“You didn’t answer my question, ma’am. Is something wrong?” His voice seemed sympathetic, but his gaze was conflicted. He didn’t do emotion well, his eyes often giving away his thoughts before he could say anything to veto them.

Lt. Fitzgerald

“Nothing wrong, lieutenant. Continue with the tour. My private thoughts are exactly that… private.”

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

Fitzgerald sighed, and let it be. “As I’m sure you’ve been on a Starfleet installation before, our engineering bay is unremarkable. Dauntless is a primarily war-based ship, thus the most intriguing parts of her engineering are her warp core and nacelles.” He gestured to the main reactor, which sat centre stage.

Heather stood frustrated and left the first officer she saw in charge while she was gone. “Tell Cmdr T’Pon I stepped out for a moment, but I’d like to speak to her when I return,” Heather told the officer, she turned to look for Cmdr T’Pon and Fitzgerald before she left. She wasn’t worried about the JAG officer for she felt the woman could take care of herself. But the background check she was doing was getting to be too vague it became the Chief of Security should be able to help her complete the background check and learn more about this Lt. Fitzgerald. there was just something about him that seemed off. Heather trusted her instincts.

Heather Argeneau, CE

“Of course, Lieutenant.”” A young woman replied from where she’d been analysing scan readings.

Lt. Fitzgerald and NE

T’Pon would look around the engine room for a chance to get away from Lt Fitzgerald so as to call the CE. Seems she would have to wait.

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

An engineer walked up to Cmdr T’Pon, “Excuse me sir, but the Chief needed to step out for a moment and wished me to let you know that she would be back later.” The engineer said before going back to work.

Engineering NE
(Heather Argeneau, CE)

“Thank you, engineer. Tell her that I have a suspicion about this Fitzgerald character.”

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

The NE Engineer looked to Fitzgerald who wasn’t far from them and gave a nod to the JAG officer before heading back to work.

Engineering NE
(Heather Argeneau, CE)

As Heather entered Main Engineering again a NE Engineer came up to Heather to inform her that the JAG Officer needed to talk to her. so Heather lead the Chief of Security over to the Jag officer and the Analyst who was giving T’Pon her tour.

Heather Argeneau, CE

K’Vexx followed Argeneau, deciding for the time being to observe the situation, and listen and look for everything that seemed out of place.

As T’Pon noticed Argeneau and the CoS approach her, she’d make eye contact to the CE and made a motion as if flicking her eyes side ways, as if saying “Talk to me over there”.

After doing so, she’d tell this Lieutenant Fitzgerald to wait a moment while she went to join Argeneau and the CoS.

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

Heather moved off to the side with the security chief and the Jag Officer, but she didn’t take her eyes off of Fitzgerald. She wondered what the Cmdr had to say.

Heather Argeneau, CE

“A moment, Lieutenant Fitzgerald. I need to speak with the chief engineer and chief of the security. Please wait. I want to continue our tour!”

T’Pon was an adept liar. She did not want to continue the tour. Her fine-tuned Vulcan bulls*** detector knew something was off. As she swallowed her tongue somewhat from lying (she was Vulcan; Vulcans hate lying), she moved over to LTJG Argeneau and the CoS. Once out of Fitzgerald’s ear shot, she began speaking softly to the pair.

“Do you sense something off about this Fitzgerald character? It’s not normal that a top-quality ensign is passed over by an officer that outranks the chief engineer. This screams bad intentions.”

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

“Indeed,” the Klingon security chief responded, then added, “What do we know about him that isn’t in the personnel files?”

-Lt. K’Vexx, CoS

“He seems eager and willing to give me a tour of the ship despite having only been here less than a month. Any engineering bosun could’ve given me that treatment better. He seems to have a VERY good understanding of a ship he’s never been on. Something seems very fishy here.”

After a short pause, the commander would turn her eyes to the CoS.

“I don’t believe we have met. Commander T’Pon, Starfleet Judge Advocate General’s Corps.”

The Vulcan would give a live long and prosper sign to the Klingon department head.

Commander T’Pon, JAG

K’Vexx returned the salute rather clumsily, and responded in kind. “Lieutenant K’Vexx, Chief of Security. It is rather unusual that he would know that much about a ship he’s never been on. He would have had to study the technical logs for months or have some sort of insider knowledge.”

-Lt. K’Vexx, CoS

”…and that is precisely why I have a very close eye on him. Along that, a perfectly qualified ensign was passed over by an officer (Fitzgerald in this case) who outranks the madam chief engineer here. That is grossly irregular. This is very atypical and the only reason he might be here is to do some scouting… for someone or some group. Does anyone know who gave him the assignment on this ship? That might be an insight as to how he possibly could’ve gotten on here.”

Pause.

“I have an idea. K’Vexx should follow me to the forensics section of the ship and we shall do some research on Fitzgerald. The madam chief engineer should stay very near to the subject Fitzgerald and constantly observe him, reporting anything unusual via commlink. Does that sound good to both of you?”

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

“From what I heard, Fitzgerald came aboard with the still missing Ambassador,” Heather said in a low voice that only the two officers with her would hear. She had been listening to them talk and keeping her eyes on Fitzgerald. “I will leave that choice up to the Security chief if he thinks that is a good way to go. You could always take Fitzgerald with you if you think he’s going to slip away.” Heather said mostly to the Chief of Security despite her eyes still on Fitzgerald. The officer seemed to be scanning the area to see if there was an escape for him or not.

Heather Argeneau, CE

“You fail to understand my plan, madam chief engineer. I want him out of my sight largely because I want to test whether or not he’s a plant. Keeping him in my sight would ruin that intention. If you don’t want to do that, I can have the lieutenant here have one of his security crewmen to tail him, or I could dispatch one of my investigators to shadow him in various ways.”

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

Heather frowned, “Fine, you can do whatever kind of plan you think will work. but if anything happens to my engineering bay I’ll hold you personally responsible. But we will do it your way, I’d like to see how it plays out.” Heather told the Jag officer with an arched eyebrow that mimicked a Vulcan brow raise.
