Commander O’Dell beamed aboard the ship with the personnel giving him the proper salute. He walked up and said, “take me to the Captain, now.”

The NE Ensign on duty escorted O’Dell to the Captain’s ready room. The bell was rung and the Commander waited.

Commander O’Dell

It was almost a minute before a response came. “Enter” The voice of a man sounded from the door.

Inside was a simple office, desk with two chairs for guests and a single behind, in which sat a man. He had dark hair that was starting to gray at the temples. His eyes were a dim icy blue and had a cold dead stare. The desk was simple, a computer terminal and a few PaDDs. On the right side was a small display which held an axe, small handheld weapon with beautiful carvings into the wooden handle and the steel itself was decorated as well. The Captain turned slightly in his chair to face his new first officer “Commander O’Dell, welcome onboard” His tone was flat, cold and without any obvious emotion.

Commander O’Dell gave the traditional salute to the Captain and proceeded to enter the room. O’Dell was wearing his standard duty uniform with a blade in its holster on his right hip. The Commander was still young enough that he looked like he still had a lot to learn. Still, in the empire, no one can take anyone for granted. “May I sit, Captain?”, came the reply.

XO

“Please do” Gunnar said in his usual calm manner. He grabbed a PaDD and examined it closely “I hope your trip wasn’t too rough” His conversation style was not the most common among Terrans, there was no obvious malice in his voice nor suspicion in his eyes, altogether he seemed very relaxed.

CO

Taking a seat the Commander responded, “No sir my trip was not that bad. We actually made good time and I was able to size up the others that were with me. It is always good to know who your friends and enemies are these days. I would hate to get stabbed in the back for my job. I know the empire has put such actions in a different light , but there are still those that desire power and we are in their way.”

XO

Gunnar shrugged “We are only in the way of those less capable, I’ve found that only those that lack strength and ability need to resort to such methods. Not that being cunning isn’t a good quality to have in an officer but they often lack the foresight of what they’ll do when they reach our positions. I hope you understand my meaning” He finally looked at his new first officer, his cold eyes would run a shiver down the backs of a lesser Terran.

After thinking for a minute the XO replied, “Yes, sir, I believe I understand what you are saying. I am ready to assume my post…any orders, Captain?”

XO

“I’ve already issued the helm our first orders, we have a destination and nothing more. Our orders are location locked” He pointed at a Black PaDD on his desk “I assume it’s a sensitive mission, don’t want anything to leak beforehand” He explained “Until then I think it’s time for us to get to know each other, tell me about yourself” Another unusual Terran behavior.

CO

O’Dell was not used to opening up to other people as it might make him seem weak and weakness would get you killed. “Sir, what would you like to know?” asked the officer.

XO
