1000hrs. Monday, August 9th, 2393.

It was an unremarkable morning, not dissimilar to most of Dauntless’ downdays–which came once in a great while. The ship, unbusied by the dramatics of its passengers, pursued its course in serenity. Her calm was almost unsettling. There were no brawls to break up, no murders to investigate–not even the lowly crewman to reprimand for showing up drunk, and potentially in love.

“Ensign,” Aihia swiveled in her chair to face a young Yeoman, who’d been organizing senior staff schedules and files. “Send out a communique to all department heads,” she began, “have them relieve their positions to their senior-most Junior Officer and report to Holodeck 1 at 1030hrs.”

“For what reason, Captain?” She asked, curiosity piqued. “Do they need to bring anything with them?”

“That is for them to find out, Miss Kait.” A smirk taunted the corners of Aihia’s lips. She was not a subtle woman, but she felt the need to surprise her crew. After all, it was seldom anything was given blatantly around these parts. “As for supplies? All they will require is their brains.”

“Aye, sir.” Kait wasn’t positive what Ael had in mind, but she had come to a point where she refrained from asking. Most times it was better to keep herself in the dark than to ponder the morals behind Aihia’s actions. They often crossed into the grey area.

Seconds later, a message had been sent out to ever department head aboard the Dauntless. It read as follows:

*Attention Senior Staff, *

Please relieve your positions to your senior-most JO, or department deputy, and have your skeleton crew report to the CIC. Afterward, proceed to Holodeck one, where you will be given further orders.

See you there!

Yeoman Kait.

The message was cryptic and offered few hints as to what the senior staff were to expect. What were they to say? It was never an easy day aboard the Dauntless.

Cptn. Aihia, CO

Max had just caught the tail end of the communication as he walked back into the CIC with two mugs, walking back over to the chair that was empty next to the Captain. “Sounds like you’re planning something interesting.” Max inflected his sentence with some interest to show that he was curious to hear more about what was going on. It had turned out to be a fairly dull morning over all, which isn’t bad in most cases. He gave a small nod of respect as he offered the mug he carried in his right hand. The slight steam coming off the cup lightly crisped the air with a faint scent of ginger. “Anything I should worry about?” He lightly mused considering the Captain’s stance on being prepared for anything, he already started wondering what this could entail.

“Is that coffee I smell?” Aihia grinned, gratefully taking the mug. If their day got any slower, she was afraid she might doze off in boredom. Ael wasn’t great at sitting idle, even when it was warranted. It was a wonder she had survived this far in Starfleet. “I am always planning something, Number One.” She glanced over the lip of her mug, her smirk hidden in all but her eyes. “Surely you know that by now.” Setting the mug down, her expression grew solemn. “There is nothing to be concerned about, per se. Although, I suspect many of our colleagues won’t be pleased.”

“Indeed, with a little something extra for fragrance and flavor. A combination I’ve been playing with lately, hopefully it meets your approval?” He sat down taking a sip of the same in his own mug, but not before giving a slow inhale through is nose to enjoy the aroma. “Don’t worry, I’m getting used to the planning.” He chuckled lightly as he took another sip and setting it down a bit after she had. He kept his hand over the mug, enjoying the warmth it provided. “As with everyone, there are times to be pleased for events such as shore leave, but others that take a more significant approach to duty that might not be so pleasing. This investigation for example. It almost feels like a standstill and doesn’t quite sit right with me, but alas, it must be done.” He crossed his leg and scanned the projections in the CIC for any new information that might have popped up while he was gone before he looked over his shoulder towards the counterpart he served under. “Would it be rude to ask what you’re currently planning? Might be able to find a way to allow it to disseminate better amongst those not be pleased about it.

OOC: All department heads, including JAG and Marine are welcome to join this sim. ;D – Trin

Heather did not like being forced to take her eyes off of Fitzgerald. but she had little choice in the matter when it came to a call for all Senior Staff. So she left her most trusted officer behind with strict orders to keep an eye on Fitzgerald and to keep him away from the warp core or she would bust him down to cleaning the anti-matter waste receptacles. Once she was sure that Engineering was in good hands she made sure her skeleton crew was on his way to the CIC with a frown she wondered what Aihia was up to before making her way to Holodeck 1. Heather had to admit, despite her reluctance to take her eyes off of Fitzgerald she was curious as to what was being planned by their very capable and mastermind of a CO.

