Yuri had just finished wiping down the surfaces in medical with his team when he heard the announcement. “Computer, begin monthly program Yuri-M once my bio signature returns to medical .” The task was a simple one, but due to it’s simplicity is what made it take a lot of time. What the computer would do is it’s monthy maintenance of decrypting, defragmenting, and encrypting the medical database again. During the whole process the database gets locked and cannot be accessed for any reason for security. It was the only real thing Yuri could thing up to trip up and waste the inspectors time as the Captain had asked us to do. Everything else was pretty much in order. Everything sanitized, instruments in their proper place, and level 3 containment fields in operating condition, providing if power was available for it of course. Unfortunately, the shipyard was old and didn’t have an emergency medical hologram installed. Several upgrades would be needed in order to retrofit even the early forms of the EMH. Holo-emitters would need to be installed throughout the shipyard instead of just medical, the lounge, engineering, and the holosuite. An upgrade to the database would need to be done as well in order to have enough resources and memory to hold the program as well. Yuri wasn’t quite one for dealing with admiralty, but he respected the leadership and understood the reason for inspections at least from the medical perspective. He couldn’t really say for any other department. “Make sure everyone is ready for Inspector General. Keep log PaDD at front desk for sick call visitors.”

Yuri went to the back where his office was to grab his dress coat that he prepared earlier and put it on, taking a quick look at himself in a small mirror he had in his office. He still wasn’t quite used to seeing the Lieutenant rank on it, but he wanted to ensure that he didn’t let the Captain down for the inspection or his orders to make this experience as unpleasant for the Inspector as possible. With a nod he headed to the Control Center and arrived a few moments later. “Good Morning Captain, Commander, Chief, Mr. Fer … Fur .. Feral-lack. My apologies, very hard to pronounce name. I hope you do not take offense.” Yuri’s expression was slightly worried. He’d been trying to, here and there get a better pronunciation for it, but his accent pretty much stopped it from sounding correct every time he tried to say his name.

Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)

Ferl’lak let out a small chuckle. “Quite alright my dear fellow. I don’t know if you realised but I can’t say your last name. That’s why I call you Yuri instead of Mr. Or Miss insert last name here, like I do the rest.”

Ferl’lak

Stout looked around. “So who are we missing? Ops and Science? Well, let’s hope they show soon. Mr. Balashov, would you kindly convey to our incoming guests that they may be delayed?” and then he turned and looked at directly at Yuri. “You do have that reason ready, correct, Doctor? Timing is a matter of value here.”

Stout, CO

Yuri nodded, “Of course Captain, according to medical scans .. unidentified contagion has been found on vessel, most likely nothing serious, but we would like additional time to ensure safety of our minimal Serenity crew.” Yuri smiled slightly, felt kind of exhilarating to lie a bit. Though he of course had the crew as the number one priority. They couldn’t afford anyone to be sick, so wasting some time on extra precautions even though nothing existed .. was totally okay with him. “Could take about 30 minutes to an hour max. I can also stall on medical inspection as well.”

Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)

Stout looked at him blankly for a minute and then shrugged. “Well, you’re the Doc… Doc.” and he looked at the comms officer. “Hail the Interror.” and a few seconds later the comm officer said “Go ahead, Captain.”

Without standing, Stout looked up at the screen as the face of the Inspector General turned to look at him. Before he could speak, Stout said “USS Interror, Serenity Station. Captain Michael Stout commanding. Our scans have picked up a unknown contagion. Our Medical staff has asked me to hold your docking until we can verify the authenticity. As I am sure you are aware, Rear Admiral, regulations are quite specific regarding this. So I am ordering Traffic Control to hold you at your present position until we clear this up. I’m sure you understand. Shouldn’t be more than an hour or two.” and he gave the signal to cut the comms.

“Ok, kids. We have a couple of hours. What’s next on the agenda?” he asked the assembled staff.

Stout, CO

“How much time are we looking to stall here, Captain?” Omni inquired, raising an eyebrow over at the others. If the ‘medical procedure’ was going to take an hour, max, that gave them more than enough time to get things done. “Perhaps it would be best for departments to ensure they can organize whatever they can, to at least make it seem presentable. Of course, we don’t have many JOs at the moment, but I doubt the Inspector would be too please with finding things still lying around as we endeavour to figure details out, around here.” She knew it wouldn’t be of top priority, but in any inspection, first impressions were everything.

Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XO

“About an hour, XO. I think that should get the good Admiral’s dander up just enough…”

Woods gave the required greeting back to Yuri and the others as he watched the screen and the approach before he offered, “You know. I know a guy who knows a guy who can cause a power line fault in docking control.”

He shrugged at that, apparently feeling no further explanation was required.

CE Woods

“Let’s hold off on that as a parting gift, Mr. Woods. I imagine by the time we are through, an expeditious departure will be the most desired thing they will want. And I wouldn’t want them to think we got everything on line just because they were here…”

Stout, CO

Just then a wicked smile crossed Stout’s features. Tapping his commbadge, he said =/\= Command to Lounge. Ms. Notta, come to the Control Center immediately.” and he looked at the assembled crew. “Ok. I want each of you to focus solely on the tasks we have previously discussed. We are gonna have assistance in the interim ‘delays’ with a nice addition to the upcoming festivities.”

Stout, CO

=/\= On my way Captain. =/\= came, the response over the comms. It did not take long for Elizabeth to make good on her response. When Elizabeth stepped off the lift at the command center and looked around, “You called?” She asked with a wicked little smile on her full lips and a bottle of Romulan Ale in hand.

Elizabeth Notta, B&L Owner

Stout spun in his chair and said “Perfect timing. You get to play with us while the I.G. is here. You are gonna be the new ‘Morale Officer’. Make sure our people are happy, and make sure they are taken care of behind the scenes. Make sure those bastards - ” and he jerked a thumb at the now shut off screen ” - get just enough to keep them from being pissed, but not enough to make ‘em happy.” and he then looked at the rest of the team.

“Everyone else, this is how we play it: We are short staffed, short on equipment, and trying our damnedest to get this place up to speed. Which is all true. But we are really going to sell it, understand? I want them to know every step of the way that they are a huge inconvenience and that they would be much better served, sticking their little noses up someone else’s keister for a while. We are going to appear professional, competent, and wholly overworked. In fact, if you need a spare pair of hands for anything, grab whoever they have inspecting your areas and put ‘em to work. Tell them ‘Before you start ticking boxes, hand me that hydrospanner will you?’ and make them earn their inspection time. And if you get any pushback from their Lordships, just look at ‘em and say ‘Well, look at whatever you want, then. But if you have a question, it’ll have to wait till I’m done.’ … and make ‘em wait. That’s the one thing these folks hate more than anything. Questions?”

Stout, CO

“So as Moral officer, does that mean I get to offer everyone a drink of Romulan Ale? or should I tuck this away for later, chief?” She smirked at the captain, holding up the bottle with a slight smile.

Elizabeth Notta, B&L Owner

Stout glowered at her and said “Not only is that illegal, but’s a bad idea right before the I.G. arrives.” and he looked at the crew and said “Save that for when they leave.”

Stout, CO

“Alright chief I’ll save it for a celebration.” She winked and with a few hand gestures, like that the bottle disappeared reminding Stout that she had several tricks up her sleeves.

Elizabeth Notta, B&L Owner.

Stout simply glared slightly and then said “Mr. Balashov, where are we with the ‘Medical Scans’? Mr. Grimes, Mr. Woods. Are you set?”

Stout, CO

“Outer hull is currently being scanned Captain. Completion in approximately 25 minutes, I can stall a bit more for second pass if needed. Most people helping in Medical are only volunteers from stragglers that were on station prior to arrival. Very helpful, but I was thinking to dismiss them prior to Inspector boarding? Would be pain for me, but more pain for Inspector. Also re-scheduled medical database to undergo monthly maintenance once back inside medical facility.” Yuri glanced over the logs as they came in to be sure that nothing was detected to be sure that nothing real was brought aboard.

Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)

“Stall ‘em for 35, Doctor. And go ahead and dismiss your ‘aides’. They can help out Ms. Notta, if she needs a few hands to make the commotion in the lounge more believable. That work for you, Junior?”

Stout, CO

“Oh Aye chief, that would work just fine I’ll see that those poor souls get the moral boost they need.” She grinned almost wickedly.

