There was so much to do what with the Curie’s reactivation and the details of the upcoming mission. But Jessip knew that the best thing he could be focusing on was his crew. They had been pulled from posts all over the Federation. He knew some by reputation, but very few of them personally. A familiarity with the Darwin Class design was a bonus, but he knew with the decommissioning of the class he would find very few with that experience .

So now he found himself in a reception hall, a welcoming party for his new crew. A chance to put some faces to the names on their profiles. Taking a drink from one of the refreshment tables he walked towards a small gathering of crewmembers ready to mingle.

Jessip Quirst, CO

Jo’riah is an average size Bajoran male with a well groomed brown hair, tailored dress uniform and a earing on his left ear. With a glare, he scanned the room with his eyes to see what was going on.

Nesman, CoS

Jessip saw the Bajoran security officer and took notice of him checking out the room. ‘Always at work’ he mused to himself. He finished his drink in a long swig, then took another before he crossed to room to join him.

“Lieutenant Nesman,” Jessip stated as he extended the hand not holding his drink, “I am happy to finally meet you. I am Captain Jessip Quirst. I feel I almost know you from your service record.”

Jo’riah reached out and fully extended his arm with uncertainty. “Ah yes Captain. I enjoy working more often. I will admit, human customs are not what I am used to Sir.”

Lieutenant Nesman, CoS

Jessip slowly waved his arm to seemingly encompass the room as he spoke, “One thing I have learned is that we all need some social interaction. And a gathering like this is a way to mingle and get to meet crewman you normally do not meet in our normal duties.”

“This a reason I prefer to serve on smaller ships. Less crewmen of course, but I find the comraderies can be strengthened when their are fewer people. And a Darwin class ship has fewer people.” Jessip added smile at the end of his statement and took a sip of his beverage. “So, Lieutenant. Since you have been looking over our fellow crewmembers, what do you see?”

Jessip Quirst, CO

The door to the reception area opened and short man carrying a large knapsack and a smaller haversack stepped into the room. His brown eyes scanned the room then widened in surprise as he recognized more than one person. He quickly stepped to the side and dropped his bags, then proceeded into the crowd greeting the familiar faces.

Garay, CE

Jessip had turned while speaking with Jo’riah, and saw the Engineer enter. The sight of him caused a smile and he motioned with two fingers for the man to join him and Jo’riah. He had specifically asked for Garay because he knew of the man’s skill and wanted a competent engineer in case the Curie had unforeseen issues after she returned from mothball.

Ander’s eyebrows nearly disappeared into his hairline when his eyes met Jessip’s. He worked his way through the crowd to the Captain, shaking hands with old friends as he went. He hadn’t seen Jessip in seven years, and his mind was whirling as pieces began to click into place.
“Captain!” He exclaimed when he arrived next to the man. “It’s good to see you, sir. I have to admit I’m a little overwhelmed. Due to some sort of clerical error I never received proper transfer orders. I had no idea I was being sent to work with you again,” Ander explained.

Garay, CE

Jessip clasped the Engineers hand tightly and gave it a good hearty shake as the former crewmates reunited. “It’s good to see you as well, Ander.”

“Yes…I believe I am the source of your bureaucratic snafus’. I did not get the necessary clearances in place for your transfer before I needed to ship out myself. All I could give the Starfleet Detailers were your destination location of Starbase 842.”

Jessip motioned for both Jo’riah and Ander to follow him as he moved towards the window. Once there he stopped and spent a moment or two looking. Then he spotted what he wanted the two of them to see. He pointed to the floating dry dock just blow the horizon of the station. Within the bright lights of the the dock as ship could be seen.

“Gentlemen, you are both here because our new ship is currently being refitted. I hope that we can embark on our new mission in about two weeks time.”
