It took only a few moments for the Curie to take up a position at the entrance of the wormhole. The officer at OPS keyed in the broadcast signal and put it on repeat. It wasn’t long before the swirling whirlpool of the wormhole’s aperture opened up to the Curie. The colorful light show from within the wormhole sparkled against the Curie’s hull, across the view screen on the Bridge, and the window wall of 8 Forward. In fact any forward view port would seen the show.

“Mr. Bannion, initialize Aft thrusters then move us up to one quarter impulse. Take us in.” Jessip stated while keeping an eye on the interior of the wormhole.

NE Shanda watched as the ship approached the mouth of the wormhole.
“Here we go,” she said before taking a deep breath.
=/\= Standby for wormhole interface! =/\= Came Ander’s voice over the comm.

The Curie moved slowly at first but quickly picked up speed as she entered the wormhole. As soon as she began to traverse the passage, the aperture closed behind her. The lights flashed brightly encompassing the entire of the hull. The explorer seemed to be buffeted by unknown winds as the ship shook, jolted and rolled while keeping a steady pace. Every one in a while Jessip could hear his Bridge officers call out items of concern; weakening of the structural integrity field, fluctuations within the warp core, hull temperature increasing. According to the original ships readings, these were expected phenomenon while traversing this wormhole. Jessip was listening for anything odd or unexpected.

According to the ship’s chronometer, they had only a few more minutes to go.

=/\= Bridge! We’re beginning to see plasma surges in the EPS manifolds! =/\=
An alarm sounded and the lights flickered.
=/\= Reroute plasmaaaaghhh… =/\= The channel became all static before going dead.
“Captain! We’ve lost comms with engineering! Main power is failing, they’re attempting to compensate!”

NE Shanda, ENG

As the ship continued through the wormhole the hull began to emit a cacophony of strange whining and popping noises as the torsional stress increased. The lights flickered more and more as the power systems surged, fading to a dull level. Then it was all over.

The Curie exited the wormhole and decelerated to a stop as the aperture closed behind them. They had travelled several hundred lightyears on a only a few minutes, and now found themselves in the backside of the Beta Quadrant. The last time they were here this was Bat’Leth space.

The hull had stopped making noises and the lights slowly came back up to normal. At her post, NE Shanda surveyed the engineering systems.
=/\= crackle aaamage control teams, check all power relays. Gravity is down to point eight. =/\=
“Communications with engineering restored, sir,” Shanda called over her shoulder.

Jessip stood from his command chair and gave out a few orders as he scanned the forward viewscreen at what was around them. “Full stop.”

Turning to Nesman, he ordered the security officer, “Yellow alert. Raise shields.”

Looking at his science officer, he ordered, “Full sensor sweep. I want to know what we are up against. Who knows what we will find over here.”

Looking anxiously at his officers Jessip waited for them to make their reports.

Initial scans will show that the space around them seemed to be empty., except for scant non Bat’Leth traffic. A station appeared to be in high orbit around the closest planet, but it seemed to be abandoned, as there were no detected activity coming from it.

She looked for a moment before running some of those scans herself as she kept an eye on possible calls from sickbay for Injuries from the travel. Her face was one of concentration as she didn’t move her eyes from the screens as she started.

The officer at Science reported the clear sector. This concerned Jessip as the wormhole was the avenue of invasion for the Bat’Leth. At the very least he expected defensive apparatus’; a sensor net, defensive satellites, etc. But… nothing?

Taking his seat once again, Jessip’s gaze again remained fixed upon the screen. “Ahead 1/4 impulse. Let’s check out this station. Maybe it can provide some clues. Maintain active scans, and yellow alert.”