Notta.

He was standing there listening the entire time. “I though we already went over things that work for the issue we are having on board, which should delay for at least 50 minutes.” Sherlock broke just a little bit of a smile. Moving over to his station and not sitting, just leaning over the stand in’s shoulder to tap on the console. “Captain, it appears that there is an issue with the inertial dampeners and the artificial gravity plates on deck four, where the shuttle port is. Do not know how that happened but I will get my junior to work on fixing it.” Fat chance since he was the one whom orcestrated it to start with.

  • Lieutenant Sherlock Grimes (COps)

Ferl’lak listened quietly and when it was time he spoke up. “I have everything ready on my end Captain. What do you want me to do in the meantime?”
Ferl’lak

Stout looked at the Ferengi and said “Well, Mr. Ferl’lak… Why don’t you, the XO, and myself get ready to meet the arrivals?” and he looked around at the rest of the crew. “Get ready to meet in the Conference room once we have them docked. And follow my lead when we get in there. Best way to deal with inspectors is to answer only the question they asked, no more. So if they ask you what time it is, you say ‘Yes, I do.’ and drop it. We all clear?” he asked as he stood up.

Stout, CO

“As you wish Captain. I’ll follow. “

“All clear, Capt!” The voice of Polaris rang out. “Going to give ‘em hell and make everything look worse off than it actually is.” With that, a small beep was heard and Scott rolled his eyes. “Don’t… plug in any coffee makers.”

Pol & Woods

Ferl’lak

Stout looked back at Woods and said “I swear to whatever you hold holy, Chief. If she messes with my coffee, I will chuck the core into the nearest star.”

Stout, CO

Scott held up his hands, “She knows your office is the sanctum sanctorum and would never do anything in there that would jeopardize your happiness.” After ensuring that he wouldn’t be replacing a core on the station, another set back he really didn’t need, he took a step back towards the door, “Besides it was just a warning regarding the circuit breakers.”

Woods, CE

Ferl’lak just waited for the response from the CO.

Ferl’lak

Stout looked at Ferl’lak and said “Mr. Ferl’lak, let’s you and I get ready to meet our ‘guests’ at the docking hatch. Can you arrange a shift change in the personnel cleaning the hot vessel in, say… thirty minutes? I mean, we wouldn’t want to risk the Interror crew and inspectors to the possibility of being irradiated, so I guess they’ll have to wait for the hatch to open for a few minutes.” and he stood and looked around. “Ok, everyone. This is it. Showtime.” and he walked out the door, not looking to see whether or not Ferl’lak followed.

Stout, CO

Ferl’lak smiled. “Very good sir. I’m right behind you. ” While he was walking he Pushed his com badge. =^= Ferl’lak to Gentry. Arrange a shift change on the Andromeda in thirty minutes. Give them the rest of their shift off…and if they ask…yes they will still get pa… pai.....paid.=^=
“I still can’t say the Fr…fre..free word all that well. I hope you’re happy Captain. I believe that this little set back will set you back two more days of work and 67,000 Latinum to me in pay, fees and equipment. “

Ferl’lak

Sherlock gave a glance between the two of them a moment as he was waiting for any acknowledgement. Taking the silence from his notification as, alright, good. Giving a nod to Stout.

  • Lieutenant Sherlock Grimes (COps)

At that time, the comms lit up. =/\= Serenity Station, this is the USS Interror. We demand to speak with your Commanding Officer and Chief MEdical Officer as soon as we disembark. This delay is unacceptable! =/\= and the comms cut off.

Inspector General

“Gee…such a pleasant person…” Sherlock shook his head and relayed the message to Stout. “Guess..who’s coming to dinner…”

Lieutenant Sherlock Grimes (COps)

Ferl’lak looked confused. “Why wouldn’t the Admiral follow protocol? Does he think that he is above such things? I’ve seen an old Earth movie called Alien and lots of people died because someone didn’t follow the decontamination procedure correctly.”

Ferl’lak

Stout grinned. “Saw that one. Something to hope for, I guess.” and he made his way out of the Command Center and towards the docking port. As he walked out he aid over his shoulder “All Senior Staff. Conference Room in forty five.”

Stout, CO
