Heather had returned to Engineering after getting her quick bite to eat. Her eyes followed Fitzgerald everywhere he went. She didn’t miss one step he made. She wasn’t so far away that she couldn’t focus and read his thoughts if she so chose, but that would alert him to someone doing just that. Instead, she had a PaDD in hand and was making out her report for engineering while watching the man she didn’t trust anywhere near the Warp core at the moment. but keep an eye on him she would.

Heather Argeneau, CE

In Heather’s vigilance, a comm came through from Cargo Bay 4:

=^=Aihia to Engineering, shut down all computer systems related to the Transporters and Shuttlebay.=^=

Captain Aihia, CO

Heather stood making her way over to the console she keyed in her code shutting down all power to the transporters and locking down access to the shuttle bay. =^= Engineering to Aihia, done. =^= She looked around as the power levels dropped in the transporter control as well as the shuttle bay. Though, honestly, Heather was surprised this call came into Engineering, didn’t Operations normally cover the distribution of power to every system and department?

Heather Argeneau, Ce

=^=Copy that, Lieutenant.=^=

Fitzgerald rose his attention from the panel he’d been observing, his unnerving gaze settling on Heather. Dammit. He thought to himself, biting the inside of his cheek. Setting the device down, he brushed off his uniform. “Why have we disabled our transport and shuttle bay systems, Lieutenant?” He asked upon approach. “We should be arriving at the Bethrisian system soon, and I was under the impression we would be rendezvousing with the USS Calypso upon arrival. Don’t we require those systems to transport?”

Lt. Fitzgerald

Heather looked at Fitzgerald. “We do, but I have had orders to shut down there is a wrinkle in the line somewhere and we need to do a full diagnostic on those systems to be sure they aren’t affected. You wouldn’t want anything to go wrong once we’ve to rendezvous with the USS Calypso or after entering the Bethrisian system would you?” She asked in an innocent two as if all they were doing was running a quick diagnostic on the systems to be sure that they were in proper working order. Using her PADD as if she was studying the systems she sent a message to the Captain, the Security Chief, and the Jag officer that Fitzgerald was questioning the disabling of transporters and shuttle bay systems, as well as at the same time starting the highest level diagnostic on the disabled systems so Fitzgerald could not doubt her word.

Message:

Fitzgerald is asking questions as to why we’ve disabled the transporters and the shuttle bay systems, he is obviously keeping a close eye on what we were doing, He set a device down, one of my officers has already picked it up when he approached me to question the systems being disabled.

End Message:

Heather’s eyes never left Fitzgeralds nor did she give away anything on her face that would indicate they were looking into his background and character. While she watched Fitzgerald she was confident that one of her Ensigns had already walked off with the device that Fitzgerald had been working on.

Heather Argeneau, CE

“As far as I’m aware, there is nothing wrong with either of those systems.” He pointed out. “As per mandatory scanning, I checked into both this morning and there didn’t appear to be any abnormalities in their programming.”

He wasn’t positive what she was suggesting by the scans, but made a dull note to keep an eye on Engineering’s proceedings for the rest of the day.

“I don’t see why they would require another diagnostic screening, but I trust your opinion.” He offered a smile, somewhat paternal in nature. “Do you need an extra hand down there? I don’t mean to sound conceited, but systems are kind of my thing.”

Lt. Fitzgerald

A message appeared on her PaDD seconds later:

Duly noted, Lieutenant. I’m sure JAG will be all over that PaDD. To avoid skepticism, make sure the Ensign copies the data to a separate PaDD and returns the current to Fitzgerald. People like him don’t believe things just ‘disappear.’ I’ve no doubt in you but tread cautiously, Argeneau.

Captn. Aihia, CO

“Actually Lt Fitzgerald I’d like you to stay in the main Engineering,” Heather said handing the PaDD she’d received the message on to the very Ensign that had picked up Fitzgerald’s PaDD with the message from the Captain and knew that the Ensign would do as instructed. “There is something I actually need your help with, but it is not the diagnostic that is being handled. What I need you to do is stay here and because I need to go to the holodeck. Senior staff has been called to the holodeck.” Heather said with a smile of tolerance. She turned to leave stopping to talk to a Lieutenant.

“I want you in charge of Engineering Lieutenant Michaels, Keep an eye on Lieutenant Fitzgerald, do not let him out of your line of sight, and don’t let him anywhere near the Diagnostics,” Heather told the Lieutenant in a voice only he would hear so that Fitzgerald wouldn’t.

“Of course Chief,” Michael’s said with a nod and continued to work he was working on the Diagnostics for the Chief after all.