Heather Argeneau, CE

Just as T’Pon had waltzed out of the ship’s JAG apparatus, she received the Captain’s call to go to Holodeck One. T’Pon wondered for a minute if the captain was joking or something; they were in the middle of a very sensitive investigation and doing a holodeck simulation was a horrible idea. But orders were orders, and T’Pon immediately changed course to Holodeck One. K’Vexx, who likely heard what was ordered, would follow as well she assumed.

In walking to the holodeck complex, she decided to issue some messages.

First, the captain…

=^= Captain, this is commander T’Pon speaking. I am on my way to the holodeck. My forensics team will be headed to the engineering lab to continue the investigation into Fitzgerald. As much as I appreciate your orders, this is a sensitive investigation and they need to get to work asap. =^=

After finishing, T’Pon ordered her troops around.

“Alright, highest ranking among you. Who’s that?”

An Andorian woman lifted her hand.

“Name and rank,” T’Pon barked.

“Anlia. Lieutenant Commander. I’m your deputy JAG,” the Andorian woman responded.

“Send all our people down to the engineering lab to begin the investigation. If the captain countermans my order, go to the CIC.”

All the forensics officers nodded in unison and this as told.

Next, the engineering ensign. T’Pon assumed Argeneau was headed to the same place she was, so she addressed her replacement.

=^= Attention engineering officers assigned to Fitzgerald. You have forensics team headed to meet you. If the captain countermans, expect no one. T’Pon out =^=

After she was done, T’Pon motioned for K’Vexx to follow her. They’d head for the holodeck.

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

K’Vexx followed T’Pon out of the JAG office, then wondered aloud, “Holodeck? Are we creating a simulation of the murder?”

“ That’s just perfect timing.” Crystal muttered to snowflake as she left her office she quickly found her second in command a young Lt by the name of jarvis. “ you are in charge wail I away if there anything you can’t handle give me a call.” She said

“ yes Ma’ma Jarvis said and turned back to his work.

Crystal left with snowflake and headed to the indicated holodeck. Snowflake followed closely behind her.

In the Science Labs Esther leaned back in her office chair and groaned out loud.

“Are ye alri’ ma’am,” A nearby NE asked startling from his work, his hand going up to tap his comm badge =^= NE Burchess to Sickbay- =^= He stopped as Esther slapped his hand away. “I’m not dying,” she snapped “Or hurt or injured. I don’t need sickbay.”

NE Burchess flushed, “Ahhh, righ sorry ma’am” =^= Belay tha’ the Chief’s fine now, =^= Esther flinched, knowing she’d probably been a touch hard on the over-eagar Ensign, “It’s been a long day,” she said by way of apology, “Go tell NE Jetson that she’s in charge. I have to meet the Captain on the holodeck,”

=^=....=^= There was a grumble overheard across the wire. =^=Comm us when you have a real problem. Sickbay, out.=^=

NE Burchess nodded quickly, “Yes ma’am,” He rushed out, leaving Esther to herself. The Lieutenant sighed, rubbing at her eyes, hoping she looked somewhat awake. She contemplated a coffee but she didn’t really like the stuff the way her father and sister did. With another sigh she exited the Science Labs.

“I don’t see any evidence anywhere. I don’t know what happened or how it happened.”
Lt. Cmdr. Saunders
Chief of Tactical

“I’m going to run a level 3 scan.”
Lt. Cmdr. Saunders
Chief of Tactical

The scan would take a while to complete, so Saunders began to double check the sensors.

Ael rose an eyebrow at Bill, “Commander, scans won’t be necessary. This has nothing to do with our current investigation.”

Lieutenant K’Vexx arrived at Holodeck 1 as ordered. He was nothing if not prompt and on time. “Captain,” he said with a nod of greeting, then waited.

-Lt. K’Vexx, CoS

“Lieutenant,” Ael nodded. “Thank you for joining us.”

Heather was wondering why she left Engineering for this, there were far too many bodies for her level of comfort and was starting to look towards the door to see if she could escape without being noticed.

Heather Argeneau, CE

T’Pon, being the assiduous, by-the-book Vulcan that she was, arrived behind the chief engineer just as the time they were expected at was about to arrive.

“Hello, Heather! How’re you?” T’Pon said, loud enough so all the other officers could hear.

