T’Pon’s journey was an unusual one for a Starfleet officer. Having earned two master’s degrees, one in forensic chemistry and one in law, she was decidedly overqualified to join a regular crew. Having declined an offer from the Vulcan Academy of Science to become a researcher in forensic science was another unusual thing about her.

Why did she want to join the regular fleet?

Simple. She was one of those few Vulcans that could not tolerate regularity. Oh believe me, she was logical as hell, just assertively logical. She wanted the opportunity to logic in many places and do a lot of it.

She was originally commissioned as a security officer. Her investigative skill mixed with Vulcan telepathy made her rise quickly to the rank of CoS of her ship. Command has noticed her skill, and made her a junior investigator in JAG.

She rose even quicker through those ranks, first serving as a detective at the Starfleet Academy’s security detail and second as a Starfleet MP at the Embassy of Vulcan. Her connections managed to get her a commander’s rank on the USS Dauntless. She was very well-connected indeed, given the VAS’ constant and endless begging to have her join them.

Having arrived on the USS Dauntless, she was told to meet with the senior staff at the Captain’s office. She was eager to meet a Romulan, as she was interested to know what would drive her cousins to join Starfleet.

Having entered through the air lock, she walked to the Captain’s office and rang the chime.

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

“Captain, your species are a people of risk. Can’t you see the opportunity here?” A man pleaded with a sturdy woman, who sat back in her chair, gazing skeptically across her desk at the officer making greater a fool of himself than an ally.

“Ensign. I understand your drive for this project,” Aihia began, tapping her fingers leisurely against the tabletop surface, “But I am not willing to risk my ship–and especially not my crew–on a ‘hunch.’”

“But, si–.” He was cut off by the chime. Turning her chin from the younger man, she knit her eyebrows together in a subtle fashion. Was there a meeting she had missed? It seemed all but likely. Perhaps it was Saunders with news of the Admiral? She doubted it, considering their situation.

“Ensign Scorpio, we can discuss this at a later date.” She gestured towards the door, “Come back to me when you have worked out the mathematics behind your experiment. I want to be one hundred percent certain that it will not endanger anyone aboard this ship. Dismissed.”

“Aye, sir.” Resignation laced his voice as he stepped back from her desk. A long glance was thrown her way, but she trusted the Ensign was well aware of its impotence on her position. Watching as he slunk away, Aihia rose to her feet, pressing her fingers against the bridge of her nose. In need of caffeine, the young Captain made her way to the replicator, trusting the officer standing on the other side would show themself in. “Tea?” She inquired, he baritone voice booming despite her back to the officer.

“That would be very much appreciated, Captain. I am quite in need of heated refreshment,” the Commander said, as she entered the room.
“Commander T’Pon, Judge Advocate General’s Corps and newly-appointed Chief Legal and Investigative Officer of the USS Dauntless. Pleased to make your acquaintance ma’am,” she added while extending one arm to received tea and the other to shake Aihia’s hand.

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

“Of course,” Aihia returned, “hopefully you do not mind lemon-ginger tea.” A few moments passed as she replicated two mugs of steaming ginger tea, a hint of honey caressing the air. “I have been awaiting your arrival, Commander.” She set one of the mugs down, offering the other to T’Pon. In a quick, forceful motion, she shook her extended hand. Although her appearance begged to say she was Vulcan, the force of her handshake was an indication of her Romulan background.

“I am Captain Ael Aihia; welcome to the Dauntless.” She gestured or T’Pon to take a seat.

Aihia, CO