The wormhole experience had been.....interesting and yet, slightly disappointing. Ever did not know what she had expected. Fireworks? Flashing lights and deities welcoming them to the after world? Granted, her time and experience during her Starfleet career had not landed her much time on an actual starship and so her working knowledge of space and well, spaceships, was fairly limited. Having had just the basics in Starfleet Academy, though it had been some years now, Ever often forgot she was an officer in Starfleet. Most of her time had been spent on planets or hidden non moving windowless prisons. Gripping the arms of the chair, she braced herself for torpedoes or phaser fire as she closed one eye. Nothing. Well, that was not a disappointment as being dead was not on her list of fun activities for the day. Security would never have been a wise career move for the Betazoid counsellor. Relaxing her hands back into her lap, she opened her eyes and peered at the viewscreen. The station was too far away to pick up any thoughts of life aboard. Exhaling louder than she had planned, Ever’s next thought was the station was void of life. Concentrating, she “listened” intently towards the station, pushing passed the thoughts, feelings and minds of the Curie’s crew.

Jo’riah pressing the command button to raise the shield. “Aye Sir raising shields.”

Nesman, CoS

The young doctor felt the nerves of the crew, and rightfully so. She knew they were in New to them territory and she herself had been a little nervous about things. She nodded when things didn’t actually happen to medbay as she thought it might. She turned her attention back to the consoles, keeping an eye on anything suspicious on potential medical calls for the crew.

As the station loomed closer in the viewscreen, it looked like it had taken some battle damage. Nothing too serious, just evidence that the shields had failed once or twice and had let in some hits.

“Science, give me some scans of that station. Power output, life signs, anything that might indicate if it is active.” Jessip ordered. “If the readings indicate an all clear I’d like to send a team over to investigate.”

  • Jessip Quirst, CO.

Scans would reveal that the station was intact. No active power or life signs aboard. Thee were no automated beacons or other navigational markers. It just seemed to be a rather large object in the high orbit of the planet. The planet itself was similar to the station. It appeared barren. No life signs or outward energy output.

The turbolift door opened and Ander stepped out onto the bridge. He nodded at NE Shanda at engineering.
“I’ll take over Ensign. Please join alpha team in cargo bay two. They’re going to recondition that subprocessor we pulled from the command network, and I’m sure NE Clifford would appreciate your help.”
“Aye sir,” Shanda said. She turned and stepped through the doors to the turbolift. Ander scrolled through the status board and then turned his attention to the viewscreen.
“I’m not getting any power emissions from the station,” he said to the Captain. “At first glance the damage appears to be mostly superficial.” He returned his attention to the engineering station and directed a scan to the damaged sections to confirm if the hull was intact, or if it had been breached. He also queried the computer to determine what kind of weapons had been involved.

Garay, CE

Zan herself was looking and scanning for life forms with the scanner, but kept her mind on the emotions of the crew to feel out what they were feeling. She was also trying to help determine if going over there at this point would be safe, or require their suits for filtering and oxygen.

Patterson, Medical

Garay’s scans would reveal that the damage patterns were consistent with known Bat’Leth energy weapons. Seemingly the damage was caused by the same people that built the station. Power systems appeared intact, just not active. Patterson’s life form scans would revel very little as the base seemed abandoned.

Ander frowned. Using the decay profile of the Bat’Leth weapons, he attempted to determine how long ago the station had been attacked.

Gathering the info from his officers, Jessip was puzzled. It just didn’t seem right. This station should be active if the Bat’Leth built it. There were too many questions and not enough answers. And it was time to get some answers.

“I think it’s time to go over there and find out the nature of that station. Mr. Garay, I’d like you to lead the Away Team. Take an Engineering team as well as a security detachment. Nothing too heavy, just a squad. Doctor Patterson, I’d like you to join them. I would feel much better knowing we had some medical support if needed.”

  • Captain Jessip Quirst

“Aye sir,” Ander said as he secured the engineering station. He looked toward Jo’riah. “Lieutenant, please have your team meet us in transporter room two in ten minutes.” He turned to the turbolift and watched the doors open, then waited for Zanderia to step through. He followed her into the lift and tapped his comm badge. “Alpha team, meet me in transporter room two in ten minutes for an away mission.”

Garay, CE

“Acknowledged Lieutenant.”
