Heather finished her rotation in Engineering, made sure assignments were handed out and all from outside the office that had only recently belonged to her chief Si’Rek, She just wasn’t ready to sit in his chair and his office so soon after learning he’d left without so much as a goodbye to her. Heather made a stop off at her quarters, the Captain knew what she was exactly and before the young immortal was going to sit down with her captain for a nice dinner Heather was going to have a bag of blood. She hadn’t had anything to eat since she accepted the post, and she’d last had blood the day before. This meant her body had run through the blood she’d consumed.

Getting in a quick sonar shower and a change of clothing a bag of blood slapped to her fangs drained rather quickly. The food would help her body produce its own blood, but until then at least one bag would satisfy her. Once dressed and slightly fed Heather left her quarters and found the first lift to the decks above her. the young woman stepped off the lift and made her way to the captain’s quarters where she then pressed the chime at exactly 1800 hours and waited for entrance to be offered.

Ael had never been much of a woman to replicate dinners, whenever she had the chance not to. In lieu of dealing with the machinery she was quite certain had a grudge against her, she stood at the counter chopping up a wide variety of vegetables to add into the wraps she was making. The vibrant yellows and reds and oranges of the bell peppers would give a crisp twist to the prominent greens of the cucumber, green onion, spinach and wide assortment of other vegetables. Setting them aside, she set out the wraps, first brushing a light chipotle sauce across them, before adding in the vegetables. Uncertain if Heather preferred meat or not, as Aihia rarely did, she left it to the side, until Heather arrived.

About to check on the sweet potato soup, she heard the sound of the chime. Raising an eyebrow, she quickly made her way to the door, brushing off her clothes, in case she had gotten anything on them. For a second, she smirked at the thought of how Heather might react to her cooking, but she pushed that thought away, standing beside the threshold of the door, as it slid open. “Hello,” Ael waved, gesturing for Heather to step inside. “Welcome to my humble abode,” There was sarcasm in her voice.

Heather smiled, she couldn’t help it at the sarcastic tone, “It’s nice for fleet issued quarters.” Heather smirked back, “And judging by the smell your definitely an amazing cook.” Heather said as she entered her Captain’s quarters. She took a quick look around before turning to face her Captain, “What’s on the menu?” She asked with a soft smile catching a hint of Sweet potato soup even from this distance.

Her quarters were most certainly eccentric. Artifacts lined the walls, dancing across a few shelves, each of Romulan descent. Despite her position in Starfleet, Aihia still embraced her connection to her people. Smiling, she shook her head. “Nice is an overstatement,” She razzed, although it were better than any Romulan Military issued quarters. “Vegetables wraps– with grilled chicken if you’d like, and sweet potato soup.” She informed, beckoning Heather over to the communal area of the quarters.

Heather smiled, “Smells delicious, I’ll take mine with chicken.” She grinned definitely a meat eater. though she loved veggies too. Normally her kind slowly stop eating. They get to the point where eating becomes an inconvenience. Technically they did not need to eat, because blood gives them all the nutrients they could need. Eating does build their own supply of blood even if it is not enough to take care of the Nanites moving through their system keeping them young. Her uncle Lucien had been raised in a time of warriors so to maintain his warrior physique he never stopped eating food. Her Great Uncle Lucian, however, had. Heather still smiled over the stories her Great Aunt told of how Lucian had brought her Alpo dog food the first time he made her something to eat just after she had been turned. “It smells absolutely delicious Captain.” Heather said turning to the captain with a smile more to the memory than the food and the dinner with Captain.

“Meat it is, Argeneau.” Aihia smiled over to her. The Captain was not used to spending time with anyone, most of her downtime spent in solitude, so she hoped she was doing this right. There came a point in every officer’s life, regardless of their rank or age, when they realize they had focussed too much on work and needed to breathe. Aihia was at that point in her life; she knew so much about Starfleet and had more than her share of experience with it, she knew her crew by their files.. but she didn’t know them as people. And in her eyes, that was a problem. Aihia’s father had always been strict about never getting close to a subordinate, he would shun them and make certain they knew they were beneath him. Hell, sometimes he didn’t even know their name. Ael did not want to be that way– she vowed she would never become her father. Yet with the way she was carrying about, she was following his footsteps. “You don’t have to call me Captain,” She shook her head. “Aihia will do.. or Ael, if you please.” Aihia felt awkward giving her first name, especially to anyone who wasn’t family. However, she figured she would just have to get over that.

Heather looked around as she followed her captain into the quarters, to her it looked very sparse, not a lot of personal effects, but there were some things that made her think that the Captain was human. Or Romulan as the case may be. “As you wish Aihia if you don’t mind my asking are those from your own archeological digs? or collected from other’s digs?” She asked as she moved to look at the shelf of artifacts.

Heather was not wrong.. in either assumption, although most people were unaware of her hybrid nature; a secret she held close to her chest. For a woman whose attitude was generally the most prevalent thing about her, she seemed awfully friendly this evening, but that might change if anyone chose to point it out. “Both, actually. When I was an Ensign aboard the Enigma -an exo-archaeological science vessel- the Captain made it a point for everyone, even security officers, to have training in he excavation and handling of fragile artifacts. My squad was assigned to the excavation on Belturan VI; managing not to completely destroy what we had uncovered, the science officers allowed us to keep one of the artifacts we discovered.” She nodded, “The others are all from my mother’s work as an archaeologist.”

“You have nice collection.” Heather said honestly, “Your mother must be proud.” She said softly wondering what her parents would think of her join a Federation starship? She turned to face her captain deciding not to think further on what her family will think Heather hadn’t exactly talked to them since returning to the ship after her Great Uncle had tried to control her career choices and she like her mother before her stood up to him.

Aihia only chuckled, “Perhaps.” She had not spoken to either of her parents since her choice to join Starfleet, now fifteen years ago. Her father, an esteemed Romulan soldier, did not believe in Starfleet and found it was a coalition of pathetic individuals representing the weakness of their species. Although her mother did not share the same biased views, her devotion to Aihia’s father made it difficult for her to reach out to Ael, knowing the tumultuous waters between her child and her husband. “What of you?” Aihia changed the subject, “I’m sure your parents must be proud of your accomplishments as an engineer.”
