The doors opened once more, and a woman dressed in some dress pants and a bluish shirt came in. Her long curly brown hair put into a braid that was put into a small bun. She looked at those in the room, and walked towards those gathered, her eyes watching them, hoping she wasn’t in the wrong reception. The ebbs of different emotions started to hit her, but they were quickly put aside for her want to interact with these three.

Patterson, Medical

As he was speaking he saw the another crewman coming over to join them. He knew her only from her record at the Academy, but that was exemplary. It took a bit of moxie and political pull to request one of the highest rated Medical cadets, but it worked out.

Jessip stepped forward to part both his Security and Engineer as he moved to greet the newcomer. “Lieutenant Patterson. I am Captain Jessip Quirst. It is good to finally meet you.” He extended his arm and gave hers a healthy shake as warmly greeted her.

She took his hand with a warm smile and a small chuckle, “Captain, a pleasure to finally put a face to a name. Thank you for requesting me.” she turned with him to the others.
Turning back to face the pair, he introduced her; “Gentlemen, this is Doctor Zanderia Patterson. One of the finest medical cadets to ever graduate from the Academy.”
Indicating the Bajorian first, he continued, “This is Jo’riah Nesman, Chief of Security, and Ander Garay, our Engineer.”

  • Jessip Quirst, CO.

Ander extended a friendly hand to Zanderia.
“Welcome to our crew,” he said. He then turned his attention back to Jessip. “I have many questions about this mission, Captain. But let’s start with the ship. Why are they hauling an old clunker like that out of mothballs for us?” He gestured over his shoulder. “Surely there were other ships available.”

Garay, CE

She took Anders hand with a soft smile and a nod, “thank you. I hope we all work well together for sake of our mission.” her voice was soft, but her handshake firm and professional. Her eyes turned to Jessip as he began to talk.
Jessip regarded his assembled officers. He had hoped to share the mission at a later date, but it seems the like this is the best time to do so.

“As you may know, the reason that Starbase 842 is located in the Kirn system is because of the wormhole in this system. That stable wormhole is a conduit to a sparsely explored region of the Beta Quadrant. It is rumored that if the Federation were to use that wormhole we could possibly discover the backside of the Romulan Empire. “

“But the history of that wormhole involves a more immediate adversary. When talks broke down between the Bat’Leth and the Federation over a decade ago, we sealed the entrance of the wormhole on our side to prevent an avenue of invasion. Long range communication equipment at Starbase 842 has detected a faint signal where the wormhole entrance once was. Starfleet Command doesn’t know what it is, or it’s point of origin. So a ship has been selected to find out what the signal is, assess the threat, and to report back the findings.”

“That ‘old clunker’ is the only ship to have ever traversed that wormhole. The only ship to have ever taken any survey of the area beyond. The only ship to have ever interacted with the enemy on the other side. And for that reason alone, it is the only ship authorized to undertake this mission.”

“Yes. that ‘old clunker’ is the original USS Curie. The same ship captained by my father and his crew.”

  • Jessip Quirst, CO.

As she listened to the mission and heard this was the same ship she had heard about in the academy, her jaw dropped and she took in everyone’s reactions to the news. This was major and she hoped the others were handling it as well as her.

Patterson, medical

Ander listened intently and cast another long look at the Curie. He wasn’t a scientist, only an engineer. If the brass at Starfleet believed this ship was somehow special, they likely had a good reason for it. Ander suddenly frowned.
“That ship was decommissioned over a decade ago. How much time have they given us to get her ready?” He asked.

Garay, CE

“I too had the same initial reaction upon arrival seeing this relic as you humans say. I’m curious if we’ll crawl out of spacedock or towed out.”

Ander stood a little taller. While he was certain the Lieutenant’s statement wasn’t meant to be offensive, he didn’t appreciate his skills being questioned.
“I can assure you we’ll leave under our own power,” he said gruffly.

Garay, CE

She too looked over at the other and said with an eyebrow raised, “I don’t think this man here would’ve been chosen if he wasn’t the best man to get her going. Have as we say just a little faith and some luck for your team. We will make sure you get back here in one piece.” she turned for a moment to Ander, “Engineering is not my field of expertise, but when you need a second pair of hands, and Noone else is around, let me know. If anything else I know what most tools are.”She chuckles in good kind and straightens her shirt.

Patterson, medical

Ander nodded and wondered if she had taken the engineering extension courses at Starfleet Academy. He’d taught a few doctors who were often surprised to discover that engineering wasn’t much different than surgery. The anatomy of a ship was often far more simple than the complexities of a living organism.

Jessip watched his officers banter a bit, and when he found a lag he replied. “The restoration team was been working for over four weeks now. We have two more weeks to get her ready to launch. I’d like to have her ready for a shake down in twelve more days. ”

Ander turned to look at the ship again and began to scratch his chin as he considered the difficulties that faced his engineering team.

He let the weight of their truncated time schedule sink in before he added. “Remember, She’s a modular design. Darwin’s were designed to be assembled and reassembled in little to no time. I have full faith in all of your abilities to ensure your departments are ready when we are ready to launch.”

  • Jessip Quirst, CO

Ander turned back to Jessip.
“Aye sir,” he said with a nod.

Garay, CE

She looked shocked as he looked to her for her department. She wasn’t sure how she was going to do things it being her first time doing this but she nodded” Understood. I will do my best to have medical ready by then. “she said back to him, her hair bouncing a little as she turned to face him. She watched the others for their responses as well.

Patterson, Medical

Jo’riah nodded in agreement. “yes sir”

Nesman, CoS
