square km, which had very limited information. There were no tangible readings from this area, nothing other than a very basic geographic scan which showed a large cave and the start of a tunnel system which appeared to lead underground.

Mother Hen

“Okay…right. So you want us to go to that spot and go down into the cave.” Reaching to her commbadge. “Strenvale to Captain. I think I have a lead with the help from a friend.”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly fluttered around excitedly in approval.

Mother Hen

She scratched one of her head ears a moment, waiting for a reply. “Just where did you come from little butterfly? Down there?”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The butterfly began flying in a small circle, slowly getting faster. Before long, it was going so fast it was just a blur. As Kaylia watched, something began to form in front of her and after a few moments, a slender humanoid figure appeared. It’s skin was almost lilac in colour and it was covered in what looked like decorative art works. It watched Kaylia with great interest as it began to make a series of mysterious clicking noises, it’s head cocked to the side in curiosity.

Mother Hen

She narrowed her eyes a moment. Wasn’t hard to tell with her senses and not have to look. Though could have been anything. However the clicking noises did get her full attention. Tapping her comm badge, “Strenvale to Security! Intruder alert!” Turning to look. Would be nice if everyone else was on board but okay. She was in command. Also would be nice if Security would get there. She did not want to use her abilities. She hated doing so. “Okay, pretty..show me again what to do or I’m just going to start stabbing things.”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The figure continued to watch Kaylia and made a few more clicks, taking a step towards her and finally spoke. “No…stab…” it said in broken English as though it was only just learning how to speak. “…look…” it added, pointing to the console again.

Mother Hen

“I have been looking at it. The caves. Though that’s amusing you can turn into a butterfly. Its clear you are trying to help. No stab. So I need to go down there?” Also tapping her badge, “Cancel that, Security. If there’s any left on the ship…” Kaylia sighed. “Is that what you are wanting. There is something going on there. Is it hostiles, bad people, or is it..chemical? Biological, enviromental?”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

Most of the words Kaylia used were still foreign to the alien but he surmised she was asking what she was looking for. “…me…” he replied before thinking again. “..my…people…are…angry…” he concluded. If the elders even knew he was here, he would surely be punished but there was a lot at stake.

Mother Hen

“Then explain to me why they are angry with you. I’m not going to hurt you if you are just here to help. We can give you eyslium. Under our protection. You can even flutter around with me as a butter fly if you want. However you have got to tell me what is going on, or I can’t help you or my friends.”

  • Ensign Kaylia Strenvale
    – Engineer

The alien sighed and shook his head. “…not me…they are angry…with them…the others who came…the ones who hurt us…” he was a quick study and was getting the hang of her language but he still didn’t know how to explain it to Kaylia. He thought for a moment before nodding to himself and gently putting his hands around Kaylia’s head. She felt an almost electric energy coarse through her body, her brain suddenly kicking into overdrive. After a couple of seconds he released her and put his hands up in submission.

“My apologies, I hope I didn’t hurt you, it was the quickest way to learn your language. My name is Yisnal of the Nok’tar, I must speak to your Captain,” he added with a nod of his head.

Mother Hen

She didn’t like at all being touched without being asked for permission, not if it wasn’t someone she didn’t know. Clenching her fists till it stopped then glanced back to him with eyes open. “Unfortunately, I think you have me. She’s not on board. We should go to the bridge though, I can access more systems and things from there.”