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

Snowflake walked towards Commander T’Pon he turned his head sideways and started at her. “ crystal watched the cat approach the commander she was looking for the commander’s reaction.

“ hello I’m crystal, you must be Commander T’pon? We have not had the chance to meat I’m the Marine’s CO and this is Snowflake” she said with a smile.
Crystal Marine CO

“Hello there Major!” T’Pon said with an absolutely uncharacteristic level of chirpiness for a Vulcan. “Oh what an adorable cat! Tell me, do you know why we’re being summoned? I’m in the middle of a highly sensitive investigation.”

Cmdr T’Pon, JAG

Esther leaned against the wall of the room watching it all unfold. Her eyes made contact with Heathers, over the shoulders of the other officers, and she gave her a friendly nod. She felt sorry for the CE who gave off the impression she wasn’t a big fan of crowds.

Lt. Prinz
CSO

K’Vexx kept silent watch, waiting for a threat that he wasn’t sure would come…

-Lt. K’Vexx, CoS

OOC: Sorry for the delay on this guys! Trin and I are still getting some of the details of this sim set up, thanks for the patience on it! (Though a good majority of it will still be a mystery since it seems I’ll be participating as well lol

-Mike

OOC: Thank you for waiting so patiently! Let’s get this party started.

IC:

“Ahem,” Ael cleared her throat. “I’m sure you’re all wondering why I’ve gathered you in the middle of a pertinent investigation,” she surveyed them all, “I understand you many believe this poor timing. However, we are in a stalemate at the moment. There has been no progress and no setbacks. In such a case, your junior officers are more than capable of handling the tasks previously delegated to them for the next few hours.”

“In the meantime, I have prepared a special simulation for you each.” She folded her arms over her chest. “As you know, the Dauntless is a battlecruiser first, transport vessel second. In the light of our current predicament, we must be prepared for all possibilities which includes hostile confrontation by whatever organization or person is responsible for these murders.” She didn’t give them time to speak. “This simulation, which you will each enter shortly, is intended to sharpen your battle skills. Both tactical and practical. I expect all of my officers, regardless of their field, to be adept in handling high-stress battle situations. I don’t care if you’re an engineer or a doctor, your ability to contribute towards battle is pivotal to our success or failure.”

“Understood captain.” Saunders (the Tactical chief) said. “As your tactical chief, I volunteer first. I’m ready for anything that is put to me.”
Lt. Cmdr. Saunders
Chief of Tactical

“There will be another twists to this.” Her gaze locked onto her XO, “Commander Saunders. You are the executive officer of this vessel, outranked by a single member of this crew. I know you are capable of command, and damn good at it too. However, even the most qualified can use touching up.” She tilted her chin. “For this simulation, you will be Captain of the Dauntless. For the rest of you,” she turned back to the crew, “that means every order goes through Saunders. He is your leader, I expect you all to treat him as such…” She shook her head, “But I have little concern about respect.”

“Computer.” She ordered the holodeck, “activate sim: Aihia-BaT-2.” She stepped aside as the holodeck doors hissed open to reveal an exact replica of the Dauntless’ CIC. “Department heads..” She smirked. “Battle stations.”

Captn. Aihia

“What kind of simulation will this entail? How far will it go?” Saunders asked the captain.
Lt. Cmdr. Saunders
Chief of Tactical

‘So this is what she had planned huh ..? As usual, definitely did not see that coming..’ He mused in his mind as he smirked outwardly wondering how this entire situation just came about. He already knew she wasn’t much to go into the details and he knew for sure he would be walking into a den of punishment. Both for this simulated scenario and what would happen should they fail. He shook his head slightly. No. Nope. Not a chance. He wasn’t going to let that happen. He was already trying to think about what she pieced together and if they’d even have time to collect themselves. It wouldn’t be unusual for her to throw everyone to the wolves to force everyone to cooperate under stress, but he had some hope that this wouldn’t be the case. “Aye Captain, I know we’ll do our best not to disappoint you or this ship.” With a small nod, he stepped past the breach of the holodeck doors into the simulated CIC. Though he was sure that everyone would still be asking questions the sooner he could get into the sim, the sooner he’d be able to start processing what was going on in her simulation. Even though it was slight, he wanted to take every advantage he could while the others would stagger in.
