It was late at night. Luna had brought Cerenity to the lounge with the intent to let her burn off some energy. The child flew icecaps around the lounge. Luna shook her head as she watched her child fly. She just wanted to sleep she could not understand how Cerenity had so much energy. She eventually found somewhere to sit and watch.
Ensign Luna

“Mind if I join you?” Harrington asked as he approached her. The doctor was dressed in nice but casual clothes, and he was holding a steaming cup of coffee in one hand. Whether it was the time of night, or his contrast with Cerenity’s energy, he appeared even more pale and gaunt than he usually did.

Dr Harrington

“ not at all” she said with a smile. She studied him for a moment. “ are you doing ok” she asked.
Ensign Luna

David took the seat across from Luna and sighed, rubbing tiredly at his face. “Nothing a cup of coffee and a good nights rest won’t fix,” he looked up and feigned a smile, not wanting to bother her with his problems. He took a sip of coffee and casually changed the topic, “What brings you here this late?”

Dr Harrington

Lyra shook her head then pointed at her daughter. ” I can’t get her to bed and no one is sleeping in our place until she does. Wonder if I had as much energy as she did. So what’s actually bothering you” Luna asked. She changed the subject back.
Ensign Luna

“I hope for your sake she burns all that energy off soon,” David chuckled, watching the childs antics. He envied her energy. He was running on next to no energy and he knew it showed. “It would’ve been Bree - I mean Harry’s birthday today,” he said after a moment, “And I’m no closer to finding her than I was when I first arrived here.” he sighed and rubbed his eyes. “I can’t find anyone who knew her except for you. They’ve all left or disappeared. It just feels like a mess! And now my parents want me to come home and start a family as if having a baby is going to replace her somehow!” angrily he wiped a stray tear away. It was a testament to how tired his was that his emotions were so close to the surface. “She’s their daughter and they’re trying to act like she never existed. It’s not right.”

He stopped, realising he’d probably overshared. “Sorry, I haven’t been sleeping well lately,”

Dr Harrington

Luna got up and moved to sit next to him she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a hug. She opens and wrapped a wing protectively around him.” It ok I understand” she said gently. Her natural material instincts could easily be seen by anyone how knowledge her well but to a stranger she would simply seam friendly.

David leaned into the embrace, realishing the comfort in the contact. It had been a long time since he’d hugged anyone. Even before Harry had gone missing his family hadn’t been the affectionate type. Now it felt like the one thing he never knew he needed. He didn’t know if it was the warmth of her arms, the relief of getting things off his chest or of the confort he was recieving, tears slipped easily down his face. “Thank you,” he mumbled into her shoulder.

After a minute he gently pulled out of her grasp. His eyes were red and blotchy but his outward demeanour seemed less worn down. “I think I needed that,”

Cerenity landed on the table in front of him. “ did mommy tell you” she asked happy she was totally oblivious to what was going on.

Davids eyes flickered from mother to daughter, “Tell me what?” he asked, looking curiously back at Luna.

“Now is not the best time cerenity” Luna said gently she was concerned that the child’s energy might not be helpful for David.
Ensign Luna

“No it’s alright,” Harrington smiled, attempting to show her he was fine now that he’d gotten some of it off his chest. “You can tell me if you want. Who knows…” he shrugged, “…the distraction might prove theraputic.”

He took another sip of his coffee and winked playful at Cerenity over the top of it in an effort to keep the mood up, “I mean unless it some super ultra mega big secret,” he teased. He looked at Luna, getting a study on her. As curious as he was about what Cerenity thought he’d been told, behind the playfulness he was also giving Luna the oppertunity to opt out of telling him if she didn’t want to.

Dr Harrington

“ I’ll be this many next month” Cerenity said holding up three fingers. Luna looked conserved for a moment. Then looked to Dr.Harrington. “ I still have not managed to get her to actually say numbers” Luna said.
Ensign Luna

“I wouldn’t worry, she’s still young,” David tilted his head to the side, “Three you mean?” he asked Cerenity, holding up three fingers, “You’re going to be three soon? That’s such a big number,”

Luna nodded her understanding. Cerenity smiled “ yes in this ment years I’ll be able to go to school like my friend Dakin” she said holding up two fingers. Luna blinked she was a bit dumbfounded. She had not taught the child any math so where had she learned.

“You know I’m 30, that has a 3 in it just like you will soon have,” David grinned lowering his hands, “But it’s too big for me to count on my fingers.”

Dr Harrington

“How big” Cereniy asked. Luna was silent as if she had no idea what was going on. In reality she was lost in a panicked thought loop at the realization that her 2 year old could add numbers.
Ensign Luna

David leaned forward and held up his fingers counting them out “One… Two… Three…” he was completely unaware of Luna’s mini freak out, or that all thoughts of Harry were momentarily forgotten as he concentrated on showing the 2 year old how to count to 30. Once he reached ten he made a brief fist with each hand before flashing his fingers again, “Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen…” he counted, continuing the pattern until he reached 30. “See 30. It’s like counting to 10 but 3 times,” he explained as simply as he could.

Dr Harrington

“So like this” she said flashing ten fingers then closing her hands into fist she did this three times. Luna just watched quietly.
Ensign Luna

“Just like that,” David grinned. He looked up at Luna, “She’s quick, I haven’t met many children her age who pick things up as quickly as she does,”
